Configuration Of Grafted Polystyrene Chains In The Melt: Temperature And Concentration Dependence
The concentration profiles of carboxy-terminated polystyrene chains in the melt grafted onto oxide-covered silicon substrates were measured using secondary-ion mass spectroscopy. The grafting density increased with temperature and an enthalpy of +7.4 kcal/mole was deduced for the grafting reaction, SiOH + R(COOH) ⇄ R(COOSi) + H2O. Relatively high grafting densities (σ∼6.6·mg/m2) were achieved with minimal chain distortion or displacement of long chains by shorter ones. Significant stretching of the grafted chains occurred for σ > 10 mg/m2. An equilibrium constant for the grafting reaction incorporating entropy is discussed.69577677
Magnetotunneling spectroscopy of mesoscopic correlations in two-dimensional electron systems
An approach to experimentally exploring electronic correlation functions in
mesoscopic regimes is proposed. The idea is to monitor the mesoscopic
fluctuations of a tunneling current flowing between the two layers of a
semiconductor double-quantum-well structure. From the dependence of these
fluctuations on external parameters, such as in-plane or perpendicular magnetic
fields, external bias voltages, etc., the temporal and spatial dependence of
various prominent correlation functions of mesoscopic physics can be
determined. Due to the absence of spatially localized external probes, the
method provides a way to explore the interplay of interaction and localization
effects in two-dimensional systems within a relatively unperturbed environment.
We describe the theoretical background of the approach and quantitatively
discuss the behavior of the current fluctuations in diffusive and ergodic
regimes. The influence of both various interaction mechanisms and localization
effects on the current is discussed. Finally a proposal is made on how, at
least in principle, the method may be used to experimentally determine the
relevant critical exponents of localization-delocalization transitions.Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures include
Observational Constraints on Teleparallel Dark Energy
We use data from Type Ia Supernovae (SNIa), Baryon Acoustic Oscillations
(BAO), and Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) observations to constrain the
recently proposed teleparallel dark energy scenario based on the teleparallel
equivalent of General Relativity, in which one adds a canonical scalar field,
allowing also for a nonminimal coupling with gravity. Using the power-law, the
exponential and the inverse hyperbolic cosine potential ansatzes, we show that
the scenario is compatible with observations. In particular, the data favor a
nonminimal coupling, and although the scalar field is canonical the model can

Phase-Space analysis of Teleparallel Dark Energy
We perform a detailed dynamical analysis of the teleparallel dark energy
scenario, which is based on the teleparallel equivalent of General Relativity,
in which one adds a canonical scalar field, allowing also for a nonminimal
coupling with gravity. We find that the universe can result in the
quintessence-like, dark-energy-dominated solution, or to the stiff dark-energy
late-time attractor, similarly to standard quintessence. However, teleparallel
dark energy possesses an additional late-time solution, in which dark energy
behaves like a cosmological constant, independently of the specific values of
the model parameters. Finally, during the evolution the dark energy
equation-of-state parameter can be either above or below -1, offering a good
description for its observed dynamical behavior and its stabilization close to

the multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock (MCDF) method with quantum electrodynamics
