THE IMPACT OF PROTESTANTISM ON THE ECONOMY OF THE COHO CHIL PEOPLE IN LAM DONG PROVINCE
This study examines the relationship between Protestantism and the Coho Chil economy using qualitative methods to analyze data from fieldwork in the Coho Chil Protestant communities of Lam Dong Province. The research shows that Protestantism has a positive impact on the economy of the Coho Chil community. This impact is manifested in casting out superstitious and magical practices and in applying economic rationalization. The Protestant doctrine and sermons by clergy have influenced the thinking of the people and their economic performance. Protestantism creates a social network and social capital that not only influences their economic life, but also provides timely material support for Christians in need. This paper serves as an additional resource for research related to the relationship between religion and the economy – an intriguing topic that is not found in much previous research in Vietnam. This study examines the relationship between Protestantism and the Coho Chil economy using qualitative methods to analyze data from fieldwork in the Coho Chil Protestant communities of Lam Dong Province. and orientation in juvenile shells of the Atlantic hard clamshell (Mercenaria
mercenaria). For measuring the retardance and optic axis orientation of curved shell
surfaces in three dimensions, we developed enhanced acquisition and processing
algorithms and combined results from conventional and light field imaging approaches
to reconstruct the three dimensional shell shape and its anisotropic optical properties.
Our work represents the first successful attempt to generate such maps at a spatial
resolution of about 2 m and angular steps of about 9° in terms of the inclination
angles of the optic axis. The maps of clamshell birefringence provide structural
insights into the early mineralization during juvenile clamshell development. The work was supported by US

We recorded experimental polarized light field images of small calcite crystals and of larger birefringent objects and compared our experimental results to numerical simulations based on polarized light ray tracing. We find good agreement between all our experiments and simulations, which leads us to propose polarized light ray tracing as one solution to the forward problem for the complex, nonlinear imaging mode of the polarized light field microscope. Solutions to the ill-posed inverse problem might be found in analytical methods and/or deep learning approaches that are based on training data generated by the forward solution presented here.National Institute of General Medical Sciences (R01GM114274, R35GM131843)
The Frequency of Whorl Patterns on the Fingertip of the Thai, Kinh H’mong Ethnic Students in Thuan Chau District, Son La Province
The study was conducted on 784 students aged 14 to 17 (383 male students and 401 female students), who were randomly selected, in Son La province. Following the standards of morphological and anthropological studies, this study aims to investigate the frequency of Whorl patterns on the fingertip of these students. The study shows that the frequency of Whorl patterns on students’ fingertips is 10.89% higher than other types of fingerprint patterns. Whorl patterns are more likely to be found on finger IV with the rate of 15.04% and rarely seen on finger V (7.4%) in all three ethnic groups (Thai, Kinh, H’Mong). The Kinh ethnic group has a higher rate of Whorl pattern than the other two groups. Moreover, the distribution of Whorl patterns is higher on the right hand than the left hand. The frequency of Whorl patterns on fingertips of all 3 ethnic groups follows the following sequence: Wc> Ws> Wdl> Wcp
Research of the market of housing for rent in Hanoi City
Housing for rent is the trend of choice for many subjects living in Hanoi city. This article analyzes the concept and characteristics of the market of housing for rent. The current situation of the market of housing for rent is analyzed according to three contents: (i) supply of housing for rent, (ii) demand of housing for rent and (iii) price and quality of housing for rent. The basis for analyzing the current situation is aggregated data on the real estate market in Hanoi city. On that basis, the authors propose some solutions to increase the efficiency of the market of housing for rent in Hanoi
The reality of traditional craft villages development in Vietnam from a financial perspective
In Vietnam, traditional craft villages represent a specific type of production and business that promotes local resources and leverages the comparative advantages of each regional area. Thereby, this field supports creating employment opportunities, increasing income, and improving the livelihoods of the local population. Based on the characteristics of scale, structure, and the production and business features of traditional craft villages, our research group has examined the reality of traditional craft village development in Vietnam and proposed solutions from a financial perspective including: (i) Capital mobilization, (ii) Revenue and profits, and (iii) Costs. The research results reveal spontaneous and small formation and development; small-scale capital, manual production equipment, outdated technology, low efficiency in fuel utilization, limited production grounds of traditional craft villages resulting in low business performance for some; products often lack competitiveness due to their monotonous designs; high production costs are incurred due to manual production methods; and the export market is limited in scope
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS OF THE USE OF FACEBOOK-BASED E-PORTFOLIOS IN EFL WRITING: A CASE IN THE MEKONG DELTA, VIETNAM
Electronic portfolios (e-portfolios) have grown in popularity in ESL/EFL writing instruction for their contributions to students’ writing. However, selecting an electronic tool in e-portfolios is of concern to many researchers and teachers. The combination of Facebook and e-portfolios is a rather new implementation in educational research, especially in high school contexts. Therefore, the current research aimed at exploring (1) high school students’ perceptions of the use of Facebook-based e-portfolios in terms of their contributions in writing, and (2) problems in using Facebook-based e-portfolios in writing. Fifty grade 11 students at a high school in Soc Trang province, Vietnam participated in the research. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected by using close-ended questionnaire and the interview. Prior to data collection, the students spent six weeks writing on Facebook close-typed groups. The results showed that the students highly appreciated the contributions of Facebook-based e-portfolios in terms of enhancing interaction, giving and receiving feedback, motivation and confidence in writing, writing skills, vocabulary, and grammar knowledge. No significant problems were found in using Facebook-based e-portfolios. The research is expected to shed light on implementing Facebook-based e-portfolios in improving the quality of teaching EFL/ESL writing in high school contexts. Article visualizations
ADSORPTION OF MERCURIC ION FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS USING MODIFIED FLY ASH
In this study, fly ash was treated with NaOH solution (FAN) before modifying with (3-mercaptopropyl) triethoxysilane - MPTMS (FAMPS). By using FTIR, FESEM, XRD, EDX, and BET techniques, the change in structure, composition and morphology of FAN and FAMPS was evaluated. The FTIR spectra of FAN and FAMPS showed that there is no chemical reaction between the MPTMS and FAN. After modification, the FAMPS has a rough surface with composition difference from the FAN. Mercuric ion adsorption behavior as well as adsorptionisotherm models (Langmuir and Freundlich) of the FAN and FAMPS were also investigated and discussed. Thanks to FAN modification, the mercuric ion removal percent of the FAMPS was higher than that of the FAN. Owing to the adsorption data, Freundlich isotherm modelwas fitted for the mercuric ion adsorption process
