Phonon-assisted inter-valley scattering determines ultrafast exciton dynamics in MoSe2_2 bilayers

While valleys (energy extrema) are present in all band structures of solids, their preeminent role in determining exciton resonances and dynamics in atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDC) is unique. Using two-dimensional coherent electronic spectroscopy, we find that exciton decoherence occurs on a much faster time scale in MoSe2_2 bilayers than that in the monolayers. We further identify two population relaxation channels in the bilayer, a coherent and an incoherent one. Our microscopic model reveals that phonon-emission processes facilitate scattering events from the KK valley to other lower energy Γ\Gamma and Λ\Lambda valleys in the bilayer. Our combined experimental and theoretical studies unequivocally establish different microscopic mechanisms that determine exciton quantum dynamics in TMDC monolayers and bilayers. Understanding exciton quantum dynamics provides critical guidance to manipulation of spin/valley degrees of freedom in TMDC bilayers.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure

<div>Recent developments in machine learning have led to a rise of large</div><div>number of methods for extracting features from structured data. The features</div><div>are represented as vectors and may encode for some semantic aspects of data.</div><div>They can be used in a machine learning models for different tasks or to com-</div><div>pute similarities between the entities of the data. SPARQL is a query language</div><div>for structured data originally developed for querying Resource Description Frame-</div><div>work (RDF) data. It has been in use for over a decade as a standardized NoSQL</div><div>query language. Many different tools have been developed to enable data shar-</div><div>ing with SPARQL. For example, SPARQL endpoints make your data interopera-</div><div>ble and available to the world. SPARQL queries can be executed across multi-</div><div>ple endpoints. We have developed a Vec2SPARQL, which is a general frame-</div><div>work for integrating structured data and their vector space representations.</div><div>Vec2SPARQL allows jointly querying vector functions such as computing sim-</div><div>ilarities (cosine, correlations) or classifications with machine learning models</div><div>within a single SPARQL query. We demonstrate applications of our approach</div><div>for biomedical and clinical use cases. Analyzing Partitioned FAIR Health Data Responsibly

It is widely anticipated that the use of health-related big data will enable further understanding and improvements in human health and wellbeing. Our current project, funded through the Dutch National Research Agenda, aims to explore the relationship between the development of diabetes and socio-economic factors such as lifestyle and health care utilization. The analysis involves combining data from the Maastricht Study (DMS), a prospective clinical study, and data collected by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) as part of its routine operations. However, a wide array of social, legal, technical, and scientific issues hinder the analysis. In this paper, we describe these challenges and our progress towards addressing them.Comment: 6 pages, 1 figure, preliminary result, project repor

Data2Services: enabling automated conversion of data to services

    Get PDF
While data are becoming increasingly easy to find and access on the Web, significant effort and skill is still required to process the amount and diversity of data into convenient formats that are friendly to the user. Moreover, these efforts are often duplicated and are hard to reuse. Here, we describe Data2Services, a new framework to semi-automatically process heterogeneous data into target data formats, databases and services. Data2Services uses Docker to faithfully execute data transformation pipelines. These pipelines automatically convert target data into a semantic knowledge graph that can be further refined to conform to a particular data standard. The data can be loaded in a number of databases and are made accessible through native and autogenerated APIs. We describe the architecture and a prototype implementation for data in the life sciences

Sequential order dependent dark-exciton modulation in bi-layered TMD heterostructure

Abstract We report the emergence of dark-excitons in transition-metal-dichalcogenide (TMD) heterostructures that strongly rely on the stacking sequence, i.e., momentum-dark K-Q exciton located exclusively at the top layer of the heterostructure. The feature stems from band renormalization and is distinct from those of typical neutral excitons or trions, regardless of materials, substrates, and even homogeneous bilayers, which is further confirmed by scanning tunneling spectroscopy. To understand the unusual stacking sequence, we introduce the excitonic Elliot formula by imposing strain exclusively on the top layer that could be a consequence of the stacking process. We further find that the intensity ratio of Q- to K-excitons in the same layer is inversely proportional to laser power, unlike for conventional K-K excitons. This can be a metric for engineering the intensity of dark K-Q excitons in TMD heterostructures, which could be useful for optical power switches in solar panels
