W dniach 23–24 października 2014 r. odbyła się w Uniwersytecie Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu czwarta edycja Ogólnopolskiej Konferencji Naukowej „Niewygodne dla władzy. Ograniczanie wolności słowa na ziemiach polskich od wieku XIX do czasów współczesnych”. Wydarzenie ma charakter cykliczny i organizowane jest co dwa lata przez Instytut Informacji Naukowej i Bibliologii UMK. W czasie obrad zaprezentowano dwadzieścia pięć referatów o zróżnicowanej tematyce. Większość z nich miała charakter interdyscyplinarny. Obejmowały ingerencje cenzorskie na łamach prasy oraz wobec książek, również dotyczące publikacji kartograficznych, komiksów, czy cenzury korespondencji.On 23–24 October 2014 the fourth edition of the National Conference “Unconvenient for the authorities. Warszawskie Targi Książki – święto książki w Polsce

W dniach 19–22 maja 2016 roku na PGE Narodowym odbyły się 7. Warszawskie Targi Książki oraz 10. Targi Książki Akademickiej i Naukowej ACADEMIA. Wzięło w nich udział ośmiuset piętnastu wystawców z dwudziestu pięciu krajów, a odwiedziło je ponad 70 tys. osób. Było to prawdziwe święto miłośników książek, podczas którego przyznano wiele ważnych nagród m.in. IKAR, Międzynarodową Nagrodę im. Ryszarda Kapuścińskiego, nagrodę za najlepszą książkę akademicką i naukową ACADEMIA, ECONOMICUS, nagrodę Stowarzyszenia Bibliotekarzy Polskich czy nagrodę Lwa Hieronima. Problemy rynku mangi w Polsce

Manga graphic novels have been present on Polish publishing market since 1997. The first publisher in Poland to start printing manga comic books was J. P. Fantastica. Today it is the largest and most important Polish publishing house printing manga, with four others in the market. The first manga magazine was “Kawaii” edited by Paweł Musiałowski. Manga is still controversial in Poland which causes problems for the publishing market such as distribution and technological issues, common stereotypes and difficulties in obtaining a license.Manga w Polsce jest obecna od 1997 r. i przybyła na fali popularności anime w telewizji. Pediatric adrenal incidentaloma as a rare and difficult to diagnose finding - review

Adrenal incidentaloma (AI) is an asymptomatic mass localized in the adrenal gland, usually detected during diagnostic imaging performed due to other health issues than the suspected adrenal disease. It occurs in 2% of adults and 0,2% of children. Pediatric AI may cause many difficulties in the diagnostic processes. Neuroblastoma is one of the most common malignant tumors in children. Usually, it is localized in the medulla of the adrenal gland. Many patients do not have any symptoms, but some may present with fever, weariness, weight loss, pain, enlarging mass, etc. The majority of cases are high- risk and the survival rate is less than 50%. The diagnostic protocol consists of laboratory tests and radiological imagining. Treatment depends on the risk group that the patient is assigned to. Pheochromocytoma is a rare catecholamine-secreting tumor in children originating in the adrenal medulla. Most pediatric patients present with sustained hypertension. 60% of pheochromocytoma cases are sporadic. The surgical removal of the tumor through adrenalectomy is a standard procedure. To the group of pediatric adrenocortical tumors (ACT), benign adrenocortical adenoma (ACA) and malignant adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) are included. ACA is found in only 20% of cases of ACT. Most of the patients present with signs of virilization, Cushing Syndrome, or both. The 5-years survival rate of ACC in the pediatric population is 46-55%. An adrenal incidentaloma is an unpredictable and possibly dangerous disorder in the pediatric population. Due to the rarity of the finding and their variety, there is not much data and clear recommendations about AI management. Polycystic ovary syndrome and pregnancy - review

