Optical brighteners effect on white and coloured textiles

    Get PDF
Optical brighteners are colourless to weakly coloured organic compounds that, in solution or applied to a substrate, absorb ultraviolet light and re-emit most of the absorbed energy as blue-violet light between 400 and 500 nm. These compounds are included in commercial detergents formulation in order to increase whiteness and intensifying the colours. The aim of this work was to study several industrial situations related with colour changes after domestic washing. In order to achieve that, the effect of optical brighteners on white and coloured textiles was considered. The action of eight of the most known commercial detergents, on different colours, was tested. Among the selected washing agents, three of them were more specific products: a ‘colour protector’, ‘for black and dark colours’ and ‘with active oxygen’. Fabrics with and without pre-brightening were tested. In all the cases, colour fastness tests to washing (with ECE detergent and standard soaps) and to rubbing were done in order to conclude about the influence of these parameters on final results

Classification of pasture degradation levels in terms of hydric erosion risk in Quartzipsamments areas at Alto Taquari watershed (MS/MT, Brazil).

    Get PDF
Pasture degradation is currently one of Brazil's agriculture main problems. Pasture areas grown on Quartzipsamments (RQ) at the Alto Taquari watershed (BAT) are important sources of sediments which intensify the Taquari riverÂŽs situation in Pantanal. The objective of this work was to assess the use of the Linear Spectral Mixture Model (LSMM) in the mapping and characterization of the current degradation level of pastures planted on RQ at BAT in terms of erosion risk. Using Landsat 5 satellite images of 2010 and employing the LSMM, we generated an image for exposed soil (ES), which was used along with field work to define three pasture degradation levels: low degradation level or not degraded (ES 45%) and high degradation level (ES > 45%). In 2010, the pastures grown on RQ at BAT encompassed a total of 851,204 ha, which corresponded to 66.3% of this soil class and to 30.1% of the watershed surface. The largest amount of pasture areas, around 57%, showed medium degradation level, about 9% showed high degradation level, and the remainder, around 34%, were pastures with low degradation level or not degraded.NĂșmero Especial

Editorial: Coaches' role in youth sports performance: early specialization versus long-term development

    Get PDF
Youth sports are planned sports programs for children and adolescents with designated coaches, organized practices, and scheduled competitions. Such programs can be organized and implemented at schools (by physical education teachers instead of coaches), as well as in other sports organizations (i.e., federations, associations, local clubs). Primary aim should be to focus on providing young athletes with fundamental motor skills in tandem to their maturation stage. Indeed, these programs are aimed at mass participation rather than on developing elite athletes. The participation in such programs during childhood and adolescence showed to have major benefits in children’s and adolescent’s physical, psychological, and social development. On the other hand, youth sports programs can also serve as a link to talent identification and development programs aiming to identify young athletes with potential for success in adult/elite sport. As they aremass orientated, many youth athletes can be observed which will increase the likelihood of talent identification. Afterwards, these athletes can be guided to high-performance programs aiming to achieve eventually an elite level.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
