No Extravagance in Poems. A Linkage between Toegye's Poetic Aesthetics and Life Realm

    Get PDF
Experiences in the heart is one matter and literary writing is another: Toegye (1501-1570, a famous Korean Confucianist), however, would rather regard the two as a completely unified process, which amalgamates an immanent quality and a literary style, without isolation between them. Toegye stressed and valued the purity of the first experience, i.e., the filtered and the purified in the heart, which would flow into the second experience and purify it as well, ultimately cultivating it into a complete aesthetic experience. Poetry should be solely triggered by positive emotions, being aesthetically clear and pure, with no extravagance inside. A plain and ordinary style of literary writing is thereby formed and is regarded as a natural access of transcendence to a philosophical, ethical, and aesthetic connotation which is pure, rich, and profound, 'shaping to Sagehood' in Confucianism. Emotion plays the role of a cementing force that unifies all these factors and sections for life aestheticization

Generalized Synchronization of Stochastic Discrete Chaotic System with Poisson Distribution Coefficient

    Get PDF
This paper addresses the generalized synchronization of stochastic discrete chaotic systems with Poisson distribution coefficient. Firstly, based on the orthogonal polynomial approximation theory of discrete random function in Hilbert spaces, the discrete chaotic system with random parameter is transformed into its equivalent deterministic system. Secondly, a general method for the generalized synchronization of discrete chaotic system with random parameter is presented by Lyapunov stability theory and contraction theorem. Finally, two synchronization examples numerically illustrated that the proposed control scheme is effective for any stochastic discrete system

Robust Topology Optimization Based on Stochastic Collocation Methods under Loading Uncertainties

    Get PDF
A robust topology optimization (RTO) approach with consideration of loading uncertainties is developed in this paper. The stochastic collocation method combined with full tensor product grid and Smolyak sparse grid transforms the robust formulation into a weighted multiple loading deterministic problem at the collocation points. The proposed approach is amenable to implementation in existing commercial topology optimization software package and thus feasible to practical engineering problems. Numerical examples of two- and three-dimensional topology optimization problems are provided to demonstrate the proposed RTO approach and its applications. The optimal topologies obtained from deterministic and robust topology optimization designs under tensor product grid and sparse grid with different levels are compared with one another to investigate the pros and cons of optimization algorithm on final topologies, and an extensive Monte Carlo simulation is also performed to verify the proposed approach

The New Formulation of Higgs Effective Field Theory

We present the explicit construction of the effective field theory (EFT) of standard model mass eigenstates. The EFT, which is invariant under U(1)e.m.×SU(3)cU(1)_{\text{e.m.}}\times SU(3)_c, is constructed based on the on-shell method and Young Tableau technique. This EFT serves as a new formulation of the Higgs EFT (HEFT), which can describe the infrared effects of new physics at the electroweak symmetry-breaking phase with greater conciseness. The current HEFT operator basis has a clear physical interpretation, making it more accessible for research in phenomenology. A complete list of HEFT operator bases for any-point vertices up to any dimension could be provided, and three- and four-point bases are provided as examples. Additionally, this framework realized as a Mathematica program can be used to construct the EFT of any type of dark matter or particles with any spin

Experimental Progress on Layered Topological Semimetals

We review recent experimental progresses on layered topological materials, mainly focusing on transitional metal dichalcogenides with various lattice types including 1T, Td and 1T' structural phases. Their electronic quantum states are interestingly rich, and many appear to be topological nontrivial, such as Dirac/Weyl semimetallic phase in multilayers and quantum spin hall insulator phase in monolayers. The content covers recent major advances from material synthesis, basic characterizations, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements, transport and optical responses. Following those, we outlook the exciting future possibilities enabled by the marriage of topological physics and two dimensional van der Waals layered heterostructures.Comment: 2D Materials (2019

Users Collaborative Mix-Zone to Resist the Query Content and Time Interval Correlation Attacks

    Get PDF
In location-based services of continuous query, it is easier than snapshot to confirm whether a location belongs to a particular user, because sole location can be composed into a trajectory by profile correlation. In order to cut off the correlation and disturb the sub-trajectory, an un-detective region called mix-zone was proposed. However, at the time of this writing, the existing algorithms of this type mainly focus on the profiles of ID, passing time, transition probability, mobility patterns as well as road characteristics. In addition, there is still no standard way of coping with attacks of correlating each location by mining out query content and time interval from the sub-trajectory. To cope with such types of attack, users have to generalize their query contents and time intervals similarity. Hence, this paper first provided an attack model to simulate the adversary correlating the real location with a higher probability of query content and time interval similarity. Then a user collaboration mix-zone (CoMix) that can generalize these two types of profiles is proposed, so as to achieve location privacy. In CoMix, each user shares the common profile set to lowering the probability of success opponents to get the actual position through the correlation of location. Thirdly, entropy is utilized to measure the level of privacy preservation. At last, this paper further verifies the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed algorithm by experimental evaluations

Effect of Alisma plantago-aquatica Linn extract on chronic prostatitis in rats

Purpose: To study the effect of Alisma plantago-aquatica Linn. extract (APLE) on chronic prostatitis in rats. Methods: Experimental chronic non-bacterial prostatitis (CNP) was induced in rats by injecting carrageenan into prostate. Rats in drug-treated groups were administered APLE or cernilton (positive control, i.e., reference standard) for 3 weeks while rats in normal and negative control groups were treated with saline at the same time. After treatment, prostate index (PI) and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) of all the rats were examined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). In addition, the relative inflammatory factors, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin 1β (IL-1β), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), prostaglandin E2 (PEG2), transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) and connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) of the prostate tissues were measured by ELISA.Results: A high dose of APLE (480 mg/kg) significantly decreased PI (0.7 ± 0.2 mg/g) relative to reference group (2.8 ± 0.3 mg/g, p < 0.01), and significantly decreased PSA level (128.6 ± 12.3 pg/mL) relative to reference group (321.3 ± 16.4 pg/mL, p < 0.01). Compared with reference group, TNF-α level (109.7 ± 9.3 pg/mL, p < 0.01), IL-1β level (98.3 ± 12.5 pg/mL, p < 0.01), PEG2 level (81.5 ± 4.2 pg/mL, p < 0.01), COX-2 level (10.5 ± 2.6 pg/mL, p < 0.01), TGF-β1 level (86.8 ± 7.3 pg/mL, p < 0.01) and CTGF level (70.3 ± 4.3 pg/mL, p < 0.01) of prostate tissues of high-dose APLE group rats decreased significantly. Conclusion: APLE shows significant anti-chronic prostatitis activity in rats. Further studies are, however, required to ascertain its therapeutic potentials in humansKeywords: Alisma plantago-aquatica, Chronic prostatitis, Inflammation, Prostate index, Morphometric analysis, Interstitial fibrosi
