Experimental Results on Advanced Rotary Desiccant Dehumidifiers
The Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI) has
developed the Cyclic Test Facility (CTF) to develop
and validate analytical methods for evaluating and
predicting the performance of advanced rotary dehumidifiers.
This paper describes the CTF, the dehumidifiers
tested at the CTF, and the analytical
methods used. The results reported provide an engineering
data base and a design tool for evaluating
rotary dehumidifiers for desiccant cooling
applications
Replacement Refrigerants for Water Chillers
The Montreal Protocol requires large water chillers cease using refrigerants 11, 22 and 123. Comparing thermodynamic and transport property parameters for these, 134a, 290, 601, 601a, 717 and pentaï¬uoroiodoethane avoids certain errors and biases. The parameters for R71 7 (ammonia) offer energy savings about 20%. R290 or 717 can replace 22. The pentane mixture R601 /601a [50/50] with an electronic 38% rotor speed increase can economically replace R11
2004: Usage and risk of hydrocarbon refrigerants in motor cars for Australia and the United States
The measured US fire, injury and cabin overpressure frequencies are less than 3.2 × 10 −7 per car year with high probability. This fire frequency is a hundred times lower than predicted because most R290/600a leaks in MACS use are effectively nonflammable