Introduction and purpose Polycystic Ovary Syndrome(PCOS) is one of the most common endocrinological disorders, and it affects 7-8 % of women globally. It is very heterogenous disease, which pathogenesis is complex and composed of many factors like genetics, hormonal changes, environmental factors and insulin resistance. PCOS has many symptoms, which appearance is dependent on comorbidities like obesity, diabetes mellitus, hypercholesterolemia. Due to complexity of the pathogenesis of PCOS it may have four phenotypes: A,B,C,D.  The pregnancy pathologies connected to PCOS are mainly gestational diabetes mellitus, pregnancy induced hypertension. Pregnant women with PCOS have 3-4 times a higher risk of developing pregnancy induced hypertension (PIH) and preeclampsia and a three times higher risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). More than 64% of pregnancies in women with PCOS were terminated via caesarean section.  Metformin, although still controversial may be a good option for the treatment of PCOS before and during pregnancy as a second-line therapy. PCOS is a disease which affects the women in childbearing age and may have negative impact on its course. Pathologies connected to PCOS during pregnancy affect not only mothers, but foetus and according to new researches also children and adults from mothers with PCOS. It is very essential to extract women with PCOS to implement treatment and prevent its complications. Moreover, due to its common association with obesity patients should be under cardiologists care due to higher cardiovascular risk

Penile fracture with urethral rupture - case report

Introduction Penile fracture is a rupture of the tunica albuginea of the corpus cavernosum caused by an erect penis injury. It is noticed that hematomas always accompany penile fractures. We present a rare case of penile fracture between corpus cavernosus and urethra without hematoma formation. Case Presentation: A 41-year-old male patient presented to the emergency department due to a continuous flow of blood from his urethra, which started an hour earlier due to a penile injury during vigorous sexual intercourse. There was no audible 'snap' sound, but the incident was followed by severe pain and immediate loss of tumescence. His bleeding continued until surgery. No hematoma was observed – Figure 1. A urethrography was performed, and afterward, an experienced urologist inserted a catheter without encountering any resistance. The patient was diagnosed with rupturing the tunica albuginea of the corpus cavernosum and the urethra. No hematoma was found, and primary revision was performed. Urethra and tunica albuginea was sutured. After four weeks catheter was removed. The patient recovered with good uroflowmetry results and did not report erectile dysfunction. Conclusions Rapture of tunica albuginea to the urethra may cause severe bleeding without formation of the hematoma and "eggplant deformity." Therefore, early intervention is crucial to sustain erectile function and avoid urethral stricture

Review of commercially available biomarkers in the diagnosis of prostate cancer

Introduction Diagnosing prostate cancer is a complex process. Although PSA testing remains the basic laboratory study, new biomarkers and test are evolving quickly. Aim The aim of this review was to summarize available tests and markers for diagnosing prostate cancer. Materials and methods Literature search was conducted using PubMed and Cohrane databases. Results and conclusions Detailed description of ExoDx, PCA3, SelectMDx, Mi-prostate Score, SChLAP1, PSA, PHI, 4K Score tests was presented. Available test ease qualification for a prostate biopsy or observation. Patients should be qualified individually in deciding on  a specific test to be performed. Urologists should be aware of each test mechanism and limitations.

