In this paper, we provide the formal definition about the so called “Ideological Curriculum (IC)” in the universities of China, namely, integrating ideological education in the professional courses and curriculum. The significance, current trend and situation of IC are introduced. The different of ideological education between international and local students are analysed. With a specific case, we further introduce how to integrate the ideological education into a professional course for international students in China

Background: Vietnamese Sophora Root mainly contains active constituents such as alkaloids, and it has anti-tumour, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory effects. The objective of the paper was to study the effects of Vietnamese Sophora Root on growth, adhesion, invasion and motility of mouse melanoma B16BL6 cells, and to preliminarily explore its mechanism of action. Materials and Methods: MTT assay was used to detect the effect of Vietnamese Sophora Root aqueous extract on B16BL6 cell proliferation. Cell adhesion assay, reconstituted basement membrane invasion assay and chemotactic motility assay were used to observe the effects of Vietnamese Sophora Root aqueous extract on adhesion, invasion and motility of B16BL6 cells. Results: Different concentrations of Vietnamese Sophora Root aqueous extracts had different degrees of inhibitory effects on B16BL6 proliferation. With the decrease of concentration, the proliferation inhibitory effect decreased and even turned to promoting effect. The extract significantly inhibited the adhesion of B16BL6 cells to the basement membrane component LN, and had a significant effect on both the invasive and migratory capacities of B16BL6 cells through the basement membrane. Conclusion: We concluded that the aqueous extract of Vietnamese Sophora Root can inhibit the proliferation of melanoma cells, as well as their adhesion and movement

Predictors of failure of early neurological improvement in early time window following endovascular thrombectomy: a multi-center study

Background and objectiveEndovascular thrombectomy (EVT) has become the gold standard in the treatment of acute stroke patients. However, not all patients respond well to this treatment despite successful attempts. In this study, we aimed to identify variables associated with the failure of improvements following EVT.MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed prospectively collected data of 292 ischemic stroke patients with large vessel occlusion who underwent EVT at three academic stroke centers in China from January 2019 to February 2022. All patients were above 18 years old and had symptoms onset ≤6 h. A decrease of more than 4 points on the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) after 24 h compared with admission or an NIHSS of 0 or 1 after 24 h was defined as early neurological improvement (ENI), whereas a lack of such improvement in the NIHSS was defined as a failure of early neurological improvement (FENI). A favorable outcome was defined as a modified Rankin scale (mRS) score of 0–2 after 90 days.ResultsA total of 183 patients were included in the final analyses, 126 of whom had FENI, while 57 had ENI. Favorable outcomes occurred in 80.7% of patients in the ENI group, in contrast to only 22.2% in the FENI group (p < 0.001). Mortality was 7.0% in the ENI group in comparison to 42.1% in the FENI group (p < 0.001). The multiple logistic regression model showed that diabetes mellitus [OR (95% CI), 2.985 (1.070–8.324), p = 0.037], pre-stroke mRS [OR (95% CI), 6.221 (1.421–27.248), p = 0.015], last known well to puncture time [OR (95% CI), 1.010 (1.003–1.016), p = 0.002], modified thrombolysis in cerebral infarction = 3 [OR (95% CI), 0.291 (0.122–0.692), p = 0.005], and number of mechanical thrombectomy passes [OR (95% CI), 1.582 (1.087–2.302), p = 0.017] were the predictors of FENI.ConclusionDiabetes mellitus history, pre-stroke mRS, longer last known well-to-puncture time, lack of modified thrombolysis in cerebral infarction = 3, and the number of mechanical thrombectomy passes are the predictors of FENI. Future large-scale studies are required to validate these findings

Status and Influencing Factors of Physical Exercise among College Students in China: A Systematic Review

The status of the physical exercise of college students has been a popular topic in China. This study systematically reviewed the exercise status of Chinese college students and its influencing factors. A keyword and reference search were conducted in the Web of Science, PubMed, Cochrane library, and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure. Additionally, Google Scholar was searched to collect literatures related to physical activity of Chinese university students published in Chinese and English from 1 January 2017 to 30 July 2022. Fifteen studies met the selection criteria and were included in the review. The results show that the main motivation for Chinese college students to exercise is to strengthen their bodies, with running and walking ranking first and ball games ranking second in importance. Most of the college students exercised three times a week, which is the recommended minimum, and most of their workouts were of moderate intensity. Additionally, the workouts lasted for 30 min to 60 min. The main factors affecting college students’ exercise are lack of time due to academic pressure, facilities constraints, and lack of professional exercise guidance. In conclusion, the physical fitness of university students should not be underestimated, and this study provides additional reference to promote healthier lifestyles among Chinese college students

A Fluid-Driven Loop-Type Modular Soft Robot with Integrated Locomotion and Manipulation Capability

In nature, some animals, such as snakes and octopuses, use their limited body structure to conduct various complicated tasks not only for locomotion but also for hunting. Their body segments seem to possess the intelligence to adapt to environments and tasks. Inspired by nature, a modular soft robot with integrated locomotion and manipulation abilities is presented in this paper. A soft modular robot is assembled using several homogeneous cubic pneumatic soft actuator units made of silicone rubber. Both a mathematical model and backpropagation neural network are established to describe the nonlinear deformation of the soft actuator unit. The locomotion process of the chain-type soft robot is analyzed to provide a general rhythmic control principle for modular soft robots. A vision sensor is adopted to control the locomotion and manipulation processes of the modular soft robot in a closed loop. The experimental results indicate that the modular soft robot put forward in this paper has both locomotion and manipulation abilities

High White Light Photosensitivity of SnSe Nanoplate-Graphene Nanocomposites

Abstract The multi-functional nanomaterial constructed with more than one type of materials has gained a great attention due to its promising application. Here, a high white light photodetector prototype established with two-dimensional material (2D) and 2D nanocomposites has been fabricated. The 2D-2D nanocomposites were synthesized with SnSe nanoplate and graphene. The device shows a linear I-V characterization behavior in the dark and the resistance dramatically decreases under the white light. Furthermore, the photosensitivity of the device is as large as 1110% with a rapid response time, which is much higher than pristine SnSe nanostructure reported. The results shown here may provide a valuable guidance to design and fabricate the photodetector based on the 2D-2D nanocomposites even beyond the SnSe nanoplate-graphene nanocomposites
