Occupational Safety Management Aspects on Municipal Waste Water Treatment Plant
There are new municipal waste water treatment plants being constructed in Latvia in the framework of the projects implemented with the EU co-financing. New modern equipment requires certain approach to occupational safety provision. This paper discloses aspects for occupational safety increasing on newly constructed municipal waste water treatment plants within several samples of WWTP designs, actuated in Latvia. WWTP occupational issues are examined from two aspects: operational safety and designed-in safety. The paper reviews several tender requirements for WWTP construction, Latvian Cabinet of Ministers regulations, EU-OSHA materials and abstracts of some medical researches in WWTP occupational health risks. Finally, recommendations to WWTP occupational safety increasing via project owner specification to design and via project owner staff operational safety trainings are presented

Запропоновано методи визначення матеріальніх втрат, спричинених пожежами,
з урахуванням екологічних втрат. Для покращення ефективності пожежної охорони
запропоновано використовувати команди добровольців у сільській місцевості, авто-
матизовані установки пожежогасіння на віддалених об'єктах, оптимізувати кількість
об'єктів на території обслуговування пожежної станції, застосування мобільних ро-
ботів. Використання мобільних роботів для охорони і моніторингу пожежної ситу-
ації на об'єкті істотно скоротить час вільного горіння виниклої пожежі і дасть змогу
зменшити економічний збиток від нього
Usage of Robots for the Increasing the Effectiveness of the Fire Protection
One should conclude that the role, possibilities and significance of disaster and rescue services in life protection and ensuring of populated areas in town and in the country are little examined. In fact, this process begins only now.
The service area of fire protection brigade is of great importance. In Riga these areas are larger than in other towns. It can be clearly seen in Table 4, where the density of Riga fire-fighting brigades stations in comparison with other world cities is given [2-4]
Economic Trends in the Provision of Labor Safety and Health Protection in the Industries of Latvia
In the environment of market economics, the competitiveness of enterprises is determined by many factors and indicators. One of which is an orderly working environment where employees are provided with safe operating condition. The goal of this paper is to analyse how Latvian employers have managed the funds that are necessary for the maintenance of a labour safety and health protection (further referred to as LSHP) system during the time of crisis. After reviewing the data provided by the company, one may draw a conclusion that companies on average spend 0.2% from the total turnover of sales to the provision of LSHP
Civil Defense System in Latvia and identified drawbacks in Riga
The article considers Latvian Civil Defence System (hereinafter referred to as CD), how it works in cases of possible threats, how CS system protects the safety of people and national economy as well as the interests of the entire society in case of a catastrophe; types of CD system safety measures, provision thereof, what processes affect CD system in Riga; attitude of responsible state institutions towards national safety system and environment. Based on the abovementioned, we will review how the society itself has influenced its own safety and based on its outcome we will see what protection measures should be provided from the standpoint of safe human and social life, why the drawbacks, deficiencies and indifferent attitude are allowed in relation to the safety system processes in the country and Riga. In the aspect of CD regulatory enactments methodology, an attempt is made to explain the current drawbacks in safety processes of tasks to be fulfilled by the municipality by means of calculations thus identifying the reasons that all emergency situations, breakdowns, catastrophes resulting from technogenic and natural risks depend on the attitude of state institutions, local governments and the society towards the safety, and on general economic situation
Technological Disasters
Accidents or disasters can be the result of natural
or man-made disasters. Technological disasters, civil
commotion, terror acts and armed conflicts are regarded as
man-made disasters. [1] In their turn, technogenic disasters
include fires, transport accidents, accidents in manufacturing
facilities, explosions, chemical substance leaks, etc. One of the
most serious problems is connected with fires. Density of
population in populated areas and welfare growing, fire risks
also grow, including the risk of being injured or killed during
fire. Threat to human life and health, possible damage to
property and environment caused by fire are considered to be
fire risk

Economic System of Evaluating Effectiveness of Fire Protection Taking into Consideration Use of Mobile Robots
Rising the level of fire security, reduction of fire risks
to socially acceptable level, reduction of the number of the dead
and the injures in the result of fire, as well as reduction of
damage from fires are achieved applying new technologies, such
as mobile fire robots. To assure good results in the scientific
research conducted within the framework of this field, the
contemporary trends are defined and the relevant research
methods are selected. The result of such a research is the
creation of experimental prototype of a fire robot
