MEIC Design Progress
This paper will report the recent progress in the conceptual design of MEIC, a high luminosity medium energy polarized ring-ring electron-ion collider at Jefferson lab. The topics and achievements that will be covered are design of the ion large booster and the ERL-circulator-ring-based electron cooling facility, optimization of chromatic corrections and dynamic aperture studies, schemes and tracking simulations of lepton and ion polarization in the figure-8 collider ring, and the beam-beam and electron cooling simulations. A proposal of a test facility for the MEIC electron cooler will also be discussed
Identification of 45 New Neutron-Rich Isotopes Produced by In-Flight Fission of a 238U Beam at 345 MeV/nucleon
A search for new isotopes using in-flight fission of a 345 MeV/nucleon 238U
beam has been carried out at the RI Beam Factory at the RIKEN Nishina Center.
Fission fragments were analyzed and identified by using the superconducting
in-flight separator BigRIPS. We observed 45 new neutron-rich isotopes: 71Mn,
73,74Fe, 76Co, 79Ni, 81,82Cu, 84,85Zn, 87Ga, 90Ge, 95Se, 98Br, 101Kr, 103Rb,
106,107Sr, 108,109Y, 111,112Zr, 114,115Nb, 115,116,117Mo, 119,120Tc,
121,122,123,124Ru, 123,124,125,126Rh, 127,128Pd, 133Cd, 138Sn, 140Sb, 143Te,
145I, 148Xe, and 152Ba
Gluons and the quark sea at high energies:distributions, polarization, tomography
This report is based on a ten-week program on "Gluons and the quark sea at high-energies", which took place at the Institute for Nuclear Theory in Seattle in Fall 2010. The principal aim of the program was to develop and sharpen the science case for an Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), a facility that will be able to collide electrons and positrons with polarized protons and with light to heavy nuclei at high energies, offering unprecedented possibilities for in-depth studies of quantum chromodynamics. This report is organized around four major themes: i) the spin and flavor structure of the proton, ii) three-dimensional structure of nucleons and nuclei in momentum and configuration space, iii) QCD matter in nuclei, and iv) Electroweak physics and the search for physics beyond the Standard Model. Beginning with an executive summary, the report contains tables of key measurements, chapter overviews for each of the major scientific themes, and detailed individual contributions on various aspects of the scientific opportunities presented by an EIC

An Accumulator/Pre-Booster for the Medium-Energy Electron Ion Collider at Jlab
Future nuclear physics facilities such as the proposed electron ion collider (MEIC) will need to achieve record high luminosities in order to maximize discovery potential. Among the necessary ingredients is the ability to generate, accumulate , accelerate, and store high current ion beams from protons to lead ions. One of the main components of this ion accelerator complex for MEIC chain is the accumulator that also doubles as a pre-booster, which takes 200 MeV protons from a superconducting linear accelerator, accumulates on the order of 1A beam, and boosts its energy to 3GeV, before extraction to the next accelerator in the chain, the large booster. This paper describes its design concepts, and summarizes some preliminary results, including linear optics, space charge dynamics, and spin polarization resonance analysis
Acute Gastroenteritis Surveillance through the National Outbreak Reporting System, United States
Implemented in 2009, the National Outbreak Reporting System provides surveillance for acute gastroenteritis outbreaks in the United States resulting from any transmission mode. Data from the first 2 years of surveillance highlight the predominant role of norovirus. The pathogen-specific transmission pathways and exposure settings identified can help inform prevention efforts
