Electricity Price Modeling Using Support Vector Machines by Considering Oil and Natural Gas Price Impacts

    Get PDF
Accurate electricity price prediction is one of the most important parts of decision making for electricity market participants to make reasonable competing strategies. Support Vector Machine (SVM) is a novel algorithm based on a predictive modeling method and a powerful classification method in machine learning and data mining. Most of SVM-based and non-SVM-based models ignore other important factors in the electricity price dynamics and electricity price models are built regard to just historical electricity prices; However, electricity price has a strong correlation with other variables like oil and natural gas price. In this paper, single SVM model is used to combine diverse influential variables as 1-Historical Electricity Price of Germany 2-GASPOOL price as first natural gas reference price 3-Net-Connect-Germany (NCG) price as second natural gas reference price 4- West Texas Intermediate (WTI) daily price as US oil benchmark. The simulation results show that using oil and natural gas prices can improve SVM model prediction ability compared to the SVM models built on mere historical electricity price

Vascular Graft Infections: An Overview of Novel Treatments Using Nanoparticles and Nanofibers

    No full text
Vascular disease in elderly patients is a growing health concern, with an estimated prevalence of 15–20% in patients above 70 years old. Current treatment for vascular diseases requires the use of a vascular graft (VG) to revascularize lower or upper extremities, create dialysis access, treat aortic aneurysms, and repair dissection. However, postoperative infection is a major complication associated with the use of these VG, often necessitating several operations to achieve complete or partial graft excision, vascular coverage, and extra-anatomical revascularization. There is also a high risk of morbidity, mortality, and limb loss. Therefore, it is important to develop a method to prevent or reduce the incidence of these infections. Numerous studies have investigated the efficacy of antibiotic- and antiseptic-impregnated grafts. In comparison to these traditional methods of creating antimicrobial grafts, nanotechnology enables researchers to design more efficient VG. Nanofibers and nanoparticles have a greater surface area compared to bulk materials, allowing for more efficient encapsulation of antibiotics and better control over their temporo-spatial release. The disruptive potential of nanofibers and nanoparticles is exceptional, and they could pave the way for a new generation of prosthetic VG. This review aims to discuss how nanotechnology is shaping the future of cardiovascular-related infection management

Open repair of a proximal left subclavian artery mycotic aneurysm with median claviculectomy

Surgical repair of a subclavian artery mycotic aneurysm is dependent on aneurysm-specific characteristics and anatomic exposures could require sternotomy, thoracotomy, or supraclavicular incisions. Alternatively, a median claviculectomy can be used. We successfully performed a subclavian artery to axillary artery bypass with median claviculectomy in a 23-year-old man with multiple comorbidities. Postoperative Doppler ultrasound showed a patent left axillary artery with a palpable left radial artery, and the patient demonstrated full left shoulder range of motion without any significant deformities. This case suggests that a median claviculectomy can produce satisfactory outcomes in patients with subclavian artery mycotic aneurysms

Cadaveric aortic aneurysm creation: a life-like model for training endovascular repair

    No full text
The recent decline in RAAA incidence and the fast paced scenario with associated challenges regarding training calls for initiative for a better training environment to maximize learning. This led us to the creation of a pulsatile human cadaveric RAAA model. Fresh frozen cadaver was used to create RAAA with BioTissue in hybrid suite with ability to perform CBCTA for sizing. As a proof of concept, the model was used to perform REVAR with proximal CODA balloon control. The model proved to be feasible and we believe it is a better environment to train and gain adequate proficiency in RAAA management. </p
