Modified 2D Proca Theory: Revisited Under BRST and (Anti-)Chiral Superfield Formalisms

Within the framework of Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) approach, we discuss mainly the fermionic (i.e. off-shell nilpotent) (anti-)BRST, (anti-)co-BRST and some discrete dual-symmetries of the appropriate Lagrangian densities for a two (1+1)-dimensional (2D) modified Proca (i.e. a massive Abelian 1-form) theory without any interaction with matter fields. One of the novel observations of our present investigation is the existence of some kinds of restrictions in the case of our present St\"{u}ckelberg-modified version of the 2D Proca theory which is not like the standard Curci-Ferrari (CF)-condition of a non-Abelian 1-form gauge theory. Some kinds of similarities and a few differences between them have been pointed out in our present investigation. To establish the sanctity of the above off-shell nilpotent (anti-)BRST and (anti-)co-BRST symmetries, we derive them by using our newly proposed (anti-)chiral superfield formalism where a few specific and appropriate sets of invariant quantities play a decisive role. We express the (anti-)BRST and (anti-)co-BRST conserved charges in terms of the superfields that are obtained after the applications of (anti-)BRST and (anti-)co-BRST invariant restrictions and prove their off-shell nilpotency and absolute anticommutativity properties, too. Finally, we make some comments on (i) the novelty of our restrictions/obstructions, and (ii) the physics behind the negative kinetic term associated with the pseudo-scalar field of our present theory.Comment: LaTeX file, 58 pages, Journal reference give

Geometrical Aspects Of BRST Cohomology In Augmented Superfield Formalism

In the framework of augmented superfield approach, we provide the geometrical origin and interpretation for the nilpotent (anti-)BRST charges, (anti-)co-BRST charges and a non-nilpotent bosonic charge. Together, these local and conserved charges turn out to be responsible for a clear and cogent definition of the Hodge decomposition theorem in the quantum Hilbert space of states. The above charges owe their origin to the de Rham cohomological operators of differential geometry which are found to be at the heart of some of the key concepts associated with the interacting gauge theories. For our present review, we choose the two (1+1)(1 + 1)-dimensional (2D) quantum electrodynamics (QED) as a prototype field theoretical model to derive all the nilpotent symmetries for all the fields present in this interacting gauge theory in the framework of augmented superfield formulation and show that this theory is a {\it unique} example of an interacting gauge theory which provides a tractable field theoretical model for the Hodge theory.Comment: LaTeX file, 25 pages, Ref. Nilpotent Symmetries For Matter Fields In Non-Abelian Gauge Theory: Augmented Superfield Formalism

In the framework of superfield approach to Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) formalism, the derivation of the (anti-)BRST nilpotent symmetries for the matter fields, present in any arbitrary interacting gauge theory, has been a long-standing problem. In our present investigation, the local, covariant, continuous and off-shell nilpotent (anti-)BRST symmetry transformations for the Dirac fields (ψ,ψˉ)(\psi, \bar\psi) are derived in the framework of the augmented superfield formulation where the four (3+1)(3 + 1)-dimensional (4D) interacting non-Abelian gauge theory is considered on the six (4+2)(4 + 2)-dimensional supermanifold parametrized by the four even spacetime coordinates xμx^\mu and a couple of odd elements (θ\theta and θˉ\bar\theta) of the Grassmann algebra. The requirement of the invariance of the matter (super)currents and the horizontality condition on the (super)manifolds leads to the derivation of the nilpotent symmetries for the matter fields as well as the gauge- and the (anti-)ghost fields of the theory in the general scheme of the augmented superfield formalism.Comment: LaTeX file, 16 pages, printing mistakes in the second paragraph of `Introduction' corrected, a footnote added, these modifications submitted as ``erratum'' to IJMPA in the final for

Superfield Approach To Nilpotent Symmetries For QED From A Single Restriction: An Alternative To The Horizontality Condition

