    Este artículo presenta la realización de una experiencia interactiva en la enseñanza de la Ingeniería de Reactores en la carrera de Ingeniería Química en la Universidad Nacional del Comahue, Argentina. Se basa en la utilización de Textos Interactivos, herramienta construida sobre la estructura del software 'Mathematica'. Específicamente, el texto que se propone en el trabajo corresponde a la enseñanza de Mecanismos de Reacción Química, presentándose los resultados obtenidos sobre la base de consideraciones pedagógicas. Sobre esta base, el uso de textos interactivos como herramienta en la enseñanza superior es enfáticamente recomendado.The student, nowadays, demands new pedagogic approaches, which implies a major use of the educational technology. The computer programs of modeling and calculation are available for the academic context. In this article it appears to an interactive text on Mechanisms of Chemical Reaction, developed with the software Mathematica (Wolfram, 1996), and the results of the evaluation that were obtained on having applied the above mentioned text. The pupils showed a major level of motivation in the development of the task with the alternative methodology that with the traditional class, and this motivation linked to the use of the software

    Efficacy of depression treatments for immigrant patients: Results from a systematic review

    Background: The unprecedented rates of global migration present unique challenges to mental health services in migrant receiving countries to provide efficacious and culturally salient treatment for mental health conditions including depression. This review aimed to identify and evaluate the effectiveness of depression interventions specifically directed towards first-generation immigrant populations.Methods: We conducted a systematic review of original research published between 2000 and 2013 that investigated depression interventions in first generation immigrants.Results: Fifteen studies were included; the majority focused on Latino immigrants living in the United States (US). Twelve studies investigated the use of psychotherapies; the remainder examined collaborative care models and physical exercise-based interventions. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Behavioral Activation tended to improve depressive symptoms, especially when culturally adapted to suit clients while Problem Solving Therapy improved depressive symptomology with and without adaptations. Collaborative care and exercise did not significantly improve depressive symptoms.Conclusion: Depression may be effectively treated by means of psychotherapies, especially when treatments are culturally adapted. However the reviewed studies were limited due to methodological weaknesses and were predominantly undertaken in the US with Latino patients. To improve generalizability, future research should be undertaken in non-US settings, amongst diverse ethnic groups and utilize larger sample sizes in either randomized clinical trials or observational cohort studies. © 2014 Antoniades et al.; licensee BioMed Central Ltd

    Robustness of quantum memories based on Majorana zero modes

    We analyze the rate at which quantum information encoded in zero-energy Majorana modes is lost in the presence of perturbations. We show that information can survive for times that scale exponentially with the size of the chain both in the presence of quenching and time-dependent quadratic dephasing perturbations, even when the latter have spectral components above the system's energy gap. The origin of the robust storage, namely the fact that a sudden quench affects in the same way both parity sectors of the original spectrum, is discussed, together with the memory performance at finite temperatures and in the presence of particle exchange with a bath.Physic

    Two-electron processes in multiple ionization under strong soft-x-ray radiation

    In a combined experimental and theoretical study we have investigated the ionization of atomic argon upon irradiation with intense soft-x-ray pulses of 105 eV photon energy from the free-electron laser FLASH. The measured ion yields show charge states up to Ar7+. The comparison with the theoretical study of the underlying photoionization dynamics highlights the importance of excited states in general and of processes governed by electron correlation in particular, namely, ionization with excitation and shake-off, processes usually inaccessible by measurements of ionic yields only. The Ar7+ yield shows a clear deviation from the predictions of the commonly used model of sequential ionization via single-electron processes and the observed signal can only be explained by taking into account the full multiplet structure of the involved configurations and by inclusion of two-electron processes. The competing process of two-photon ionization from the ground state of Ar6+ is calculated to be orders of magnitude smaller

    Completeness and consistency of renormalisation group flows

    We study different renormalisation group flows for scale dependent effective actions, including exact and proper-time renormalisation group flows. These flows have a simple one loop structure. They differ in their dependence on the full field-dependent propagator, which is linear for exact flows. We investigate the inherent approximations of flows with a non-linear dependence on the propagator. We check explicitly that standard perturbation theory is not reproduced. We explain the origin of the discrepancy by providing links to exact flows both in closed expressions and in given approximations. We show that proper-time flows are approximations to Callan-Symanzik flows. Within a background field formalism, we provide a generalised proper-time flow, which is exact.
