System size, energy and pseudorapidity dependence of directed and elliptic flow at RHIC

PHOBOS measurements of elliptic flow are presented as a function of pseudorapidity, centrality, transverse momentum, energy and nuclear species. The elliptic flow in Cu-Cu is surprisingly large, particularly for the most central events. After scaling out the geometry through the use of an alternative form of eccentricity, called the participant eccentricity, which accounts for nucleon position fluctuations in the colliding nuclei, the relative magnitude of the elliptic flow in the Cu-Cu system is qualitatively similar to that measured in the Au-Au system.Comment: Presented at the 18th International Conference on Ultra-Relativistic Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions in Budapest, Hungary, Aug. 4-9, 200

Towards validation of a new computerised test of goal neglect: preliminary evidence from clinical and neuroimaging pilot studies

Objective: Goal neglect is a significant problem following brain injury, and is a target for rehabilitation. It is not yet known how neural activation might change to reflect rehabilitation gains. We developed a computerised multiple elements test (CMET), suitable for use in neuroimaging paradigms. Design: Pilot correlational study and event-related fMRI study. Methods: In Study 1, 18 adults with acquired brain injury were assessed using the CMET, other tests of goal neglect (Hotel Test; Modified Six Elements Test) and tests of reasoning. In Study 2, 12 healthy adults underwent fMRI, during which the CMET was administered under two conditions: self-generated switching and experimenter-prompted switching. Results: Among the clinical sample, CMET performance was positively correlated with both the Hotel Test (r = 0.675, p = 0.003) and the Modified Six Elements Test (r = 0.568, p = 0.014), but not with other clinical or demographic measures. In the healthy sample, fMRI demonstrated significant activation in rostro-lateral prefrontal cortex in the self-generated condition compared with the prompted condition (peak 40, 44, 4; ZE = 4.25, p(FWEcorr) = 0.026). Conclusions: These pilot studies provide preliminary evidence towards the validation of the CMET as a measure of goal neglect. Future studies will aim to further establish its psychometric properties, and determine optimum pre- and post-rehabilitation fMRI paradigms

: Conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the conjungtiva.Incidence in Indonesia reached 73% of total visits in ophthalmlogy polyclinic in 2009. One cause of conjunctivitis is bacterial infection. In Manado, no data on the pattern of the bacteria that cause conjunctivitis that can cause errors in the selection of antimicrobials for patient. The aim this research is to assess the pattern of aerobic bacteria in patients with conjunctivitis which can contribute directly in improving the quality of treatment of conjunctivitis, especially bacterial conjunctivitis. This research use methods with cross sectional descriptive study through a conjunctival swab bacterial culture results in patients with conjunctivitis at Community Eye Health Center in Manado. The samples in this study were patients with a diagnosis of bacterial conjunctivitis with ongoing infection and has not undergone treatment with antimicrobials. Distribution of the study sample by sex showed 12 people (40%) men and 18 (60%) women. The youngest age in this study 26 years old and the oldest 77 years old. 7 sample results showed no growth on culture process, 12 samples contained gram-positive bacteria, 1 sample gram-negative bacteria and 10 samples of a mixture of gram positive and negative bacteria. Non-haemolytic Streptococcus was found in 11 samples (36.67%), Bacillus subtilis on 7 samples (23.33%), Proteus spp in 6 samples (20%), Staphylococcus albus in 5 samples (16.67%), Diplococcus grams negative in 4 samples (13.33%), Lactobacillus spp in 3 samples (10%) and Pseudomonas aeuruginosa 1 sample (3.33%). The conclusion of this research on the most infectious conjunctivitis caused by non-haemolytic Streptococcus and most common in the age group above 60 years
