Estudos de futuro e premiações em design: observatório de mudanças na cultura material

O artigo apresenta os fundamentos e etapas iniciais de projeto de pesquisa que visa estruturar um observatório de design voltado a realização de estudos, tanto retrospectivos quanto antecipatórios, vinculado a uma premiação brasileira de design. Inicialmente é realizada uma revisão bibliográfica sobre os estudos futuros; em seguida, esta abordagem é articulada com a prática do design. Argumenta-se, na sequencia, sobre a importância da pesquisa sobre premiações de design nesse contexto, e apresenta-se o prêmio investigado. Finalmente, o artigo discorre sobre o recorte da pesquisa –materiais e processos– e referências selecionadas para seu desenvolvimento

O design de superfície no campo da saúde e do bem-estar: estudo sobre características das texturas tridimensionais aplicadas ao produto rolo miofascial

Este estudo qualitativo e experimental parte de pesquisa de mestrado em curso, buscando mapear características elementares das texturas tridimensionais aplicadas à superfície do rolo miofascial, suas configurações projetuais e interativas, importantes para a práxis do designer de superfícies que busca atuar na área médica. Para tanto, apoiou-se nas teorias de práticas do design de superfície, projeto de produto em design, ergonomia e percepção sensorial. Foram realizadas entrevistas qualitativas semiestruturasdas com profissionais da fisioterapia, a fim de compreender a importância das texturas tridimensionais para o campo, e foi realizada uma revisão sistemáticada literatura. Por fim, fez-se a netnografia no YouTube e em sitescomplementares. Os requisitos utilizados para a seleção dos produtos analisados foram: disponibilidade de patentes digitais e presença de grid na superfície (termo mais utilizado no segmento, sinônimo de texturas tridimensionais). Para correlacionar os dados levantados com as teorias apresentadas, foi feita uma análise para gerar conteúdo representativo para o campo

Design guidelines for business-to-consumer reusable packaging. A circular economy approach

Within the circular strategies for packaging items, reusing is an approach considered in order to preserve more embedded value in terms of energy, labour and materials, instead of other alternatives, such as recycling. While that has already been adopted at scale in Business-to-Business packaging applications, solutions in a Business-to-Consumer approach remain less explored. This study reports a preliminary framework about the benefits and limitations of Business-to-Consumer reusable packaging applications, relying on data obtained by related literature review, opportunistic semi-structured interviews with users and web survey. As a result, it provides a systematization of design guidelines that may contribute to the development of Business-to-Consumer reusable packaging, an approach considered relevant, but usually overlooked, that could deliver functionally and aesthetically improved packaging that can conveniently benefit both users and manufacturers

Este artigo relata reflexões iniciais referentes ao processo de reaproveitamento de embalagens de consumo em âmbito doméstico objetivando, desse modo, comunicar algumas das motivações e preferências de usuários que parecem estar associadas à prática. As discussões são elencadas a partir de dados obtidos por meio de revisão narrativa da literatura correlata e de entrevistas semiestruturadas com os usuários selecionados. As análises dos resultados indicam que os consumidores percebem benefícios práticos e econômicos ao reaproveitarem algumas embalagens em suas residências, e que o fenômeno parece estar permeado por conceitos de higiene, limpeza e durabilidade, todos relacionados e dependentes, em certa medida, dos materiais e aspectos estruturais das embalagens. Conclui-se que o reaproveitamento de embalagens pelo consumidor é uma abordagem relevante a ser considerada em investigações futuras, tendo em vista o seu potencial para indicar parâmetros de design que possam ser explorados no projeto de embalagens sustentáveis.This paper reports initial findings concerning the domestic reuse of consumer packaging. It presents general perspectives drawn on data obtained by narrative review of the related literature and opportunistic semi-structured interviews with users, in order to find some underlying motivations and preferences of users that may contribute to the practice. Results indicate that consumers perceive both practical and economic benefits to reuse some packaging items in their homes, and the phenomenon seems to be surrounded by concepts of hygiene, cleanliness and durability, all of them related and dependent, to some extent, to packaging materials and structural aspects. It is concluded that the reuse of packaging by the consumer is a relevant approach to be considered in future investigations, regarding its potential to indicate some design guidelines that may contribute to the development of sustainable packaging

Práticas Pedagógicas no Ensino do Design para Sustentabilidade

O trabalho apresenta a experiência pedagógica na disciplina “Design, ambiente e sustentabilidade” do curso de graduação em design da Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade de São Paulo. O conteúdo teórico introduz conceitos de ecologia e discute estilos de vida na contemporaneidade sob a ótica da sustentabilidade. As práticas de ensino têm como objetivos principais: promover a reflexão sobre a atuação projetual no contexto dos modelos atuais de desenvolvimento, tendo como base de análise o ciclo de vida dos produtos e os impactos das ações humanas no planeta; e estimular a utilização de parâmetros socioambientais como requisitos de projeto

Management of waste from the pruning of urban greenery. Experiences in São Paulo, Brazil

