    Comparison of Diagnostic Performance of Three-Dimensional Positron Emission Mammography versus Whole Body Positron Emission Tomography in Breast Cancer

    Objective. To compare the diagnostic performance of three-dimensional (3D) positron emission mammography (PEM) versus whole body positron emission tomography (WBPET) for breast cancer. Methods. A total of 410 women with normal breast or benign or highly suspicious malignant tumors were randomized at 1 : 1 ratio to undergo 3D-PEM followed by WBPET or WBPET followed by 3D-PEM. Lumpectomy or mastectomy was performed on eligible participants after the scanning. Results. The sensitivity and specificity of 3D-PEM were 92.8% and 54.5%, respectively. WBPET showed a sensitivity of 95.7% and specificity of 56.8%. After exclusion of the patients with lesions beyond the detecting range of the 3D-PEM instrument, 3D-PEM showed higher sensitivity than WBPET (97.0% versus 95.5%, P = 0.913), particularly for small lesions (<1 cm) (72.0% versus 60.0%, P = 0.685). Conclusions. The 3D-PEM appears more sensitive to small lesions than WBPET but may fail to detect lesions that are beyond the detecting range.     Comparison between the influence of roxadustat and recombinant human erythropoietin treatment on blood pressure and cardio-cerebrovascular complications in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis

    IntroductionRoxadustat treatment in PD patients is equivalent to ESAs in increasing hemoglobin (Hb). But blood pressure, cardiovascular parameters, cardio-cerebrovascular complications and prognosis in the two groups before and after treatment has not been sufficiently discussed.MethodsSixty PD patients who were treated with roxadustat for renal anemia in our PD center recruited from June 2019 to April 2020 as roxadustat group. PD patients treated with rHuEPO were enrolled at a 1:1 ratio as rHuEPO group using the method of propensity score matching. Hb, blood pressure, cardiovascular parameters, cardio-cerebrovascular complications and prognosis were compared between the two group. All patients were followed up for at least 24 months.ResultsThere were no significant differences in baseline clinical data or laboratory values between roxadustat group and rHuEPO group. After 24 months of follow-up, there was no significant difference in Hb levels (p &gt; 0.05). There were no significant changes in blood pressure, or the incidence of nocturnal hypertension before and after treatment in roxadustat group (p &gt; 0.05), while blood pressure significantly increased in rHuEPO group after treatment (p &lt; 0.05). Compared with roxadustat group after follow-up, rHuEPO group had a higher incidence of hypertension, the levels of cardiovascular parameters were worse and cardio-cerebrovascular complications had a higher incidence (p &lt; 0.05). Cox regression analysis showed age, systolic blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, and rHuEPO use before baseline were risk factors for cardio-cerebrovascular complications in PD patients, while treatment with roxadustat was a protective factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular complications.ConclusionCompared with rHuEPO, roxadustat had less influence on blood pressure or cardiovascular parameters, and it was associated with a lower risk of cardio-cerebrovascular complications in patients undergoing PD. Roxadustat has a cardio-cerebrovascular protective advantage in PD patients with renal anemia

    Robust estimation of bacterial cell count from optical density

    Optical density (OD) is widely used to estimate the density of cells in liquid culture, but cannot be compared between instruments without a standardized calibration protocol and is challenging to relate to actual cell count. We address this with an interlaboratory study comparing three simple, low-cost, and highly accessible OD calibration protocols across 244 laboratories, applied to eight strains of constitutive GFP-expressing E. coli. Based on our results, we recommend calibrating OD to estimated cell count using serial dilution of silica microspheres, which produces highly precise calibration (95.5% of residuals &lt;1.2-fold), is easily assessed for quality control, also assesses instrument effective linear range, and can be combined with fluorescence calibration to obtain units of Molecules of Equivalent Fluorescein (MEFL) per cell, allowing direct comparison and data fusion with flow cytometry measurements: in our study, fluorescence per cell measurements showed only a 1.07-fold mean difference between plate reader and flow cytometry data

