Transcriptional Heterogeneity and the Microbiome of Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma
Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphomas (CTCL) presents with substantial clinical variability and transcriptional heterogeneity. In the recent years, several studies paved the way to elucidate aetiology and pathogenesis of CTCL using sequencing methods. Several T-cell subtypes were suggested as the source of disease thereby explaining clinical and transcriptional heterogeneity of CTCL entities. Several differentially expressed pathways could explain disease progression. However, exogenous triggers in the skin microenvironment also seem to affect CTCL status. Especially Staphylococcus aureus was shown to contribute to disease progression. Only little is known about the complex microbiome patterns involved in CTCL and how microbial shifts might impact this malignancy. Nevertheless, first hints indicate that the microbiome might at least in part explain transcriptional heterogeneity and that microbial approaches could serve in diagnosis and prognosis. Shaping the microbiome could be a treatment option to maintain stable disease. Here, we review current knowledge of transcriptional heterogeneity of and microbial influences on CTCL. We discuss potential benefits of microbial applications and microbial directed therapies to aid patients with CTCL burden
Monitoring of Cell Layer Integrity with a Current-Driven Organic Electrochemical Transistor
The integrity of CaCo-2 cell barriers is investigated by organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) in a current-driven configuration. Ion transport through cellular barriers via the paracellular pathway is modulated by tight junctions between adjacent cells. Rupturing its integrity by H2O2 is monitored by the change of the output voltage in the transfer characteristics. It is demonstrated that by operating the OECT in a current-driven configuration, the sensitive and temporal resolution for monitoring the cell barrier integrity is strongly enhanced as compared to the OECT transient response measurement. As a result, current-driven OECTs are useful tools to assess dynamic and critical changes in tight junctions, relevant for clinical applications as drug targeting and screening
X-Ray Scattering at FeCo(001) Surfaces and the Crossover between Ordinary and Normal Transitions
In a recent experiment by Krimmel et al. [PRL 78, 3880 (1997)], the critical
behavior of FeCo near a (001) surface was studied by x-ray scattering. Here the
experimental data are reanalyzed, taking into account recent theoretical
results on order-parameter profiles in the crossover regime between ordinary
and normal transitions. Excellent agreement between theoretical expectations
and the experimental results is found.Comment: 9 pages, Latex, 1 PostScript figure, to be published in Phys.Rev.
Automated Intelligent Monitoring and the Controlling Software System for Solar Panels
The inspection of the solar panels on a periodic basis is important to improve longevity and ensure performance of the solar system. To get the most solar potential of the photovoltaic (PV) system is possible through an intelligent monitoring & controlling system. The monitoring & controlling system has rapidly increased its popularity because of its user-friendly graphical interface for data acquisition, monitoring, controlling and measurements. In order to monitor the performance of the system especially for renewable energy source application such as solar photovoltaic (PV), data-acquisition systems had been used to collect all the data regarding the installed system. In this paper the development of a smart automated monitoring & controlling system for the solar panel is described, the core idea is based on IoT (the Internet of Things). The measurements of data are made using sensors, block management data acquisition modules, and a software system. Then, all the real-time data collection of the electrical output parameters of the PV plant such as voltage, current and generated electricity is displayed and stored in the block management. The proposed system is smart enough to make suggestions if the panel is not working properly, to display errors, to remind about maintenance of the system through email or SMS, and to rotate panels according to a sun position using the Ephemeral table that stored in the system. The advantages of the system are the performance of the solar panel system which can be monitored and analyzed
Modified critical correlations close to modulated and rough surfaces
Correlation functions are sensitive to the presence of a boundary. Surface
modulations give rise to modified near surface correlations, which can be
measured by scattering probes. To determine these correlations, we develop a
perturbative calculation in deformations in height from a flat surface. The
results, combined with a renormalization group around four dimensions, are also
used to predict critical behavior near a self-affinely rough surface. We find
that a large enough roughness exponent can modify surface critical behavior.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure. Revised version as published in Phys. Rev. Lett.

Surface induced disorder in body-centered cubic alloys
We present Monte Carlo simulations of surface induced disordering in a model
of a binary alloy on a bcc lattice which undergoes a first order bulk
transition from the ordered DO3 phase to the disordered A2 phase. The data are
analyzed in terms of an effective interface Hamiltonian for a system with
several order parameters in the framework of the linear renormalization
approach due to Brezin, Halperin and Leibler. We show that the model provides a
good description of the system in the vicinity of the interface. In particular,
we recover the logarithmic divergence of the thickness of the disordered layer
as the bulk transition is approached, we calculate the critical behavior of the
maxima of the layer susceptibilities, and demonstrate that it is in reasonable
agreement with the simulation data. Directly at the (110) surface, the theory
predicts that all order parameters vanish continuously at the surface with a
nonuniversal, but common critical exponent. However, we find different
exponents for the order parameter of the DO3 phase and the order parameter of
the B2 phase. Using the effective interface model, we derive the finite size
scaling function for the surface order parameter and show that the theory
accounts well for the finite size behavior of the DO3 ordering but not for that
of B2 ordering. The situation is even more complicated in the neighborhood of
the (100) surface, due to the presence of an ordering field which couples to
the B2 order.Comment: To appear in Physical Review
Correlation functions near Modulated and Rough Surfaces
In a system with long-ranged correlations, the behavior of correlation
functions is sensitive to the presence of a boundary. We show that surface
deformations strongly modify this behavior as compared to a flat surface. The
modified near surface correlations can be measured by scattering probes. To
determine these correlations, we develop a perturbative calculation in the
deformations in height from a flat surface. Detailed results are given for a
regularly patterned surface, as well as for a self-affinely rough surface with
roughness exponent . By combining this perturbative calculation in
height deformations with the field-theoretic renormalization group approach, we
also estimate the values of critical exponents governing the behavior of the
decay of correlation functions near a self-affinely rough surface. We find that
for the interacting theory, a large enough can lead to novel surface
critical behavior. We also provide scaling relations between roughness induced
critical exponents for thermodynamic surface quantities.Comment: 31 pages, 2 figure
