Pregnancy in immigrant women
Objective: We wanted to study how foreign women face pregnancy and childbirth in a society quite different from their own. Methods: In 2004 we studied 328 pregnant women at the Department of Gynaecology at the "General Hospital Umberto 1" in Rome. Information on patients' personal lives and experiences was collected. Results: Women were classified into six (6) groups based on nationality, race, religion and culture. Conclusions: Arabian women had the most natural childbirths. African women had a longer duration of gestation. Women from Eastern Europe underwent frequent tests and examinations, but had the highest chance of having preterm births. Chinese women did not usually undergo many examinations and were able to tolerate pain during childbirth quite well
Active and Passive Brain-Computer Interfaces Integrated with Extended Reality for Applications in Health 4.0
This paper presents the integration of extended reality (XR) with brain-computer interfaces (BCI) to open up new possibilities in the health 4.0 framework. Such integrated systems are here investigated with respect to an active and a passive BCI paradigm. Regarding the active BCI, the XR part consists of providing visual and vibrotactile feedbacks to help the user during motor imagery tasks. Therefore, XR aims to enhance the neurofeedback by enhancing the user engagement. Meanwhile, in the passive BCI, user engagement monitoring allows the adaptivity of a XR-based rehabilitation game for children.
Preliminary results suggest that the XR neurofeedback helps the BCI users to carry on motor imagery tasks with up to 84% classification accuracy, and that the level of emotional and cognitive engagement can be detected with an accuracy greater than 75%
Geometrical bounds on irreversibility in open quantum systems
Clausius inequality has deep implications for reversibility and the arrow of
time. Quantum theory is able to extend this result for closed systems by
inspecting the trajectory of the density matrix on its manifold. Here we show
that this approach can provide an upper and lower bound to the irreversible
entropy production for open quantum systems as well. These provide insights on
the thermodynamics of the information erasure. Limits of the applicability of
our bounds are discussed, and demonstrated in a quantum photonic simulator
Bridging thermodynamics and metrology in non-equilibrium Quantum Thermometry
Single-qubit thermometry presents the simplest tool to measure the
temperature of thermal baths with reduced invasivity. At thermal equilibrium,
the temperature uncertainty is linked to the heat capacity of the qubit,
however the best precision is achieved outside equilibrium condition. Here, we
discuss a way to generalize this relation in a non-equilibrium regime, taking
into account purely quantum effects such as coherence. We support our findings
with an experimental photonic simulation.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figure
Can self application of zinc sulphate and usnic acid cream improve the outcome of vulvoperineal HPV infection?
CLINICAL OBSERVATIONS ON THE USE OF A NEW INTIMATE CLEANSER IN DAILY PROTECTION
The female intimate hygiene sector has seen the
production of a new cleanser based on natural extracts
with antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and freshening
properties for women of child-bearing potential. The
formulation with a pH of 4.5 is made up of Thymus
vulgaris with antimicrobial activity, Calendula officinalis
with a soothing action, a slow-release menthol
derivative (menthyl ethylamido oxalate) with a
freshening, non-abrasive action and xanthan gum
which, thanks to its physicochemical properties and its
hydrophilic colloid nature, prolongs the adhesion of the
product in situ.
The objective of this study was to compare the effects
of use of this new intimate cleanser (SF) in daily
protection compared with the usual cleanser used by
the women
