CP violation in 5D Split Fermions Scenario
We give a new configuration of split fermion positions in one extra dimension
with two different Yukawa coupling strengths for up-type, , and down-type,
, quarks at . The new configurations can give enough
CP violating (CPV) phase for accommodating all currently observed CPV
processes. Therefore, a 5D standard model with split fermions is viable. In
addition to the standard CKM phase, new CPV sources involving Kaluza-Klein(KK)
gauge bosons coupling which arise from the fact that unitary rotation which
transforms weak eigenstates into their mass eigenstates only holds for the zero
modes which are the SM fields and not for the KK excitations. We have examined
the physics of kaon, neutron, and mesons and found the most stringent
bound on the size of the extra dimension comes from .
Moreover, it depends sensitively on the width, , of the Gaussian
wavefunction in the extra dimension used to describe of the fermions. When
, the constraint will be lifted due to GIM suppression on the
flavor changing neutral current(FCNC) and CPV couplings.Comment: 24 pages, 8 figure
Resonances in radiative hyperon decays
The importance of resonances for the radiative hyperon decays is examined in
the framework of chiral perturbation theory. Low lying baryon resonances are
included into the effective theory and tree contributions to these decays are
calculated. We find significant contributions to both the parity-conserving and
parity-violating decay amplitudes and a large negative value for the asymmetry
parameter in polarized Sigma^+ -> p gamma is found, in agreement with the
experimental result alpha(p Sigma^+) = -0.76 +/- 0.08.Comment: 14 pages, 2 figure
One-loop Regularization of Supergravity II: The Dilaton and the Superfield Formulation
The on-shell regularization of the one-loop divergences of supergravity
theories is generalized to include a dilaton of the type occurring in effective
field theories derived from superstring theory, and the superfield structure of
the one-loop corrections is given. Field theory anomalies and quantum
contributions to soft supersymmetry breaking are discussed. The latter are
sensitive to the precise choice of couplings that generate Pauli-Villars
masses, which in turn reflect the details of the underlying theory above the
scale of the effective cut-off. With a view to the implementation the
Green-Schwarz and other mechanisms for canceling field theory anomalies under a
U(1) gauge transformation and under the T-duality group of modular
transformations, we show that the K\"ahler potential renormalization for the
untwisted sector of orbifold compactification can be made invariant under these
groups.Comment: 46 pages, full postscript also available from

Dynamical Supersymmetry Breaking and the Linear Multiplet
We analyze gaugino condensation in the presence of a dilaton and an
antisymmetric tensor field, with couplings reminiscent of string theories. The
degrees of freedom relevant to a supersymmetric description of the effective
theory below the scale of condensation are discussed in this context.Comment: 17 pages, LaTeX, no figures -- 1 reference correcte
Selfduality of non-linear electrodynamics with derivative corrections
In this paper we investigate how electromagnetic duality survives derivative
corrections to classical non-linear electrodynamics. In particular, we
establish that electromagnetic selfduality is satisfied to all orders in
for the four-point function sector of the four dimensional open
string effective action.Comment: 8 page
One-Loop Pauli-Villars Regularization of Supergravity I: Canonical Gauge Kinetic Energy
It is shown that the one-loop coefficients of on-shell operators of standard
supergravity with canonical gauge kinetic energy can be regulated by the
introduction of Pauli-Villars chiral and abelian gauge multiplets, subject to a
condition on the matter representations of the gauge group. Aspects of the
anomaly structure of these theories under global nonlinear symmetries and an
anomalous gauge symmetry are discussed.Comment: 46 pages, full postscript also available from

Remarks on the Racetrack Scheme
There are only a small number of ideas for stabilizing the moduli of string
theory. One of the most appealing of these is the racetrack mechanism, in which
a delicate interplay between two strongly interacting gauge groups fixes the
value of the coupling constant. In this note, we explore this scenario. We find
that quite generally, some number of discrete tunings are required in order
that the mechanism yield a small gauge coupling. Even then, there is no sense
in which a weak coupling approximation is valid. On the other hand, certain
holomorphic quantities can be computed, so such a scheme is in principle
predictive. Searching for models which realize this mechanism is thus of great
interest. We also remark on cosmology in these schemes.Comment: 20 pp, latex, discussion of calculability modifie
One-loop Correction and the Dilaton Runaway Problem
We examine the one-loop vacuum structure of an effective theory of gaugino
condensation coupled to the dilaton for string models in which the gauge
coupling constant does not receive string threshold corrections. The new
ingredients in our treatment are that we take into account the one-loop
correction to the dilaton K\"ahler potential and we use a formulation which
includes a chiral field corresponding to the gaugino bilinear. We find
through explicit calculation that supersymmetry in the Yang-Mills sector is
broken by gaugino condensation.
The dilaton and field have masses on the order of the gaugino
condensation scale independently of the dilaton VEV. Although the calculation
performed here is at best a model of the full gaugino condensation dynamics,
the result shows that the one-loop correction to the dilaton K\"ahler potential
as well as the detailed dynamics at the gaugino condensation scale may play an
important role in solving the dilaton runaway problem.Comment: 19 page
Theory-Motivated Benchmark Models and Superpartners at the Tevatron
Recently published benchmark models have contained rather heavy
superpartners. To test the robustness of this result, several benchmark models
have been constructed based on theoretically well-motivated approaches,
particularly string-based ones. These include variations on anomaly and
gauge-mediated models, as well as gravity mediation. The resulting spectra
often have light gauginos that are produced in significant quantities at the
Tevatron collider, or will be at a 500 GeV linear collider. The signatures also
provide interesting challenges for the LHC. In addition, these models usually
account for electroweak symmetry breaking with relatively less fine-tuning than
previous benchmark models.Comment: 44 pages, 4 figures; some typos corrected. Revisions reflect
