Neutron depolarization studies of Pd-Ni-Fe-P alloy
Bulk metallic glasses based on the quaternary alloy Pd-Ni-Fe-P exhibit interesting phase behavior depending on temperature and applied magnetic field. Previous work has suggested that a range of magnetic phases including paramagnetic, superparamagnetic, ferromagnetic and spin glass can be observed in this system. We have applied one dimensional neutron depolarization to explore the correlation of magnetic moments in Pd40Ni22.5Fe17.5P20 alloy as a function of temperature and applied magnetic field. The results provided evidence for correlation lengths of ~ 200 Ã…. The nature of the correlations and the formation mechanism of the induced ferromagnetic phase are discusse
Electron Self-Energy of High Temperature Superconductors as Revealed by Angle Resolved Photoemission
In this paper, we review some of the work our group has done in the past few
years to obtain the electron self-energy of high temperature superconductors by
analysis of angle-resolved photoemission data. We focus on three examples which
have revealed: (1) a d-wave superconducting gap, (2) a collective mode in the
superconducting state, and (3) pairing correlations in the pseudogap phase. In
each case, although a novel result is obtained which captures the essense of
the data, the conventional physics used leads to an incomplete picture. This
indicates that new physics needs to be developed to obtain a proper
understanding of these materials.Comment: 5 pages, revtex, 3 encapsulated postscript figures, SNS97 proceeding

Nature of the Electronic Excitations near the Brillouin Zone Boundary of BiSrCaCuO
Based on angle resolved photoemission spectra measured on different systems
at different dopings, momenta and photon energies, we show that the anomalously
large spectral linewidth in the region of optimal doped and
underdoped BiSrCaCuO has significant contributions
from the bilayer splitting, and that the scattering rate in this region is
considerably smaller than previously estimated. This new picture of the
electronic excitation near puts additional experimental constraints
on various microscopic theories and data analysis.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
On the determination of the Fermi surface in high-Tc superconductors by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy
We study the normal state electronic excitations probed by angle resolved
photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) in Bi2201 and Bi2212. Our main goal is to
establish explicit criteria for determining the Fermi surface from ARPES data
on strongly interacting systems where sharply defined quasiparticles do not
exist and the dispersion is very weak in parts of the Brillouin zone.
Additional complications arise from strong matrix element variations within the
zone. We present detailed results as a function of incident photon energy, and
show simple experimental tests to distinguish between an intensity drop due to
matrix element effects and spectral weight loss due to a Fermi crossing. We
reiterate the use of polarization selection rules in disentangling the effect
of umklapps due to the BiO superlattice in Bi2212. We conclude that, despite
all the complications, the Fermi surface can be determined unambiguously: it is
a single large hole barrel centered about (pi,pi) in both materials.Comment: Expanded discussion of symmetrization method in Section 5, figures

Holographic dark energy with time varying parameter
We consider the holographic dark energy model in which the model parameter
evolves slowly with time. First we calculate the evolution of EoS
parameter as well as the deceleration parameter in this generalized version of
holographic dark energy (GHDE). Depending on the parameter , the phantom
regime can be achieved earlier or later compare with original version of
holographic dark energy. The evolution of energy density of GHDE model is
investigated in terms of parameter . We also show that the time-dependency
of can effect on the transition epoch from decelerated phase to
accelerated expansion. Finally, we perform the statefinder diagnostic for GHDE
model and show that the evolutionary trajectories of the model in plane
are strongly depend on the parameter .Comment: 16 pages, 4 figures, accepted by Astrophys Space Sc
Statefinder diagnostic and stability of modified gravity consistent with holographic and new agegraphic dark energy
Recently one of us derived the action of modified gravity consistent with the
holographic and new-agegraphic dark energy. In this paper, we investigate the
stability of the Lagrangians of the modified gravity as discussed in [M. R.
Setare, Int. J. Mod. Phys. D 17 (2008) 2219; M. R. Setare, Astrophys. Space
Sci. 326 (2010) 27]. We also calculate the statefinder parameters which
classify our dark energy model.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures, accepted by Gen. Relativ. Gravi
Performance of nano-structured multilayer PVD coating TiAlN/VN in dry high speed milling of aerospace aluminium 7010-T7651
A low-friction and wear resistant TiAlN/VN multilayer coating with TiAlN/VN bilayer thickness 3 nm has been grown by using the combined cathodic arc etching and unbalanced magnetron sputtering deposition on high speed steel tools for dry cutting of aluminium alloys. In this paper, in-lab and industrial high speed milling tests have been performed on an aerospace aluminium alloy 7010-T7651. The results show that the TiAlN/VN coated tools achieved lower cutting forces, lower metal surface roughness, and significantly longer tool lifetime by three times over the uncoated tools as a result of the low friction and eliminated tool-metal adhesion. Under the same conditions, a TiAlN based multicomponent coating TiAlCrYN also increased the tool lifetime by up to 100% despite the high cutting forces measured
Stability of As [n=4, 8, 20, 28, 32, 36, 60] Cage Structures
We present all-electron density functional study of the geometry, electronic
structure, vibrational modes, polarizabilities as well as the infrared and
Raman spectra of fullerene-like arsenic cages. The stability of As cages
for sizes 4, 8, 20, 28, 32, 36, and 60 wherein each As atom is three-fold
coordinated is examined. We find that all the cages studied are vibrationally
stable and while all the clusters are energetically stable with respect to
isolated arsenic atoms, only As is energetically stable against
dissociation into As. We suggest that the Raman spectra might be a means
for observing the As molecule in gas phase.Comment: Uses elsart.cls (Elsevier Science), (Better pictures can be obtained

Interacting Ricci Dark Energy with Logarithmic Correction
Motivated by the holographic principle, it has been suggested that the dark
energy density may be inversely proportional to the area of the event
horizon of the universe. However, such a model would have a causality problem.
In this work, we consider the entropy-corrected version of the holographic dark
energy model in the non-flat FRW universe and we propose to replace the future
event horizon area with the inverse of the Ricci scalar curvature. We obtain
the equation of state (EoS) parameter , the deceleration
parameter and in the presence of interaction between Dark
Energy (DE) and Dark Matter (DM). Moreover, we reconstruct the potential and
the dynamics of the tachyon, K-essence, dilaton and quintessence scalar field
models according to the evolutionary behavior of the interacting
entropy-corrected holographic dark energy model.Comment: 24 pages, accepted for publication in 'Astrophysics and Space
