Symmetry of anomalous dimension matrices explained
In a previous paper, one of us pointed out that the anomalous dimension
matrices for all physical processes that have been calculated to date are
complex symmetric, if stated in an orthonormal basis. In this paper we prove
this fact and show that it is only true in a subset of all possible orthonormal
bases, but that this subset is the natural one to use for physical
calculations.Comment: 4 page
Stress-testing the VBF approximation in multijet final states
We consider electro-weak Higgs plus three jets production at NLO QCD beyond
strict VBF acceptance cuts. We investigate, for the first time, how accurate
the VBF approximation is in these regions and within perturbative
uncertainties, by a detailed comparison of full and approximate calculations.
We find that a rapidity gap between the tagging jets guarantees a good
approximation, while an invariant mass cut alone is not sufficient, which needs
to be confronted with experimental choices. We also find that a significant
part of the QCD corrections can be attributed to Higgs-Strahlungs-type
topologies.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, add VBSCAN report numbe
Hermitian Young Operators
Starting from conventional Young operators we construct Hermitian operators
which project orthogonally onto irreducible representations of the (special)
unitary group.Comment: 15 page
QCD-supression by Black Hole Production at the LHC
Possible consequences of the production of small black holes at the LHC for
different scenarios with large extra dimensions are investigated. The effects
from black hole production on some standard jet observables are examined,
concentrating on the reduction of the QCD cross section. It is found that black
hole production of partons interacting on a short enough distance indeed seem
to generate a drastic drop in the QCD cross section. However from an
experimental point of view this will in most cases be camouflaged by energetic
radiation from the black holes
Color structure for soft gluon resummation - a general recipe
A strategy for calculating the color structure needed for soft gluon
resummation for processes with any number of colored partons is introduced
using a N_c --> infinity inspired basis. In this basis a general formalism can
be found at the same time as the calculations are simplified.
The advantages are illustrated by recalculating the soft anomalous dimension
matrix for the processes gg --> gg, q\qbar --> q \qbar g and q\qbar --> ggg.Comment: 16 page
Color evolution of 2 -> 3 processes
The color structure needed for resummation of all colored 2 -> 3 processes is
calculated using multiplet inspired s-channel bases. In this way the resulting
matrices, describing the color structure, are guaranteed to obey simplifying
symmetries.Comment: 25 page
Uncertainties on Central Exclusive Scalar Luminosities from the unintegrated gluon distributions
In a previous report we used the Linked Dipole Chain model unintegrated gluon
densities to investigate the uncertainties in the predictions for central
exclusive production of scalars at hadron colliders. Here we expand this
investigation by also looking at other parameterizations of the unintegrated
gluon density, and look in more detail on the behavior of these at small k_T.
We confirm our conclusions that the luminosity function for central exclusive
production is very sensitive to this behavior. However, we also conclude that
the available densities based on the CCFM and LDC evolutions are not
constrained enough to give reliable predictions even for inclusive Higgs
production at the LHC
Stress testing the vector-boson-fusion approximation in multijet final states
We consider electroweak Higgs plus three jets production at NLO QCD beyond strict VBF acceptance cuts. We investigate, for the first time, how accurate the VBF approximation is in these regions and within perturbative uncertainties by a detailed comparison of full and approximate calculations. We find that a rapidity gap between the tagging jets guarantees a good approximation, while an invariant mass cut alone is not sufficient, which needs to be confronted with experimental choices. We also find that a significant part of the QCD corrections can be attributed to Higgs-Strahlungs-type topologies
Soft gluons in Higgs plus two jet production
We investigate the effects of an all order QCD resummation of soft gluon
emissions for Higgs boson production in association with two hard jets. We
consider both the gluon-gluon fusion and weak boson fusion processes and show
how to resum a large part of the leading logarithms in the jet veto scale. Our
resummation improves on previous analyses which also aim to include the effects
of multiple soft gluon radiation. In addition we calculate the interference
between weak boson fusion and gluon-gluon fusion and find that it is small.Comment: 15 pages and 5 figure
