    As mudanças no contexto econômico e social têm determinado a necessidade de novas estratégias de gestão para as organizações. Na área de serviços, as instituições de Saúde e a Enfermagem têm sofrido o impacto dessas mudanças dentro dos seus processos de trabalho. Buscamos refletir sobre as novas tendências gerenciais e como elas podem influenciar a organização do trabalho de Enfermagem nos serviços de Saúde e as ações dos enfermeiros gerentes em estratégias que atendam aos desafios da profissão, num contexto social em transformação. Essas novas tendências têm apontado para a ênfase no desenvolvimento de organizações de aprendizagem, investimento no capital humano, na incorporação de novos conhecimentos e habilidades, buscando uma prática administrativa aberta, flexível e participativa, fundamentada na razão, na criatividade, sensibilidade e intuição.<br>Las modificaciones en el contexto económico y social han determinado la necesidad de nuevas estrategias de gestión para las organizaciones. En el área de servicios, las instituciones de salud y la enfermería han sufrido el impacto de esas modificaciones dentro de sus procesos de trabajo. Buscamos reflexionar sobre las nuevas tendencias gerenciales y sobre la forma como las mismas pueden influenciar en la organización del trabajo de enfermería en servicios de salud y en las acciones de los enfermeros gerentes en estrategias que enfrenten los desafíos de la profesión en un contexto social en transformación. Esas nuevas tendencias han apuntado hacia el énfasis en el desarrollo de organizaciones de aprendizaje, inversión en capital humano, incorporación de nuevos conocimientos y habilidades en la búsqueda de una práctica administrativa abierta, flexible y participativa, fundamentada en la razón, en la creatividad, en la sensibilidad y en la intuición.<br>The changes in the economic and social context have led to the need of new management strategies for organizations. In the area of services, healthcare and nursing organizations have suffered the impact of these changes within their work processes. Our goal was to reflect on the new management trends and how they could influence the nursing work organization in healthcare services and the actions by managing nurses in strategies that meet the challenges of the profession in a changing social context.     Associação entre Síndrome de burnout, uso prejudicial de álcool e tabagismo na Enfermagem nas UTIs de um hospital universitário

    The article aims to determine the presence of burnout syndrome among professionals in the field of Nursing in the Intensive Care Unit in a university hospital and a possible association with consumption of alcohol and tobacco. Participants were 160 nursing professionals from 04 intensive care unit of a university hospital in the period from March 2013 to February 2014. We used a structured questionnaire, plus the smoking history, Maslach Burnout Inventory, Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test, Fagerström Dependence Questionnaire and the measurement of carbon monoxide. We used Fisher’s chi-square or Fisher exact test. Syndrome was found in 34 professionals, most of them female, married and young adults. 18 professionals reported being smokers. 6,4% of Nursing Assistants, 50% Practical Nurses and Nurses 71,4% drank moderate; 5,4% Nursing Assistant and 14,3% Nurses scored default risk drinking and only 01 Practical Nurses had possible alcohol dependence. There was a positive association of the syndrome with smoking in 01 ICU. Final considerations: Hospital Intensive Care services need assistance from the managers of services for the purpose of caring for the health of their caregivers
