Fractional chemotaxis diffusion equations
We introduce mesoscopic and macroscopic model equations of chemotaxis with anomalous subdiffusion for modeling chemically directed transport of biological organisms in changing chemical environments with diffusion hindered by traps or macromolecular crowding. The mesoscopic models are formulated using continuous time random walk equations and the macroscopic models are formulated with fractional order differential equations. Different models are proposed depending on the timing of the chemotactic forcing. Generalizations of the models to include linear reaction dynamics are also derived. Finally a Monte Carlo method for simulating anomalous subdiffusion with chemotaxis is introduced and simulation results are compared with numerical solutions of the model equations. The model equations developed here could be used to replace Keller-Segel type equations in biological systems with transport hindered by traps, macromolecular crowding or other obstacles
Surface width scaling in noise reduced Eden clusters
The surface width scaling of Eden A clusters grown from a single aggregate
site on the square lattice is investigated as a function of the noise reduction
parameter. A two-exponent scaling ansatz is introduced and used to fit the
results from simulations covering the range from fully stochastic to the

The milliped genus Euryurus Koch, 1847 (Polydesmida: Euryuridae) west of the Mississippi River; occurrence of E. leachii (Gray, 1832) on Crowley’s Ridge, Arkansas
The milliped genus Euryurus Koch, 1847, and the species, E. leachii (Gray, 1832) (Polydesmida: Euryuridae), are recorded from three sites on the northern part of Crowley’s Ridge (Cross, Lee, and Poinsett counties), Arkansas, where the only prior familial records are of Auturus evides (Bollman, 1887). Coupled with the published locality of E. leachii in Phillips Co., at the southern extremity of the Ridge, the only known occurrences of both the genus and species in Arkansas and west of the Mississippi River are in this physiographic feature. The Arkansas population is geographically peripheral but anatomically intermediate between the two recognized subspecies, E. l. leachii and E. l. fraternus Hoffman, 1978, and we do not assign it to a race. Molecular investigations seem necessary to resolve relationships in the “E. leachii complex.
Fractional Fokker-Planck Equations for Subdiffusion with Space-and-Time-Dependent Forces
We have derived a fractional Fokker-Planck equation for subdiffusion in a
general space-and- time-dependent force field from power law waiting time
continuous time random walks biased by Boltzmann weights. The governing
equation is derived from a generalized master equation and is shown to be

Diffuse Background Radiation
A new determination of the upper limit to the cosmic diffuse background
radiation, at ~110 nm, of 300 photons s-1 cm-2 sr-1 nm-1, is placed in the
context of diffuse background measurements across the entire electromagnetic
spectrum, including new optical, infrared, visible, and gamma-ray background
measurements. The possibility that observed excess diffuse visible radiation is
due to redshifted cosmological Lyman alpha recomination radiation is explored.

Surface Encapsulation for Low-Loss Silicon Photonics
Encapsulation layers are explored for passivating the surfaces of silicon to
reduce optical absorption in the 1500-nm wavelength band. Surface-sensitive
test structures consisting of microdisk resonators are fabricated for this
purpose. Based on previous work in silicon photovoltaics, coatings of SiNx and
SiO2 are applied under varying deposition and annealing conditions. A short dry
thermal oxidation followed by a long high-temperature N2 anneal is found to be
most effective at long-term encapsulation and reduction of interface
absorption. Minimization of the optical loss is attributed to simultaneous
reduction in sub-bandgap silicon surface states and hydrogen in the capping

The author has identified the following significant results. The Cement oil field, Oklahoma, was a test site for an experiment designed to evaluate LANDSAT's capability to detect an alteration zone in surface rocks caused by hydrocarbon microseepage. Loss of iron and impregnation of sandstone by carbonate cements and replacement of gypsum by calcite were the major alteration phenomena at Cement. The bedrock alterations were partially masked by unaltered overlying beds, thick soils, and dense natural and cultivated vegetation. Interpreters, biased by detailed ground truth, were able to map the alteration zone subjectively using a magnified, filtered, and sinusoidally stretched LANDSAT composite image; other interpreters, unbiased by ground truth data, could not duplicate that interpretation
