This qualitative study observed bullying patterns and trends of students with and without disabilities in inclusive settings. The participants were fourth grade students eligible for receiving special education services in inclusive , resource and self-contained settings. Qualitative data were collected while students were in class and during specials and non-academic times. The data suggests that students with disabilities are bullied and are themselves bullies at times. There appeared to be a relationship between personal characteristics and the incidence of bullying. Further, adult intervention was reported to be lax during incidences f bullying. Educational implications for schools, teachers and teacher educators are presented

Documentations made by Dariush I, King of the Kings, the great emperor of Persia (500 BC) are the largest inscriptions in the world including 1200 lines of about 2 meters length. These inscriptions written in Old Persian, that were simultaneously translated into Elamite and Babylonian, narrate the victories of Dariush over the rebellious rulers of the kingdom. This magnificent monument is carved on the stone wall of the holy mount of Bisotun in the western part of Iran. The monument was made at a height of about 80 meters above the road which made it almost impossible for anybody to get access to it. There has been a tendency since 450 years ago to decode these texts and record the relieves. In 1834, Rawlinson, hanging himself form the top of the mount, attempted to make a hand-recording and decoding of the entire monument which lasted 20 years. He could finally decode the old Persian language for the first time. Following this work, Thompson and Cameron tried to perform some restoration and correction works by means of photography and moulding. The new stage of this documentation process is the photogrammetric technique. For a long time, the photogrammetric documentation of this valuable and unique monument was investigated and desired by the authorities of the Iranian Organization of Cultural Heritage, but the dangerous situation of this monument that made the geodetic and photogrammetric operation very difficult, was a major reason for Iranian and foreign companies to not accept the photogrammetric documentation of this monument. This paper gives a scientific report on how this great job of “ Documentation “ was done within an academic project. All relieves, more than 120000 elements of the inscriptions and the surrounding objects and area were photogrammetrically documented and recorded with a precision of about 1 mm

EnglishRice price policy is one of the important instruments in order to create national food security. The aims of this research are to analyze the impact of factors on production and consumption of rice, also the change of domestic rice price and food index. The secondary data, especially from BPS, Department of Agriculture and Bulog, is analyzed in quantitative way using econometrics model. The government\u27s basis paddy price policy, which was determined by Inpres No. 9, 2002 can\u27t be implemented effectively because government doesn\u27t maintain the compatible supporting policy. Factors that influence the paddy production are last year paddy harvest area, rice import, price of urea-based fertilizer, real exchange value, and domestic rice price. Factors that influence the rice consumption are numbers of population, domestic rice price, last year rice import, domestic corn price and real exchange value. Factors that influence the domestic rice price are real exchange value, domestic corn price and basic rice price. In the mean time, factors that influence inflation, which is represented by the price changing of food index are the domestic rice price, real exchange value, excess demand of rice, basic rice price, world rice price and paddy total production. Low rice price policy is not suggested because in fact can\u27t push industrial sector to compete in the world market. Policy of domestic paddy/rice price stability, which is oriented on increasing farmer\u27s income, is the package of policy needed by farmer nowadays.

The development and validation of a multivariable model to predict whether patients referred for total knee replacement are suitable surgical candidates at the time of initial consultation

    Get PDF
Background: In previous studies, 50%-70% of patients referred to orthopedic surgeons for total knee replacement (TKR) were not surgical candidates at the time of initial assessment. The purpose of our study was to identify and cross-validate patient self-reported predictors of suitability for TKR and to determine the clinical utility of a predictive model to guide the timing and appropriateness of referral to a surgeon. Methods: We assessed pre-consultation patient data as well as the surgeon\u27s findings and post-consultation recommendations. We used multivariate logistic regression to detect self-reported items that could identify suitable surgical candidates. Results: Patients\u27 willingness to undergo surgery, higher rating of pain, greater physical function, previous intra-articular injections and patient age were the factors predictive of patients being offered and electing to undergo TKR. Conclusion: The application of the model developed in our study would effectively reduce the proportion of nonsurgical referrals by 25%, while identifying the vast majority of surgical candidates (\u3e 90%). Using patient-reported information, we can correctly predict the outcome of specialist consultation for TKR in 70% of cases. To reduce long waits for first consultation with a surgeon, it may be possible to use these items to educate and guide referring clinicians and patients to understand when specialist consultation is the next step in managing the patient with severe osteoarthritis of the knee

INCREASING FOOD ACCESSIBILITY AND MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES TO PROMOTE ADOLESCENT WELL-BEING IN A RURAL COMMUNITY

The Neighborhood and Built Environment is one of five Social Determinants of Health domains and is defined as where one lives, works, plays, and learns — all factors that affect one’s health. Cleveland County, North Carolina has a high percentage of school-age children who live in poverty, and face greater adversities including financial hardships, food insecurity, and adverse childhood experiences. The objective of this proposal is to increase the proportion of schools with policies and practices that promote health and safety. To address these issues, the nutrition-focused recommendation is to increase access to healthy foods by providing free meals to all participating County School students by expanding the Community Eligibility Provision of the National School Lunch Program. The policy-focused recommendation is to implement the “Require All Schools to Staff Mental Health Counselors” policy, encouraging a sustainable mental health support system in schools.Master of Public Healt

BackgroundInhaled nitric oxide (INO), a selective pulmonary vasodilator, has revolutionized the treatment of neonatal hypoxemic respiratory failure (NHRF). However, there is lack of sustained improvement in 30 to 46% of infants. Aerosolized prostaglandins I2 (PGI2) and E1 (PGE1) have been reported to be effective selective pulmonary vasodilators. The objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of a randomized controlled trial (RCT) of inhaled PGE1 (IPGE1) in NHRF.MethodsTwo pilot multicenter phase II RCTs are included in this report. In the first pilot, late preterm and term neonates with NHRF, who had an oxygenation index (OI) of ≥15 and <25 on two arterial blood gases and had not previously received INO, were randomly assigned to receive two doses of IPGE1 (300 and 150 ng/kg/min) or placebo. The primary outcome was the enrollment of 50 infants in six to nine months at 10 sites. The first pilot was halted after four months for failure to enroll a single infant. The most common cause for non-enrollment was prior initiation of INO. In a re-designed second pilot, co-administration of IPGE1 and INO was permitted. Infants with suboptimal response to INO received either aerosolized saline or IPGE1 at a low (150 ng/kg/min) or high dose (300 ng/kg/min) for a maximum duration of 72 hours. The primary outcome was the recruitment of an adequate number of patients (n = 50) in a nine-month-period, with fewer than 20% protocol violations.ResultsNo infants were enrolled in the first pilot. Seven patients were enrolled in the second pilot; three in the control, two in the low-dose IPGE1, and two in the high-dose IPGE1 groups. The study was halted for recruitment futility after approximately six months as enrollment targets were not met. No serious adverse events, one minor protocol deviation and one pharmacy protocol violation were reported.ConclusionsThese two pilot RCTs failed to recruit adequate eligible newborns with NHRF. Complex management RCTs of novel therapies for persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN) may require novel study designs and a longer period of time from study approval to commencement of enrollment.Trial registrationCLINICALTRIALS.GOV: Pilot one: NCT number: 00598429 registered on 10 January 2008.
