Doped AB_2 Hubbard Chain: Spiral, Nagaoka and RVB States, Phase Separation and Luttinger Liquid Behavior
We present an extensive numerical study of the Hubbard model on the doped
AB chain, both in the weak coupling and the infinite-U limit. Due to the
special unit cell topology, this system displays a rich variety of phases as
function of hole doping () away from half-filling. Near half-filling,
spiral states develop in the weak coupling regime, while Nagaoka itinerant
ferromagnetism is observed in the infinite-U limit. For higher doping the
system phase-separates before reaching a Mott insulating phase of short-range
RVB states at . Moreover, for we observe a crossover,
which anticipates the Luttinger liquid behavior for .Comment: 11 pages, 13 figure
A nonlinear vehicle-structure interaction methodology with wheel-rail detachment and reattachment
. A vehicle-structure interaction methodology with a nonlinear contact formulation
based on contact and target elements has been developed. To solve the dynamic equations of
motion, an incremental formulation has been used due to the nonlinear nature of the contact
mechanics, while a procedure based on the Lagrange multiplier method imposes the contact
constraint equations when contact occurs. The system of nonlinear equations is solved by an
efficient block factorization solver that reorders the system matrix and isolates the nonlinear
terms that belong to the contact elements or to other nonlinear elements that may be incorporated
in the model. Such procedure avoids multiple unnecessary factorizations of the linear
terms during each Newton iteration, making the formulation efficient and computationally
attractive. A numerical example has been carried out to validate the accuracy and efficiency
of the present methodology. The obtained results have shown a good agreement with the results
obtained with the commercial finite element software ANSY
Magnetism and Electronic Correlations in Quasi-One-Dimensional Compounds
In this contribution on the celebration of the 80th birthday anniversary of
Prof. Ricardo Ferreira, we present a brief survey on the magnetism of
quasi-one-dimensional compounds. This has been a research area of intense
activity particularly since the first experimental announcements of magnetism
in organic and organometallic polymers in the mid 80s. We review experimental
and theoretical achievements on the field, featuring chain systems of
correlated electrons in a special AB2 unit cell structure present in inorganic
and organic compounds
Dictionary Learning-based Inpainting on Triangular Meshes
The problem of inpainting consists of filling missing or damaged regions in
images and videos in such a way that the filling pattern does not produce
artifacts that deviate from the original data. In addition to restoring the
missing data, the inpainting technique can also be used to remove undesired
objects. In this work, we address the problem of inpainting on surfaces through
a new method based on dictionary learning and sparse coding. Our method learns
the dictionary through the subdivision of the mesh into patches and rebuilds
the mesh via a method of reconstruction inspired by the Non-local Means method
on the computed sparse codes. One of the advantages of our method is that it is
capable of filling the missing regions and simultaneously removes noise and
enhances important features of the mesh. Moreover, the inpainting result is
globally coherent as the representation based on the dictionaries captures all
the geometric information in the transformed domain. We present two variations
of the method: a direct one, in which the model is reconstructed and restored
directly from the representation in the transformed domain and a second one,
adaptive, in which the missing regions are recreated iteratively through the
successive propagation of the sparse code computed in the hole boundaries,
which guides the local reconstructions. The second method produces better
results for large regions because the sparse codes of the patches are adapted
according to the sparse codes of the boundary patches. Finally, we present and
analyze experimental results that demonstrate the performance of our method
compared to the literature