The waste management of urban greenery is directly related to the sustainability of cities. Architects, designers, managers, and entrepreneurs have used woody residues creatively, in innovative business models, focusing on the transition to a circular economy. This article presents a systemic analysis of experiences on the theme, with an emphasis on the use of woody residues, from the design perspective, taking the State of São Paulo, Brazil, as the locus of investigation. The research covers: consolidation of the theoretical knowledge, bibliographic review on guidelines, best practices and production flow models, and the diagnosis of four local initiatives. The results demonstrate the relevant role of design as an inducer of new business models, as well as the importance of universities, in knowledge dissemination, technology transfer, and new initiatives proposals, with multiplier effects

Analysis of Nursing Team Knowledge About Phlebitis and Its Related Factors

Phlebitis is one of the local complications related to intravenous therapy, which must be managed by the nursing team. This study analyzed the knowledge of the nursing team about phlebitis and its main risk factors, prevention, and control measures. This is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative design carried out with 124 nursing professionals from a Brazilian university hospital. The data collection was carried out between the period of August 2018 to July 2019 for that, the researchers applied a multiple-choice questionnaire. The results showed the equivalence of the three nursing categories in terms of knowledge about phlebitis, however, there was a discrepancy concerning the phlebitis visualization scale, use of warm compresses, dressings, chemical properties of the solutions and factors intrinsic to the patient. Genetic diversity and structure of two species of Enyalius (Squamata: Leiosauridae) from neotropical biodiversity hotspots

Diversidade e estrutura genética de duas espécies de Enyalius (Squamata: Leiosauridae) em hotspots neotropicais de biodiversidade. Os lagartos do gênero Enyalius são endêmicos da América do Sul, sendo predominantemente encontrados no Cerrado e em fragmentos da Floresta Atlântica. Este é um gênero pouco estudado, e não foram encontrados dados relacionados à diversidade e à estrutura genética das espécies do gênero. Neste trabalho, investigamos a diversidade genética de populações de E. bilineatus (N = 20) e E. perditus (N = 28), usando um fragmento de 234-pb do citocromo b, e comparamos as sequências geradas com outras publicadas. Dezenove haplótipos distintos foram encontrados (11 de E. perditus e oito de E. bilineatus), sendo oito deles novos registros. Os valores de diversidade haplotípica foram muito similares para as duas espécies (0.684 para E. perditus e 0.647 para E. bilineatus). A distância genética entre as duas espécies foi de 20.3%, e as distâncias intraespecíficas foram 2.0% para E. perditus e 5.6% para E. bilineatus. Nossos dados sugerem que as populações de E. bilineatus são altamente divergentes e que a espécie deve apresentar diversidade críptica. Este é o primeiro estudo medindo a diversidade genética de espécies do gênero Enyalius oriundas de regiões consideradas hotspots da biodiversidade neotropical e apresenta dados relevantes para um melhor entendimento das relações inter e intrapopulacionais, assim como a distribuição das linhagens genéticas desse gênero endêmico.Genetic diversity and structure of two species of Enyalius (Squamata: Leiosauridae) from neotropical biodiversity hotspots. Enyalius, a lizard genus endemic to South America, is mostly distributed in the remains of the Atlantic Forest and in the Cerrado. The genus has been the topic of a few studies but none has quantified the genetic diversity and structure within and among populations of Enyalius. The genetic diversity and structure of populations of E. bilineatus (N = 20) and E. perditus (N = 28) are examined using a 234-bp fragment of the cytochrome b gene and compared with the sequences reported in other published data. Nineteen distinct haplotypes (eleven for E. perditus and eight for E. bilineatus) were found, eight of which were recorded for the first time. The haplotype diversities are highly similar for both species (0.684 for E. perditus and 0.647 for E. bilineatus). The genetic distance between the two species is 20.3% and the distance within species is 2.0% and 5.6% for E. perditus and E. bilineatus, respectively. Our data suggest that populations of E. bilineatus are genetically divergent and may reveal cryptic diversity. This is the first study to quantify the genetic diversity of species of Enyalius from Neotropical biodiversity hotspots. These data facilitate a better understanding of both within and among population variation, and highlight the distribution of genetic lineages of an endemic and poorly studied genus

Uterine cavity embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a rare solid tumor in childhood and adolescence. The higher incidence is predominant during the first two decades of life. According to the Intergroup RMS Study Group, the embryonal RMS (ERMS), botryoidal variant, constitutes a histological subtype characterized as a “grape-like” lesion of 2.0 cm to 9.5 cm. The treatment involves chemotherapy, surgery, and/or radiotherapy. We present the case of a 14-year-old female patient diagnosed with ERMS, botryoidal variant, which originated in the uterine cervix with vaginal externalization. The initial therapeutic approach comprised an initial prolapsed mass excision followed by Wertheim–Meigs surgery due to the tumor extension. No consensual protocol to ERMS treatment is found in the medical literature; however, a combined approach seems to offer a better result. The postoperative time period was uneventful and the patient followed an adjuvant therapy with vincristine, d-actinomycin, and cyclophosphamide. A comprehensive evaluation of the therapeutic options preserving the reproductive function—unfortunately not always possible—is part of a multi-disciplined care team concerning the pediatric patients
