    This paper discusses the scale-dependent grasp.Suppose that a human approaches an object initially placed on atable and finally achieves an enveloping grasp. Under such initialand final conditions, he (or she) unconsciously changes the graspstrategy according to the size of objects, even though they havesimilar geometry. We call the grasp planning the scale-dependentgrasp. We find that grasp patterns are also changed according tothe surface friction and the geometry of cross section in additionto the scale of object. Focusing on column objects, we first classifythe grasp patterns and extract the essential motions so that we canconstruct grasp strategies applicable to multifingered robot hands.The grasp strategies constructed for robot hands are verified byexperiments. We also consider how a robot hand can recognizethe failure mode and how it can switch from one to another

    Mixed Type of Malignant Mesothelioma in an Aged Male ICR Mouse

    Multiple whitish nodules in the thoracic cavity at the site of the thymus were observed in a 101-week-old male ICR mouse. In a histopathological examination, the neoplastic cells were predominantly fusiform in shape and proliferated in sarcomatoid growth patterns. Some neoplastic cells showed epithelial growth patterns, such as the ductal structures. Mitotic figures were frequently seen, and small necrotic foci and invasion to adjacent thoracic organs were noted. In Alcian blue staining, bluish materials were observed between fusiform-shaped cells and in some of the lumens of the ductal structures. In immunohistochemistry, both fusiform-shaped and ductal structure-forming cells were positive for vimentin and weakly positive to positive for cytokeratin. Based on the aforementioned findings, the thoracic nodules were diagnosed as a mixed type of malignant mesothelioma. This case was thought to be rare because of the very low occurrence of spontaneous mesothelioma in mice

    バスケットボール競技における重要な要素として対戦チームの特徴を把握することがあげられる.そこで本研究は,女子学生バスケットボールリーグ戦を対象としてチームの特徴を明らかにすることを目的とした.調査方法として,Z 地区大学女子学生リーグ戦におけるスタッツを収集し,チームの特徴を明らかにするために主成分分析を用いた.分析の結果,チーム特徴として13分析項目から 4 主成分が抽出され,各主成分得点順にチームを分類し特徴の調査を行なった結果,第 1 主成分では,攻撃戦術の有効性といった競技成績に関連する特徴が抽出された.第 2 主成分においてはチームの戦術展開に関する特徴及び,所属している選手の特徴が抽出された.第 3 及び,第 4 主成分では,防御行為を狙う特徴及び,その防御行為の危険性に関する特徴が抽出された.今回の調査で抽出されたチームの特徴について優先的に分析を行うことが試合展開を有利にするために重要であると考える

    Cyclooxygenase 2 and Prostaglandin E2 are not Involved in N-Nitrosodiethylamine-Initiated Early Rat Hepatocarcinogenesis

    The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of dietary supplementation with nimesulide or eugenol on N-nitrosodiethylamine (DEN)-initiated early hepatocarcinogenesis in F344 male rats. Both compounds did not alter the expression of cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2E1, the enzyme that plays a major role in the activation of DEN to genotoxic products; however, nimesulide induced the expression of CYP1A1. Western blot analysis revealed that COX-1 and COX-2 protein expressions were not modulated by DEN compared with normal controls. Furthermore, post-initiation feeding with nimesulide or eugenol did not modulate COX-2 protein expression in normal or DEN-treated rats, whereas eugenol significantly increased the liver prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) levels of DEN-injected animals compared with the DEN controls. Ultimately, nimesulide or eugenol did not modify DEN-induced hepatocarcinogenesis as evidenced by insignificant changes in the number and size of preneoplastic placental glutathione S-transferase (GST-P) positive liver foci compared with the DEN controls. These results suggest that COX-2, as well as prostaglandin E2, may play no role in the post-initiation development of DEN-induced rat hepatocarcinogenesis at an early stage