We derive together the exact local, covariant, continuous and off-shell nilpotent Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) and anti-BRST symmetry transformations for the U(1) gauge field (A_\mu), the (anti-)ghost fields ((\bar C)C) and the Dirac fields (\psi, \bar\psi) of the Lagrangian density of a four (3 + 1)-dimensional QED by exploiting a single restriction on the six (4, 2)-dimensional supermanifold. A set of four even spacetime coordinates x^\mu (\mu = 0, 1, 2, 3) and two odd Grassmannian variables \theta and \bar\theta parametrize this six dimensional supermanifold. The new gauge invariant restriction on the above supermanifold owes its origin to the (super) covariant derivatives and their intimate relations with the (super) 2-form curvatures (\tilde F^{(2)})F^{(2)} constructed with the help of (super) 1-form gauge connections (\tilde A^{(1)})A^{(1)} and (super) exterior derivatives (\tilde d)d. The results obtained separately by exploiting (i) the horizontality condition, and (ii) one of its consistent extensions, are shown to be a simple consequence of this new single restriction on the above supermanifold. Thus, our present endeavour provides an alternative to (and, in some sense, generalization of) the horizontality condition of the usual superfield formalism applied to the derivation of BRST symmetries.Comment: LaTeX file, 15 pages, journal-versio

Little evidence for entropy and energy excess beyond r500r_{500} - An end to ICM preheating?

    Get PDF
Non-gravitational feedback affects the nature of the intra-cluster medium (ICM). X-ray cooling of the ICM and in situ energy feedback from AGN's and SNe as well as {\it preheating} of the gas at epochs preceding the formation of clusters are proposed mechanisms for such feedback. While cooling and AGN feedbacks are dominant in cluster cores, the signatures of a preheated ICM are expected to be present even at large radii. To estimate the degree of preheating, with minimum confusion from AGN feedback/cooling, we study the excess entropy and non-gravitational energy profiles upto r200r_{200} for a sample of 17 galaxy clusters using joint data sets of {\it Planck} SZ pressure and {\it ROSAT/PSPC} gas density profiles. The canonical value of preheating entropy floor of 300\gtrsim 300 keV cm2^2, needed in order to match cluster scalings, is ruled out at 3σ\approx 3\sigma. We also show that the feedback energy of 1 keV/particle is ruled out at 5.2σ\sigma beyond r500r_{500}. Our analysis takes both non-thermal pressure and clumping into account which can be important in outer regions. Our results based on the direct probe of the ICM in the outermost regions do not support any significant preheating.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, 1 table, Accepted in MNRAS Letter

    Excess entropy and energy feedback from within cluster cores up to r200_{200}

We estimate the "non-gravitational" entropy-injection profiles, ΔK\Delta K, and the resultant energy feedback profiles, ΔE\Delta E, of the intracluster medium for 17 clusters using their Planck SZ and ROSAT X-Ray observations, spanning a large radial range from 0.2r5000.2r_{500} up to r200r_{200}. The feedback profiles are estimated by comparing the observed entropy, at fixed gas mass shells, with theoretical entropy profiles predicted from non-radiative hydrodynamic simulations. We include non-thermal pressure and gas clumping in our analysis. The inclusion of non-thermal pressure and clumping results in changing the estimates for r500r_{500} and r200r_{200} by 10\%-20\%. When clumpiness is not considered it leads to an under-estimation of ΔK300\Delta K\approx300 keV cm2^2 at r500r_{500} and ΔK1100\Delta K\approx1100 keV cm2^2 at r200r_{200}. On the other hand, neglecting non-thermal pressure results in an over-estimation of ΔK100\Delta K\approx 100 keV cm2^2 at r500r_{500} and under-estimation of ΔK450\Delta K\approx450 keV cm2^2 at r200r_{200}. For the estimated feedback energy, we find that ignoring clumping leads to an under-estimation of energy per particle ΔE1\Delta E\approx1 keV at r500r_{500} and ΔE1.5\Delta E\approx1.5 keV at r200r_{200}. Similarly, neglect of the non-thermal pressure results in an over-estimation of ΔE0.5\Delta E\approx0.5 keV at r500r_{500} and under-estimation of ΔE0.25\Delta E\approx0.25 keV at r200r_{200}. We find entropy floor of ΔK300\Delta K\approx300 keV cm2^2 is ruled out at 3σ\approx3\sigma throughout the entire radial range and ΔE1\Delta E\approx1 keV at more than 3σ\sigma beyond r500r_{500}, strongly constraining ICM pre-heating scenarios. We also demonstrate robustness of results w.r.t sample selection, X-Ray analysis procedures, entropy modeling etc.Comment: 17 pages, 15 figures, 5 tables, Accepted in MNRA

