In this study, the variables of zooplankton and water quality were investigated in the Can Giuoc River, Southern Vietnam. Zooplankton was monitored in April and September 2015 at 5 sampling sites in the river. Some basic water quality parameters were also tested, including pH, total suspended solid (TSS), dissolved oxygen (DO), biological oxygen demand (BOD5), inorganic nitrogen (NH4+), dissolved phosphorus (PO43-), and coliform. The zooplankton biodiversity indices were applied for the water quality assessment. The results showed that pH ranged from 6.7 to 7.6 during the monitoring. The TSSs were between 34–117 mg/L. The DO and BOD5 were from 0.6 to 3.8 mg/L and from 6.3 to 13.2 mg/L, respectively. The NH4+ and PO43- concentrations ranged from 0.44 to 3.23 and from 0.08 to 1.85 mg/L, respectively. The coliform number was between 9.3x103–9.3x104 MPN/100 mL. The zooplankton analyses showed that there were 31 species of coelenterates, rotatoria, oligochaetes, cladocerans, copepods, ostracods, mysidacea, and 8 larval types. Thereof, the species of copepods were dominant in the species number. The zooplankton density ranged from 9 500 to 23 600 individuals/m3 with the main dominant species of Moina dubia (Cladocera), Thermocyclops hyalinus, Acartia clausi, Oithona similis (Copepoda), and nauplius copepods. The biodiversity index values during the monitoring were from 1.47 to 1.79 characteristic of mesotrophic conditions of the aquatic environment. Besides, the species richness positively correlated with pH, TSS, DO, BOD5, NH4+, PO43-, and coliform, while the zooplankton densities got a positive correlation with DO, BOD5, NH4+, PO43-, and coliform. The results confirmed the advantage of using zooplankton and its indices for water quality assessment

Performance Evaluation of OpenStack Cloud Integrated with SDN Controller

The Internet is undergoing a revolution thanks to the development of a very popular recent technology trend - “Cloud Computing”. Large, small, and medium-sized businesses organizations, as well as individuals increasingly prefer to use cloud computing services due to their many advantages. Furthermore, the widespread implementation of cloud computing in large enterprises is an indicator of the technological advancement of information technology companies. It helps in the efficient allocation and utilization of infrastructure, power, and resources. In the meantime, centralized control provided by software-defined networking (SDN) allows for flexibility in operations and management. For that reason, there has been an adequate amount of research and application of combining these two objects over the years. In this study, we will evaluate network performance between virtual machines in terms of bandwidth, latency, and system performance interms of CPU, RAM, etc. in OpenStack with and without integration of SDN Controller - Tungsten Fabric (TF)

Occupational choice in Vietnam : entrepreneurship or wage employment? - investigation of determinants and policy implications; final draft

A boom in private businesses has attracted a large number of unemployed to cities, making some farming redundant in rural areas, while also making a great contribution to economic growth in Vietnam over the years. The study investigates the occupational choices of individuals between entrepreneurship and wage employment by examining the determinants of occupational transition between self-employment and wage employment over time

Review: Possible removal of heavy metal and selective rare-earth ions by polymeric and nano-composite materials.

Heavy metal contamination in aqueous environment from natural processes and human’s activities including pesticides usage, mining, factories discharging and leaking irritation shows an extreme threat to environment and human health. The control of rising amount of heavy metal in environment not only requires critical observations at their original sources but also demands efficient removal methods. However, each conventional method is only suitable in a certain range of use. For example, inexpensive materials and convenient techniques are necessary for large scale heavy meal treatment, while high performance system to remove almost trace amount of heavy metals are critically required for drinking water treatment. On the other hands, heavy metal treatments must be applicable in some crucial environment conditions. Among solutions for environmental heavy metal control, polymeric materials have showed many advantages to enhance the performance of conventional heavy metal adsorbents. Possessing functional chemical moieties on their side chains and backbones, polymers can act as main metal ion adsorption component and/or effective supports for the adsorption property. In addition, the utilization of polymeric components can result in a low corrosion, selectivity, controllability, and recyclability of absorbents when operated in real environment conditions. This article summarizes the preparation techniques and desirable properties of polymer for removal of toxic heavy metal ion as well as the possibility of polymers in collecting some rare noble metal ions. Keywords. Heavy metal ions, nano-composite, polymer

Macroalgae species of the genus Ulva are widely distributed in the wild. Many species of this genus has been used as food as an attractive material for the study of materials, fuels, food etc.. In this paper, we are focusing on nutrient method for cultivation of Ulva papenfussii and A nutrient source for cultivation of U. papenfussii was also investigated with the perspective of utilizing the produced biomass for feed. U. papenfussii is fragmented into 1 × 1 cm size, then it keep in Ulva extract of 0.1 g/l concentrate for 7 days. Then continue to keep fragments in the following conditions: 20 ml/l of PES medium, 700 μmol photon/m2/s of light, 25oC of temperature, 3% of salinity, 28 days of time. Under this condition the productivity U. papenfussii was 17.8 g/l of weight and its growth rate was 4.3–6.5% day. Nutritional cultivation is successful for U. papenfussii speceies, which is of great importance to study the potential of producing seaweed varieties like blades for commercial application of seaweed species.

In-capillary immuno-preconcentration with circulating bio-functionalized magnetic beads for capillary electrophoresis

International audienceThis study reports on the conception of magneto-Capillary Electrophoresis (magneto-CE), an approach integrating immuno-capture on circulating bio-functionalized magnetic beads into a unique capillary for preconcentration and electrokinetic separation. This hybrid mode is an evolution of in-capillary magnetic bead-based operation from static cluster format to dynamic configuration where beads are allowed to controllably circulate inside a CE capillary for interaction improvement. To implement the magneto-CE operation, a purpose-made instrument was constructed, allowing visual observation of the movement of the magnetic beads. We applied a new methodological strategy for determination of the amyloid β peptide (Aβ 1–42), which is as an established biomarker for molecular diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The methodology is based on magneto-immuno-capture of fluorescently labeled Aβ 1–42 followed by a chemical elution with a basic solution prior to CE separation with laser induced fluorescent (LIF) detection. The superiority of this dynamic configuration of magneto-CE was demonstrated for this target analyte, with sample pretreatment and separation being performed in-capillary without any delay in between and without any waste of pretreated sample, which otherwise would not be the case with offline/batch-wise operation
