Studies concerning the anion ex-change resins catalyzed esterification of epichlorohydrin with organic acids

    Get PDF
The paper studies the esterification of carboxylic acids with epichlorohydrin over two macroporous strong base anion exchange resins with different polymer matrix. For both resins, the influence of reaction parameters (temperature, catalyst loading, molar ratio) on the reaction rate and the yields of the two isomeric esters were investigated

The Project Approach Meta-Project: Inquiry-Based Learning in Undergraduate Early Childhood Teacher Education

This article describes a case study involving the planning, phases, and outcomes of an exploration of the Project Approach led by four teacher candidates as part of an undergraduate early childhood teacher preparation program. Four undergraduate junior-level teacher candidates investigated the phases of the Project Approach during their junior year; this work took place during a 26-week learning module comprised of a seminar and part-time student teaching placement in a preschool setting. The candidates aligned the stages of their investigation with the phases of the Project Approach, which provided a framework complementary to that of action research, within which the candidates directed their own exploration of essential issues of early childhood pedagogy and curriculum. This investigation took place both at the Loyola and at a preschool in which the Project Approach was in use. Candidates assumed the role of the teacher and led actual projects with preschoolers; these served as culminating events for their project. In addition, at the conclusion of the module, candidates planned and hosted a session at which they shared documentation of their learning and outcomes of the investigation for an audience of university faculty and other teacher candidates. Candidates demonstrated an increased understanding of the Project Approach and a greater appreciation for its use with preschoolers. They also identified perceived advantages and challenges of implementing projects in various types of early childhood settings. Candidates exhibited high levels of collaboration with mentor co-teacher educators, and acquired knowledge and skills that informed their roles in guiding preschoolers through project planning and investigation during student teaching

Spectroscopic investigation and chemical fingerprint of Datura innoxia dry biomass

    Get PDF
In this study it is presented the application of spectroscopic methods, such as fluorescence study and attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared analysis for identification and detection of secondary metabolite specially, hyoscine, and organic functional groups from dry biomass of Datura innoxia vegetative organs. The experimental results confirmed the presence of some important classes of secondary metabolites useful in medicine domain, e.g., alkaloids, terpenes, phenolics, sterols, carbohydrates. Regarding fluorescence study, maximum excitation wavelengths for hyoscine were found to be 345 nm (1-butanol and ethanol). Moreover, the results showed the presence of hyoscine in all structural units which is in according with other studies

Histological changes in the vulva and vagina from ovariectomised rats undergoing oestrogen treatment

Background: The purpose of this study was to assess the histological changes occurring in the vagina and vulva in ovariectomised female rats, as well as the response to the administration of injectable oestrogens. Material and methods: We used 30 female Wistar white rats, distributed as follows: group 1 — the control group, group 2 — the operated but untreated rats, and groups 3, 4 and 5 — operated rats, to which oestrogenic treatment was administered (Estradiol, Estradurin, Sintofolin) at a dosage of 0.2 mg/rat/day. After 14 days of treatment, all animals were sacrificed and vaginal and vulvar biopsies were taken from all groups. Results: In group 2, we encountered structural changes of the vaginal mucosa, with severe atrophy and alterations in the thickness of the vagina and vulva. In groups 3, 4 and 5 we found marked hyperplasia of the vaginal and vulvar epithelium, eosinophilic and mast cell infiltration in the chorion. Conclusions: Our study proves that the histopathological changes during anoestrus after administration of oestrogens are cell hyperplasia, thickening of the superficial mucosal layer, eosinophilic and mast cells infiltrations, and chorionic congestion. Furthermore, we demonstrated that Estradiol therapy induces the most evident histological changes when compared to synthetic oestrogens such as Estradurin or Sintofolin.

RUSSIAN POTENTIAL FOR INFLUENCE IN THE ROMANIAN AND GREEK ENERGY SECTOR

    Get PDF
The purpose of the study is to assess the balance between vulnerability and power within the Romanian and Greek energy networks. The study presents visual analytic perspectives on the potential implications of Russian influence in the Romanian and Greek energy sectors; we found no network-analysis–type studies focusing on the energy sector, and we found few studies on Russian influence in the energy sectors of the two countries examined. Specifically, we explore the question, how could Russia exert influence over Romania and Greece through their energy sectors? To answer the question, we conducted phased research. First, we analyzed the energy companies’ social networks and measured the actors’ centrality (measures of indirect influence of power) and brokerage potential (measures path distance between companies within the network). Second, we conducted a geospatial analysis of the gas pipelines infrastructure and energy companies and facilities’ infrastructure to determine the geospatial control of the resources. Third, we conducted a comparative and temporal analysis of energy-related indicators to determine Romania’s and Greece’s degree of dependency on energy resources. This study concludes by identifying three intervention strategies and policy recommendations for each country to counter Russian influence through utilizing energy resources and companies.http://archive.org/details/russianpotential1094561222Major, Army, RomaniaLieutenant, Navy, GreeceApproved for public release; distribution is unlimited
