THE ROLE OF OLED DEVICES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF SMART CITIES

    Get PDF
In the course of the last few years, interest in the development of smart cities and progress of smart buildings has increased significantly. This development has been significantly increased due to the development of new technologies, innovative functional materials, electronic components and other products. At the same time, it is imperative to use those products that contribute to the preservation of the environment, and above all to energy saving. Thus, new technologies are becoming increasingly attractive, such as the one based on OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology, which is used in the production of mobile phones, tablet computers, other devices, as well as light sources. Although this technology has been generally known for more than half a century, commercial application of OLED components was not possible due to insufficient efficiency of products based on it. However, the continuous improvement of characteristics and efficiency enabled their more significant application in the past few years. The aim of this work is to provide adequate information about the possibilities of applying some innovative technologies in the planning and development of smart cities. Especially, becoming more familiar with the basic properties and application possibilities of OLED devices can lead to the life quality improvements of city spaces users

Geographical information systems are in use in business application for a long time, but their usage in agriculture is well known, too. This article shows the main structure of geographical information systems for decision support (spatial decision support systems) as advanced GIS technologies made for solving complex, semistructured or nonstructured problems and their application in the agriculture sector. GIS-based technologies has been reviewed through several examples of their use in agriculture and special respect has been given to the precision farming concept, giving short insight into SSToolbox software (SST). The last part of the article is dedicate to the possible usage of GIS-based technologies in the Serbian agriculture

Process of optimization of retail trade spatial development with application of locational-alocational models

This article gives a simple and brief scope of structure and usage of location-allocation models in territory planning of retail network, trying to show the main shortage of some given models and the primary direction of their future improving. We give an inspection of theirs main usage and give an explanation of basic factors that models take in consideration during the process of demand allocation. Location-allocation models are an important segment of development of spatial retail network optimization process. Their future improvement is going towards their approximation and integration with spatial-interaction models. In this way, much better methodology of planning and directing spatial development of trade general. Methodology which we have used in this research paper is based on the literature and research projects in the area. Using this methodology in analyzing parts of Serbian territory through usage of location-allocation models, showed the need for creating special software for calculating matrix with recursions. Considering the fact that the integration of location-allocation models with GIS still didn't occur, all the results acquired during the calculation of methaformula has been brought into ArcGIS 9.2 software and presented as maps

Labor Market Analisys in the Context of Regional Development – South and East Serbia Region Case

Serbia has huge socio-economic disparities between regions as well as between other levels of local administrative units. Regional differences could be analyzed from different aspects: demographic characteristics, human resources, education, economic structure, infrastructure, poverty, unemployment, and wages. This paper explores the labor market characteristics through regional disparities framework. The identified problems will be the base for future development politics creators to resolve regional differences more efficiently and for international and regional trans-border cooperation

Sustainable rural development and cross-border cooperation

The concept of sustainable rural development comprises three aspects - social, economical and ecological. They are supposed to act in synergy, but, at the same time, these aspects are supposed to be competitive. Agriculture, as a traditional activity of rural economy, contributes to the sustainable development of rural areas only if there is an adequate resources management. If not, there will be a significant degradation of rural environment. These are the reasons why sustainable agriculture development is emphasized since it maximizes productivity and minimizes negative effects on nature and human resources. In this context, one should observe the connection between agriculture and tourism existing in the EU, where the application of sustainable agricultural development concept produces external effects connected to biodiversity protection and environment in rural areas. These become a good foundation for the development of rural and ecotourism. EU enlargement induced diversification of support programmes that EU gives to the candidate countries, as well as to those who are just entering the process of stabilization and association to the EU. Through cross-border cooperation projects, many goals can be accomplished, among which aspiration for promotion of sustainable economical and social development in border regions is one of the leading. Knowing that these regions are usually passive and underdeveloped, the projects of cross-border cooperation could induce development of those activities in local economy, which could bring better living conditions and economic prosperity on the one hand, and protection of environment on the other. Examples of this kind of projects in Serbia can usually be found in rural and ecotourism development

The Geographic Information System (GIS) in secondary education in Serbia

    No full text
This study investigates the application of new educational technologies in geography classes. The research involved 126 students from vocational secondary schools in Serbia taking geography as a compulsory subject. We developed and applied a questionnaire for this research. The results indicate that out of several ICTs available, the majority of students are familiar with the GIS, but only one third can be said to have theoretical knowledge and practical skills for its effective implementation. Students who use the GIS stated that it is a useful tool that contributes greatly to the development of cartographic skills, which is a major advantage given the problem-oriented learning approach, and that it is highly interactive, systematic and precise. These findings suggest that the GIS and other ICTs are still not fully used and that teacher presentation remains the dominant method, which includes less innovative didactic aids. The importance of the application of the GIS in teaching and suggestions for enhancing teacher motivation to apply this technology are discussed in the conclusion

The paper deals with regional disparities in Serbia, considering demographic andeconomic regional differences. The analyses of those disparities are placed in the contextof the EU and of neighboring countries. The authors used statistical instrumentsto show the extent of Serbian regional disparities, as well as maps to visualise thesedifferences. The results are used to develop a rough outline of possible solutions tosuch regional inequalities in Serbia, considering existing Serbian and EU developmentdocuments

    FDI in Serbia

After the dissolution of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) in the early 1990s, the Republic of Serbia found itself in an unprecedented social, political, and economic situation. Facing a significant delay in the transition process in comparison with other Central and Eastern European (CEE) states, Serbian governments since 2001 have opted for a model of economic development based on attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). This strategic commitment has led to complex and controversial effects on Serbia’s economy. On the one hand, FDI inflows benefited the local economy by increasing its international market competitiveness, contributing to a decrease in unemployment, and enhancing technology transfer. On the other hand, FDI is related to some negative economic trends such as expansion of labor-intensive jobs and an increasing dependency on unpredictable inflows of foreign capital. The aim of this chapter is to offer insights into the empirical literature on FDI to Serbia in the context of Serbia’s historical development and to explore the spatiality and influences of contemporary inflows with a special focus on prospects and suggestions for Serbia’s economic trajectory over the next 25 years. Conceptually, this text is based on Dunning’s eclectic approach to FDI by focusing upon the origins, location, and internalization of foreign capital in the country