    Molecular cloning, functional characterization and expression analysis of P65 subunit in response to GCRV infection in rare minnow (Gobiocypris rarus)

    P65, the all-important subunit of the transcription factor NF-kappa B, plays an important role in the regulation of immune response. In this study, the cDNA of P65 subunit of rare minnow Gobiocypris rarus (GrP65) was cloned, and its expression patterns and functional role in rare minnow were investigated. The GrP65cDNA encodes a polypeptide of 573 amino acids, containing a well-conserved Rel-homology domain (RHD). The amino acid sequence analysis showed that GrP65 shared 81% and 69% identity to the grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) and human (Homo sapiens) orthologous, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that GrP65 clustered with homologues from other teleosts. Cellular distribution anallysis demonstrated that GrP65 was located in the cytoplasm and nucleus. Quantitative real-time PCR analysis showed that GrP65 was ubiquitously expressed in all examined tissues, but especially highly in liver. Temporal expression analysis in vivo showed that the expression levels of GrP65 were significantly up-regulated in liver in response to GCRV infection, which suggested that GrP65 might play a crucial role in recognition and responses to GCRV infection in fish. In addition, GrP65 activated several interferon (IFN) promoters and induced the expression of downstream IFN-stimulated genes (ISGs). Furthermore, overexpression of P65 remarkably decreased the GCRV proliferation, while knockdown of P65 obtained opposite effects.     High-Resolution Daily Emission Inventory of Biomass Burning in the Amur-Heilong River Basin Based on MODIS Fire Radiative Energy Data

    Open biomass burning (OBB) is one of the major factors that influences the regional climate environment and surface vegetation landscape, and it significantly affects the regional carbon cycle process and atmospheric environment. The Amur-Heilong River Basin (ARB) is a fire-prone region in high-latitude boreal forests. In this study, we used fire radiative power (FRP) obtained from a Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) to estimate OBB emissions from the ARB and established a long-term series (2003&ndash;2020) with a high spatiotemporal resolution and a daily 1 km emissions inventory. The results show that the annual average emissions of CO2, CO, CH4, NMHCs, NOx, NH3, SO2, BC, OC, PM2.5, and PM10 were estimated to be 153.57, 6.16, 0.21, 0.78, 0.28, 0.08, 0.06, 0.04, 0.39, 0.66, and 0.85 Tg/a, respectively. Taking CO2 as an example, grassland fire in the dry season (mainly in April and October) was the largest contributor (87.18 Tg/a), accounting for 56.77% of the total CO2 emissions from the ARB, followed by forest fire prone to occur in April&ndash;May (56.53 Tg/a, 36.81%) and crop fire during harvest season (9.86 Tg/a, 6.42%). Among the three countries in the ARB, Russia released the most total CO2 emissions (2227.04 Tg), much higher than those of China (338.41 Tg) and Mongolia (198.83 Tg). The major fire types were crop fires (40.73%) on the Chinese side and grass fires on the Russian (56.67%) and Mongolian (97.56%) sides. Over the past decade, OBB CO2 emissions have trended downward (&minus;0.79 Tg/a) but crop burning has increased significantly (+0.81 Tg/a). Up to 83.7% of crop fires occurred in China (2010&ndash;2020), with a concentrated and southward trend. Comparisons with the Global Fire Emission Dataset (GFED4.1s), the Fire INventory from NCAR (FINNv2.2), and the Global Fire Assimilation System (GFASv1.2) showed that our newly established emission inventory was in good agreement with these three datasets in the ARB. However, this multi-year, daily 1 km high-resolution emission inventory has the advantages of detecting more small fire emissions that were overlooked by coarse-grid datasets. The methods described here can be used as an effective means of estimating greenhouse gas and aerosol emissions from biomass combustion

    Mental health service use and its associated factors among nurses in China: a cross-sectional survey

