New Charged Black Holes with Conformal Scalar Hair
A new class of four-dimensional, hairy, stationary solutions of the
Einstein-Maxwell-Lambda system with a conformally coupled scalar field is
constructed in this paper. The metric belongs to the Plebanski-Demianski family
and hence its static limit has the form of the charged C-metric. It is shown
that, in the static case, a new family of hairy black holes arises. They turn
out to be cohomogeneity-two, with horizons that are neither Einstein nor
homogenous manifolds. The conical singularities in the C-metric can be removed
due to the back reaction of the scalar field providing a new kind of regular,
radiative spacetime. The scalar field carries a continuous parameter
proportional to the usual acceleration present in the C-metric. In the
zero-acceleration limit, the static solution reduces to the dyonic
Bocharova-Bronnikov-Melnikov-Bekenstein solution or the dyonic extension of the
Martinez-Troncoso-Zanelli black holes, depending on the value of the
cosmological constant.Comment: Published versio
Kaluza-Klein black hole with negatively curved extra dimensions in string generated gravity models
We obtain a new exact black-hole solution in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity
with a cosmological constant which bears a specific relation to the
Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant. The spacetime is a product of the usual
4-dimensional manifold with a -dimensional space of constant negative
curvature, i.e., its topology is locally {\ma M}^n \approx {\ma M}^4 \times
{\ma H}^{n-4}. The solution has two parameters and asymptotically approximates
to the field of a charged black hole in anti-de Sitter spacetime. The most
interesting and remarkable feature is that the Gauss-Bonnet term acts like a
Maxwell source for large while at the other end it regularizes the metric
and weakens the central singularity.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, final version to appear in Physical Review D as a

EXAFS Study on Local Structure of Iron Crystal by the Use of Asymmetrical Monochromator and PSPC
The EXAFS spectroscopy equipment constructed from an asymmetrical cut flat monochromator and PSPC is applied to the structural determination of pure α-iron which has small difference (0.038nm) in the first and second nearest neighbour distance. The efficiency of the curve fitting method for the two shell model of known structure material (α-iron) is discussed, in addition to describing the details of the experimental procedure of our new type of spectrometer and of the EXAFS data analysis
Neutral Collective Excitations in Striped Hall States
In the striped Hall state, a magnetic translation in one direction is
spontaneously broken to the discrete translation. The spectrum of the neutral
collective excitation is obtained in the single mode approximation at
half-filled third and fourth Landau levels. The spectrum is anisotropic and has
a multiple line node structure. In one direction, the spectrum resembles the
liquid Helium spectrum with the phonon and roton minimum.Comment: 2 pages, 2 figures, LT23 Hiroshim
Radiation from an accelerated quark via AdS/CFT
In this paper we investigate radiation by an accelerated quark in a strongly
coupled gauge theory via AdS/CFT correspondence. According to AdS/CFT
dictionary, we can read off energy density or energy flux of the radiation from
asymptotic gravitational field in AdS bulk sourced by an accelerated string
trailing behind the quark. In the case of an oscillating quark with frequency
, we show that the time averaged energy density is asymptotically
isotropic and it falls off as with
distance from the source. In a toy model of a scattered quark by an
external field, we simply estimate Poynting vector by the bremsstrahlung
radiation and show that the energy flux is anisotropic outgoing radiation.
Based on these investigations, we discuss the properties of strongly coupled
gauge theory radiation in comparison with electromagnetic radiation.Comment: 16 pages, no figures, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.
Creation of a brane world with Gauss-Bonnet term
We study a creation of a brane world using an instanton solution. We analyze
a brane model with a Gauss-Bonnet term in a bulk spacetime. The curvature of
3-brane is assumed to be closed, flat, or open. We construct instanton
solutions with branes for those models, and calculate the value of the actions
to discuss an initial state of a brane universe.Comment: 9 pages, 10 figure
