Why Gender Matters: A Partial Test of Travis Hirschi\u27s Element of Attachment
Recent studies have demonstrated the important role gender plays in determining the likelihood of involvement in delinquent behavior. Earlier theories of delinquency, including Hirschiās theory of social control have ignored the importance of gender by ignoring females all together. Using data derived from Wave 1 of the National Youth Survey, the purpose of this study is to conduct a partial test of Hirschiās Social Control theory to determine whether the theory can properly explain not only delinquency in boys, but also delinquency among girls
Reversal of Gender in Ancient Egyptian Mythology: Discovering the Secrets of Androgyny
Historically, the Egyptian view of life after death has been examined based on its spiritual and religious merit. There are other aspects of Egyptian culture, however, that lead us to believe that gender and sexual androgyny played a massive role in their religious practices. Ancient creation myths, such as the stories of Atumās phallic creation and the separation of Nut and Geb, hint towards a more sexually ambiguous Egypt, created by gender switching gods. In addition, the astronomy of the time pointed towards the center of the universe as being both a masculine and feminine entity; this is embodied in the constellation Ursa Major, whose shape is that of a bullās foreleg. Perhaps the most outstanding evidence of Egyptian sexuality, however, is their belief of gender reversal after death. Based on the outside of ancient sarcophagi, the common conviction was that a woman was transfigured into a man just before she entered the world of the dead. Therefore, the reversal of gender was a facet of Egyptian life, the center of their physical universe, and the epitome of death itself
Changing Perceptions after Involvement in the Development of an Interprofessional Training Program
Carotid Artery Aneurysm: A Case Study
A 60 year old male arrived at the emergency department after losing consciousness. CT showed he demonstrated a right hemispheric embolic stroke with a middle cerebral artery distribution. Upon further investigation, the patient was found to have a right common carotid artery aneurysm that extended about 1 cm from the carotid bifurcation into the internal carotid artery. The patient underwent carotid artery reconstruction with the use of his right great saphenous vein.
This case demonstrates an unusual form of cerebral embolization due to a internal carotid artery aneurysm

Examining whether exposure to external information influences perceptions of increased crime at an Olympic Games host destination: The case of London 2012
Risks associated with the Olympic Games have been studied; however, there is a lack of research that empirically examines whether exposure to external information influences prospective touristsā destination risk perceptions. A survey of 1,200 British, Australian, and Canadian residents was conducted to examine factors that influence prospective touristsā perceptions of increased crime in London during the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. The age group 55-64 was a significant predictor, while other age groups, income, and gender were not significant predictors. While controlling for demographics, past experience traveling to London and attending the Games were not significant predictors. Travel advisories and reading about the London riots were significant predictors, while watching television coverage of the riots and reading social media messages related to crises in London were not significant predictors while controlling for demographics and past experience. Lastly, travel risk perceptions were a significant predictor, while controlling for the previous independent variables
The Role of Critical Case Analysis in Interprofessional Education
Goals for interprofessional education include preparing students to work in collaborative practice, teaching them how to work in teams and to asses and improve the quality of patient care. (Barr, 2007, Thibault, 2013). Four core competency domains have been established to inform interprofessional education (Interprofessional Education Collaborative Expert Panel, 2011). These are ethics/values, roles/responsibilities, interprofessional communication and teams/teamwork. Various pedagogical approaches have been used to help students meet these competencies. The Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation (2013) recommends development and implementation of innovative models to link interprofessional education and practice. Thibault (2013) recommends students engage in āreal workā as part of their interprofessional education experience
Successes and Limitations of Hepatitis C Screening in the Inpatient Setting: Initial Impact of PA Act of 87 (APHA Roundtable discussion)
The Problem: Estimated 3.2 million in US with chronic HCV; Baby Boomers 5 times more likely to be infected compared to other cohorts Complex nature of HCV requires confirmation of HCV Ab screens to determine management and treatment needs.

Current quark mass dependence of nucleon magnetic moments and radii
A calculation of the current-quark-mass-dependence of nucleon static
electromagnetic properties is necessary in order to use observational data as a
means to place constraints on the variation of Nature's fundamental parameters.
A Poincare' covariant Faddeev equation, which describes baryons as composites
of confined-quarks and -nonpointlike-diquarks, is used to calculate this
dependence The results indicate that, like observables dependent on the
nucleons' magnetic moments, quantities sensitive to their magnetic and charge
radii, such as the energy levels and transition frequencies in Hydrogen and
Deuterium, might also provide a tool with which to place limits on the allowed
variation in Nature's constants.Comment: 23 pages, 2 figures, 4 tables, 4 appendice
Kinematic and kinetic analysis of dogs during trotting after amputation of a thoracic limb
Objective-To characterize biomechanical differences in gait between dogs with and without an amputated thoracic limb. Animals-Client-owned dogs (16 thoracic-limb amputee and 24 quadruped [control] dogs). Procedures-Dogs were trotted across 3 in-series force platforms. Spatial kinematic and kinetic data were recorded for each limb during the stance phase. Results-Amputees had significant increases in stance duration and vertical impulse in all limbs, compared with values for control dogs. Weight distribution was significantly increased by 14% on the remaining thoracic limb and by a combined 17% on pelvic limbs in amputees. Braking ground reaction force (GRF) was significantly increased in the remaining thoracic limb and pelvic limb ipsilateral to the amputated limb. The ipsilateral pelvic limb had a significantly increased propulsive GRF. The carpus and ipsilateral hip and stifle joints had significantly greater flexion during the stance phase. The cervicothoracic vertebral region had a significantly increased overall range of motion (ROM) in both the sagittal and horizontal planes. The thoracolumbar vertebral region ROM increased significantly in the sagittal plane but decreased in the horizontal plane. The lumbosacral vertebral region had significantly greater flexion without a change in ROM. Conclusions and Clinical Relevance-Compared with results for quadruped dogs, the vertebral column, carpus, and ipsilateral hip and stifle joints had significant biomechanical changes after amputation of a thoracic limb. The ipsilateral pelvic limb assumed dual thoracic and pelvic limb roles because the gait of a thoracic limb amputee during trotting appeared to be a mixture of various gait patterns. (Am J Vet Re