    Background To facilitate mental health service planning for nurses, data on the patterns of mental health service use (MHSU) among nurses are needed. However, MHSU among Chinese nurses has seldom been studied. Our study aimed to explore the rate of MHSU among Chinese nurses and to identify the factors associated with MHSU. Methods A self-designed anonymous questionnaire was used in this study. MHSU was assessed by the question, “Have you ever used any kind of mental health services, such as mental health outpatient services or psychotherapies, when you felt that your health was suffering due to stress, insomnia, or other reasons?” The answer to the question was binary (yes or no). Sleep quality, burnout, and depressive symptoms were assessed using the Chinese version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index , the Chinese version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey and the two-item Patient Health Questionnaire, respectively. Chi-square tests and binary logistic regression were used for univariate and multivariate analyses. Results A total of 10.94% (301/2750) of the nurses reported MHSU. 10.25% (282/2750) of the nurses had poor sleep quality, burnout and depressive symptoms, and only 26.95% of these nurses reported MHSU. Very poor sleep quality (OR 9.36, 95% CI [5.38-16.29]), mid-level professional title (OR 1.48, 95% CI [1.13-1.93]) and depressive symptoms (OR 1.66, 95% CI [1.28-2.13]) were independent factors associated with MHSU. Conclusions Most of the nurses have experienced burnout, poor sleep quality or depressive symptoms and the MHSU rate among them was low. Interventions to improve the mental health of nurses and to promote the use of mental health services are needed

    Chemical Inhibition Method to Synthesize Highly Crystalline Prussian Blue Analogs for Sodium-Ion Battery Cathodes

    The nucleation rate plays a critical role in the synthesis of Prussian blue analogs. Rapid precipitation may lead to a large number of vacancies and a large amount of interstitial water in the material, resulting in poor electrochemical performance in batteries. Hence, sodium citrate is used to compete with [Fe­(CN)<sub>6</sub>]<sup>4–</sup> to slow down the coordination rates of Ni<sup>2+</sup> and Mn<sup>2+</sup> ions with ferrous cyanide ions. The feasibility of the experiment is also confirmed by theoretical analysis. Benefiting from stable crystal structure and the removal of interstitial water, the as-prepared Na<sub>2</sub>Ni<sub><i>x</i></sub>Mn<sub><i>y</i></sub>Fe­(CN)<sub>6</sub> sample exhibits a high reversible capacity of 150 mA h g<sup>–1</sup>. In addition, a high rate performance of 77 mA h g<sup>–1</sup> is achieved at a current density of 1600 mA g<sup>–1</sup>. Most noteworthy, the Coulombic efficiency and specific capacity gradually increase in the first few cycles, which can be ascribed to the formation of a passivation layer on the surface of the electrode. Continuous testing in an electrolyte solution of 1 M NaPF<sub>6</sub> dissolved in sulfone reveals that the presence of a passivation film is very important for the stability of the electrode

    Exchange field enhanced upper critical field of the superconductivity in compressed antiferromagnetic EuTe2

    We report high pressure studies on the C-type antiferromagnetic semiconductor EuTe2 up to 36.0 GPa. A structural transition from the I4/mcm to C2/m space group is identified at ~16 GPa. Superconductivity is discovered above ~5 GPa in both the I4/mcm and C2/m space groups. In the low-pressure phase (< 16 GPa), the antiferromagnetic transition temperature is enhanced with increasing pressure due to the enhanced magnetic exchange interactions. Magnetoresistance measurements indicate an interplay between the local moments of Eu2+ and the conduction electrons of Te 5p orbits. The upper critical field of the superconductivity is well above the Pauli limit. Across the structural transition to the high-pressure phase (> 16 GPa), EuTe2 becomes nonmagnetic and the superconducting transition temperature evolves smoothly with the upper critical field below the Pauli limit. Therefore, the high upper critical field of EuTe2 in the low-pressure phase is due to the exchange field compensation effect of the Eu magnetic order and the superconductivity in both structures may arise in the framework of the BCS theory.Comment: 11 pages,5 figures with 8 pages supplementar
