Energy Level Quasi-Crossings: Accidental Degeneracies or Signature of Quantum Chaos?
In the field of quantum chaos, the study of energy levels plays an important
role. The aim of this review paper is to critically discuss some of the main
contributions regarding the connection between classical dynamics,
semi-classical quantization and spectral statistics of energy levels. In
particular, we analyze in detail degeneracies and quasi-crossings in the
eigenvalues of quantum Hamiltonians which are classically non-integrable.

Ultrafast Magnetization Dynamics in Diluted Magnetic Semiconductors
We present a dynamical model that successfully explains the observed time
evolution of the magnetization in diluted magnetic semiconductor quantum wells
after weak laser excitation. Based on the pseudo-fermion formalism and a second
order many-particle expansion of the exact p-d exchange interaction, our
approach goes beyond the usual mean-field approximation. It includes both the
sub-picosecond demagnetization dynamics and the slower relaxation processes
which restore the initial ferromagnetic order in a nanosecond time scale. In
agreement with experimental results, our numerical simulations show that,
depending on the value of the initial lattice temperature, a subsequent
enhancement of the total magnetization may be observed within a time scale of
few hundreds of picoseconds.Comment: Submitted to PR
Pathological Behavior in the Spectral Statistics of the Asymmetric Rotor Model
The aim of this work is to study the spectral statistics of the asymmetric
rotor model (triaxial rigid rotator). The asymmetric top is classically
integrable and, according to the Berry-Tabor theory, its spectral statistics
should be Poissonian. Surprisingly, our numerical results show that the nearest
neighbor spacing distribution and the spectral rigidity do
not follow Poisson statistics. In particular, shows a sharp peak at
while for small values of follows the Poissonian
predictions and asymptotically it shows large fluctuations around its mean
value. Finally, we analyze the information entropy, which shows a dissolution
of quantum numbers by breaking the axial symmetry of the rigid rotator.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures, to be published in Phys. Rev.
Invariant Manifolds and Collective Coordinates
We introduce suitable coordinate systems for interacting many-body systems
with invariant manifolds. These are Cartesian in coordinate and momentum space
and chosen such that several components are identically zero for motion on the
invariant manifold. In this sense these coordinates are collective. We make a
connection to Zickendraht's collective coordinates and present certain
configurations of few-body systems where rotations and vibrations decouple from
single-particle motion. These configurations do not depend on details of the
interaction.Comment: 15 pages, 2 EPS-figures, uses psfig.st
Two-Body Random Ensembles: From Nuclear Spectra to Random Polynomials
The two-body random ensemble (TBRE) for a many-body bosonic theory is mapped
to a problem of random polynomials on the unit interval. In this way one can
understand the predominance of 0+ ground states, and analytic expressions can
be derived for distributions of lowest eigenvalues, energy gaps, density of
states and so forth. Recently studied nuclear spectroscopic properties are
addressed.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures. To appear in Physical Review Letter
The observation of long-range three-body Coloumb effects in the decay of 16Ne
The interaction of an =57.6-MeV Ne beam with a Be target was used
to populate levels in Ne following neutron knockout reactions. The decay
of Ne states into the three-body O++ continuum was observed
in the High Resolution Array (HiRA). For the first time for a 2p emitter,
correlations between the momenta of the three decay products were measured with
sufficient resolution and statistics to allow for an unambiguous demonstration
of their dependence on the long-range nature of the Coulomb interaction.
Contrary to previous experiments, the intrinsic decay width of the Ne
ground state was found to be narrow (~keV), consistent with
theoretical estimates.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
Nyquist method for Wigner-Poisson quantum plasmas
By means of the Nyquist method, we investigate the linear stability of
electrostatic waves in homogeneous equilibria of quantum plasmas described by
the Wigner-Poisson system. We show that, unlike the classical Vlasov-Poisson
system, the Wigner-Poisson case does not necessarily possess a Penrose
functional determining its linear stability properties. The Nyquist method is
then applied to a two-stream distribution, for which we obtain an exact,
necessary and sufficient condition for linear stability, as well as to a
bump-in-tail equilibrium.Comment: 6 figure
Spin induced nonlinearities in the electron MHD regime
We consider the influence of the electron spin on the nonlinear propagation
of whistler waves. For this purpose a recently developed electron two-fluid
model, where the spin up- and down populations are treated as different fluids,
is adapted to the electron MHD regime. We then derive a nonlinear Schrodinger
equation for whistler waves, and compare the coefficients of nonlinearity with
and without spin effects. The relative importance of spin effects depend on the
plasma density and temperature as well as the external magnetic field strength
and the wave frequency. The significance of our results to various plasmas are
discussed.Comment: 5 page
Influence of cryorolling on properties of L-PBF 316l stainless steel tested at 298K and 77K
The goal of the present work is to evaluate mechanical properties and to analyse the microstructure of 316L stainless steel produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) follow by rolling with different thickness reduction under ambient and cryogenic conditions. The samples before rolling were heat treated. The static tensile test was realized at ambient and cryogenic (77K) conditions. The L-PBF powder metal production technology approved that is a key technology in the additive manufacturing (AM) area, especially for metal powder materials. Mechanical properties tested at 298K and 77K shows that the application of various thermo-deformation rolling conditions increases of strength properties. Achieved mechanical properties are comparable to conventional bulk materials. The strength properties after the rolling under ambient and cryogenic conditions were significantly increased
Investigations of three, four, and five-particle exit channels of levels in light nuclei created using a 9C beam
The interactions of a E/A=70-MeV 9C beam with a Be target was used to
populate levels in Be, B, and C isotopes which undergo decay into many-particle
exit channels. The decay products were detected in the HiRA array and the level
energies were identified from their invariant mass. Correlations between the
decay products were examined to deduce the nature of the decays, specifically
to what extent all the fragments were created in one prompt step or whether the
disintegration proceeded in a sequential fashion through long-lived
intermediate states. In the latter case, information on the spin of the level
was also obtained. Of particular interest is the 5-body decay of the 8C ground
state which was found to disintegrate in two steps of two-proton decay passing
through the 6Beg.s. intermediate state. The isobaric analog of 8Cg.s. in 8B was
also found to undergo two-proton decay to the isobaric analog of 6Beg.s. in
6Li. A 9.69-MeV state in 10C was found to undergo prompt 4-body decay to the
2p+2alpha exit channel. The two protons were found to have a strong
enhancementin the diproton region and the relative energies of all four p-alpha
pairs were consistent with the 5Lig.s. resonance