HEVC based Mixed-resolution Stereo Video Coding for Low Bitrate Transmission

This paper presents a mixed resolution stereo video coding model for High Efficiency Video Codec (HEVC). The challenging aspects of mixed resolution video coding are enabling the codec to encode frames with different frame resolution/size and using decoded pictures having different frame resolution/size for referencing. These challenges are further enlarged when implemented using HEVC, since the incoming video frames are subdivided into coding tree units. The ingenuity of the proposed codec’s design, is that the information in intermediate frames are down-sampled and yet the frames can retain the original resolution. To enable random access to full resolution decoded frame in the decoded picture buffer as reference frame a downsampled version of the decoded full resolution frame is used. The test video sequences were coded using the proposed codec and standard MV-HEVC. Results show that the proposed codec gives a significantly higher coding performance over the MV- HEVC codec

Noncommutativity In The Mechanics Of A Free Massless Relativistic Particle

We show the existence of a noncommutative spacetime structure in the context of a complete discussion on the underlying spacetime symmetries for the physical system of a free massless relativistic particle. The above spacetime symmetry transformations are discussed for the first-order Lagrangian of the system where the transformations on the coordinates, velocities and momenta play very important roles. We discuss the dynamics of this system in a systematic manner by exploiting the symplectic structures associated with the four dimensional (non-)commutative cotangent (i.e. momentum phase) space corresponding to a two dimensional (non-)commutative configuration (i.e. target) space. A simple connection of the above noncommutativity (NC) is established with the NC associated with the subject of quantum groups where SLq,q1(2)SL_{q,q^{-1}} (2) transformations play a decisive role.Comment: LaTeX file, 19 page

ASSESSMENT OF GENETIC DIVERSITY OF TRIGONELLA FOENUM-GRACEUM L. IN NORTHERN INDIA USING RAPD AND ISSR MARKERS

    Get PDF
Objective: The main aim of this study was to assess genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationships of different varieties of fenugreek (8 varieties and 6 populations) collected from northern India using RAPD (Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA) and ISSR (Inter Simple Sequence Repeat markers). Methods: DNA Samples were analyzed with 400 RAPD and 100 ISSR primers. For statistical analysis data were subjected to UPGMA (Un weighted pair-group method with arithmetic averages), Jaccard's similarity coefficient values were obtained using Similarity for Qualitative Data (SIMQUAL), to find out genetic relationship. This analysis generated dendrogram which was further compared using the Mantel matrix correspondence test (NTSyS-pc version 2.02i) and Principal coordinates analysis. Results: Polymorphism frequency of 42.91% and 55.66% was found in different varieties of fenugreek using RAPD and ISSR markers respectively. Based on the combined data of RAPD+ISSR marker system the maximum similarity index was observed for accessions from Mathura and RMT-143 (0.85) whereas the minimum similarity index was observed for RMT-351 sand RMT-303 (0.26).Conclusion: The investigation has demonstrated that cluster analysis could be profitably used in unravelling the genetic variation within the accessions and the two molecular markers, RAPD and ISSR could be used as effective tools to evaluate genetic diversity and assess genetic relationship in fenugreek.Â