Psychologiczne aspekty otyłości

Nowadays the number of obese people is growing. Simultaneously, we can observe an increase in the availability of dietary services, reduction diets or various types of low-calorie food. What are the reasons for that? So far obesity and its consequences have been described in terms of somatic diseases. However, the psychological issue was ignored. Currently, we can observe a significant increase in the researcher’s interest in the psychological sphere of obese people. Excessive weight cannot be seen only as a consequence of the increased calorie intake. It is also the result of trained mechanisms of coping with stress, anxiety disorders, or as a result of low self-esteem and effectiveness. Probably people function in such a way because the word "food" has changed its function. It does not "just" provide food and energy. It has become a way of expressing feelings, spending time and coping with emotions. Eating meals fits in many aspects of human functioning, including a family aspect, a business aspect or a social one. High availability of food and the omnipresence of restaurants contribute to the fact that people easier grab meals, regardless of whether they need them or not. In some cases food is a way to get rid of boredom or the way of spending time. Certain features of temperament and personality are characteristic for obese people. In addition, recently more and more psychiatric disorders associated with obesity have been distinguished. Available diagnostic methods and knowledge on the mechanisms of these anomalies allow to their differentiation. We can distinguish the following disorders: binge eating disorder, night eating syndrome, stress eating, sleep eating disorders and others.Obecnie rośnie liczba otyłych osób, a jednocześnie obserwuje się wzrost dostępności usług dietetycznych, diet redukcyjnych czy różnego rodzaju żywności niskokalorycznej. Jakie są przyczyny takiego stanu rzeczy? Do tej pory rozpatrywano otyłość i jej konsekwencje w aspekcie chorób somatycznych, a kwestia psychologiczna była pomijana. Obecnie obserwuje się znaczny wzrost zainteresowania badaczy sferą psychologiczną osób otyłych. Nadmiernej masy ciała nie można postrzegać jedynie w kategoriach konsekwencji zwiększonej podaży kalorii. Jest ona również efektem wyuczonych mechanizmów radzenia sobie ze stresem, zaburzeniami lękowymi czy skutkiem niskiego poczucia własnej wartości oraz skuteczności. Najprawdopodobniej ludzie funkcjonują w taki sposób, ponieważ „jedzenie” zmieniło swoją funkcję. Nie jest już „tylko” dostarczaniem pokarmu, energii, stało się sposobem wyrażania uczuć, spędzania czasu, radzenia sobie z emocjami. Spożywanie posiłków wpisuje się w wiele aspektów funkcjonowania człowieka: rodzinnego, zawodowego, społecznego. Duża dostępność pożywienia, wszechobecność restauracji przyczyniają się do tego, że ludzie łatwiej sięgają po posiłki, bez względu na to, czy tego potrzebują, czy nie. W niektórych przypadkach jedzenie jest sposobem na nudę, możliwością spędzania czasu. Pewne cechy temperamentu i osobowości są charakterystyczne dla osób otyłych. Dodatkowo w ostatnim czasie wyróżnia się również coraz więcej zaburzeń psychicznych związanych z otyłością. Dostępne metody diagnostyczne oraz stan wiedzy na temat mechanizmów powstawania tych nieprawidłowości pozwalają na ich różnicowanie. Można tu wyróżnić takie zespoły, jak: zespół kompulsywnego jedzenia, syndrom jedzenia nocnego, jedzenie pod wpływem stresu, zaburzenia odżywiania związane ze snem i inne

Perfekcja w sporcie jako szansa i zagrożenie dla zawodników

Dążenie do perfekcji jest nieodłącznym elementem towarzyszącym uprawianiu sportu. Wymagania stawiane osobom uprawiającym sport  niejednokrotnie wiążą się z koniecznością przekraczania własnych granic, co przekłada się na specyficzny sposób postrzegania sytuacji zadaniowych.  Starty w zawodach i wielokrotnie powtarzane na treningach ćwiczenia powodują, że zawodnik często zaczyna postrzegać siebie przez pryzmat spełnienia wyznaczonych przez siebie lub narzuconych przez środowisko standardów. W momencie, kiedy te standardy stają się sztywne i powodują, że od ich realizacji zależy sposób postrzegania własnej wartości, podwyższa się ryzyko rozwoju perfekcjonizmu, który będzie oddziaływał negatywnie na jednostkę. Perfekcjonizm jest pojęciem trudnym do zdefiniowania i wielowymiarowym, stąd badacze zajmujący się tym konstruktem korzystają z różnych ujęć teoretycznych, co utrudnia krytyczną analizę wyników badań i porównanie ich między sobą. Z tego względu celem niniejszego artykułu jest dokonanie przeglądu wybranych artykułów naukowych dotyczących perfekcjonizmu w sporcie. W analizie uwzględniono zarówno wyniki badań, które wskazują na korzyści płynące z perfekcjonizmu pozytywnego, jak i konsekwencje, z którymi wiąże się wykorzystywanie strategii poznawczo-behawioralnych związanych z perfekcjonizmem negatywnym. Przeprowadzona analiza wykazała, że badania dotyczące perfekcjonizmu są coraz częściej podejmowane w odniesieniu do działalności sportowej, szczególnie wśród zawodników w okresie adolescencji i kształtującej się dorosłości. Perfekcjonizm pozytywny wydaje się korzystnie oddziaływać na funkcjonowanie zawodników, jednak wiąże się z nim ryzyko rozwoju perfekcjonizmu dysfunkcyjnego. Kształtowanie się perfekcjonizmu u zawodnika wiąże się zarówno z wpływem jego otoczenia, jak i jego doświadczeniami nabytymi w procesie uczenia się, zarówno w środowisku sportowym, jak i rodzinnym. Z tego względu w ramach podsumowania uzyskanych wyników odniesiono sposobu funkcjonowania sportowca do modelu poznawczo-behawioralnego perfekcjonizmu dysfunkcjonalnego oraz określono możliwe sposoby oddziaływania w przypadku zidentyfikowania jego symptomów
