Environmental and Ecocritical Concerns in Regional Poetry with Special Reference to Bhai Vir Singh’s Poetry

    Get PDF
With the initiative taken by Cheryll Glotfelty, the new discipline and theory known as Ecocriticism came into existence. Ecocriticism tries to explore the relationship of literature with the natural world and further it examines the role that natural surroundings and environment play in the minds of the creative writers during their imagination and creative process. The present study is an attempt to focus on Bhai Vir Singh’s selected poetry in the theoretical framework of ecocriticism in order to shed light on the poet’s vigilant views about the relationship of human life and nature.Bhai Vir Singh is a renowned modern Punjabi poet and novelist. He is essentially a poet of nature and mysticism. His opinions towards nature support his position to be considered as a major representative of recent environmental issues and ecocritical concerns in Punjabi literature. He could also be called the father of modern Punjabi literature as he began to write in this language when nobody was interested in it. It was an era when people's thoughts were more influenced by Urdu and Persian. He gave Punjabi verse a sophistication and new expressions. He draws the attention of the lethargic and the inert towards the imperishable beauties of the universe. He sought objective correlatives from the world of nature, flowers, springs, and birds to invoke the invisible and abstract force which is active behind the external visible reality. He was the first one to use blank verse form in poetry and was the author of numerous novels, plays and poetry collections. In this paper, an attempt has been made to explore an integral relationship woven between nature and man through the pen of Bhai Vir Singh

    Online Criminal Record

    Get PDF
In this project, we build a website for criminal record global it is useful for police to get information of the criminals in less time which reduce the human efforts. In this project, we use a scanner for scanning the fingerprints for identity of criminals. The project includes three phases. In the first phase, user chooses their tasks independently online through LAN. In phase two, user/police can search, modify, and update the criminal data at the server database. Server is capable of independently executing necessary client request. In phase three, the administrator can save the final criminal record and the client2019;s results in the database. The project manages several servers, one for each laboratory. The project is intended to reduce the workload of the policemen/ investigators, managing the record. The project can be used in various departments

Criminal Identification Based on Androgenic Hair Pattern Using KNN-Clustering Method

    Get PDF
This paper is implemented in order to identify the criminals in forensics based on the androgenic hair pattern of the criminal particularly in Low-resolution images. The Proposed paper is more dependable than the existing forensic techniques to identify criminals. The paper is implemented in five stages; in the first stage the input images and the database images are obtained after which the database images are trained through the algorithm to get the trained images. In the second stage pre-processing of the images is done in order to convert the image to grey scale and remove noise using thresholding method. The Third stage the image is passed through a Gabor filter to detect the edges in the image, this is followed by the Fourth phase where KNN clustering method is used to obtain the region of interest followed by the application of the bilateral filter in order to enhance the image. In the final stage the indifferent value calculated from the input image is matched with all the indifferent values of the trained images to identify the criminal

Homozygous R627W mutations in POLG cause mitochondrial DNA depletion leading to encephalopathy, seizures and stroke-like episodes

    Get PDF
Mutations in the mitochondrial DNA maintenance gene POLG (DNA Polymerase Gamma, Catalytic Subunit), encoding mitochondrial DNA polymerase gamma (pol Îł), are associated with an extremely broad phenotypic spectrum. We identified homozygous POLG c.1879C>T; p.R627W mutations in two siblings from a consanguineous South Asian family following targeted resequencing of 75 nuclear-encoded mitochondrial genes. Both patients presented with encephalopathy, seizures and stroke-like episodes, and mitochondrial DNA depletion was confirmed in the proband's muscle tissue. Subsequent Sanger sequencing of POLG in a further 275 unrelated probands with genetically unconfirmed mitochondrial disease revealed a third unrelated proband with a similar phenotype harboring homozygous c.1879C>T; p.R627W mutations and a fourth patient, with a milder clinical disorder, harboring compound heterozygous POLG c.1879C>T; p.R627W and c.2341G>A; p.A781T mutations. Given endogamous practices in the Indian subcontinent, homozygous POLG c.1879C>T; p.R627W mutations should be excluded in South Asian patients presenting with encephalopathy, seizures and stroke-like episodes

PRACTICING HEALTH PROMOTION IN PRIMARY CARE – A REFLECTIVE ENQUIRY

    Get PDF
IntroductionHealth promotion is an integral part of routine clinical practice. The physicians’ role in improving the health status of the general population, through effective understanding and delivery of health promotion practice, is evident throughout the international literature. Data from India suggest that physicians have limited skills in delivering specific health promotion services. However, the data available on this is scarce. This study was planned to document the current health promotion knowledge, perception and practices of local primary care physicians in Odisha. MethodsAn exploratory study was planned between the months of January – February 2013 in Odisha among primary care physicians working in government set up. This exploratory study was conducted, using a two-step self-administered questionnaire, thirty physicians practicing under government health system were asked to map their ideal and current health promotion practice, and potential health promotion elements to be worked upon to enhance the practice. ResultsThe study recorded a significant difference between the mean of current and ideal health promotion practices. The study reported that physicians want to increase their practice on health education. ConclusionWe concluded that inclusion of health promotion practices in routine care is imperative for a strong healthcare system. It should be incorporated as a structured health promotion module in medical curriculum as well

Exploring the “impact” in Impact sourcing ventures: a sociology of space perspective

    Get PDF
Using qualitative methods this paper explores the lived experience of individuals employed in impact sourcing ventures. In doing so, the paper attempts to understand “impact” from the point of view of beneficiaries. The paper, drawing on Georg Simmel’s work on the sociology of space, explores how space influences the lived experience of beneficiaries in ImS ventures. The findings highlight the various strategies adopted by beneficiaries to navigate the dialectical tensions experienced as a result of living and working in the new (ImS workplace) and the old (community) space. The paper also draws attention to the multifaceted nature of impact

The acute effects of alcohol on auditory thresholds

    Get PDF
There is very little knowledge about alcohol-induced hearing loss. Alcohol consumption and tolerance to loud noise is a well observed phenomenon as seen in the Western world where parties get noisier by the hour as the evening matures. This leads to increase in the referrals to the "hearing aid clinic" and the diagnosis of "cocktail party deafness" which may not necessarily be only due to presbyacusis or noise-induced hearing loss

Android Application for Efficient Management of Transport System

    Get PDF
The construct behind our plan is to implement an android application for the economical management of college bus system. Hence by developing an application like this the overhead along with Bus Management System can get a larger relief. Thus, this application will provide information regarding the whole details of the bus system like Bus Root, Bus Number, Student details, bus Time etc. by storing onto an information. And also this can provide an extra feature of message delivery system for the users (in case if there is delay for the bus) as well as for the management over some circumstances, in addition to that bus locating facility for the passengers. The key advantage is seems to be a gift of modern way of practice which is not common at present
