Article contain the results of the yacons leaves and root tubers water extracts and suspensions of yacons root tubers effect on glucose tolerance in animals with experimental diabetes mellitus (EDM). It was shown that the studied yacons extracts and suspensions at a 500 mg / kg dose has significant hypoglycemic effect under the experimental diabetes mellitus. Glucose tolerance test and analysis of the area under the glycemic curves revealed that the best hypoglycemic effect possess yacons root tubers in the form of a stabilized suspension.

Hypoglycemic effect of Galega Officinalis L. extracts at experimental diabetes mellitus

The research has been carried out investigating the effects of Galega officinalis on the dynamics of glucose concentration changes in healthy rats and under experimental streptozotocin-induced diabetes. The hypoglycemic effect of the extract both in the control group and in animals with diabetes was shown. It was also found that the medication obtained from ethanolic extract of Gallega officinalis had prolonged hypoglycemic effect after stop of treatment

The article contains data on the influence of yakon (Smallanthus Sonchifolius Poepp. & Endl.) root as well as aerial parts water extracts on glucose tolerance. The use of aqueous extracts of yakon aerial parts contributed to a significant increase of glucose (glu) tolerance. This led to significant reduction of integrated glycemic index – the area under the curve of glucose (AUCglu). In particular it was established that the use of yakon leaf extract causes the decline of AUCglu by 30.2 % in comparison with the control, while the use of petioles and stems extracts provided reduction of AUCglu to 20.7 and 17.2 %, respectively. Comparative analysis of the hypoglycemic action of yakon root water extracts in healthy animals suggests that yakon tubers extract has more pronounced hypoglycemic effect, whase use resulted in reduction of AUCglu to 39.4 %, while the tuber peel extract caused a reduction of this index to 29.9 %. Thus, conducted research of antidiabetic properties of yakon extracts allow to recommend aqueous extracts of its leaves and root tubers as effective hypoglycemic agents

Methods of obtaining a stable substance for functional foods with antioxidant and hypoglycemic action based on powder root tubers of yacon’ are proposed. The aim of the study was to develop a substance stabilizing method which can be the basis for functional food, using yacons root tubers and investigate the changes of hypoglycemic effect of yacons’ root tubers water suspensions after stabilization with PS biocomplex under experimental model of diabetes. Stabilized basis for functional food product were received in several ways: by adding to control suspension a surface-active PS biocomplex in concentrations of 0.00001 g/ml, 0.00002 g/ml, 0.00003 g/ml per 1 ml suspension and by using yacons root tubers powder that were pre-mixed with PS biocomplex in the concentration of 0.00001 g/ml of water. It was shown that both methods of obtaining stable substances for functional foods ensure getting the aggregation stable suspensions. Application method of PS biocomplex do not particularly affect a stability of the studied substances, but preliminary addition of PS biocomplex to the powder is convenient for development of biological preparations encapsulated forms manufacturing technology. Addition of PS biocomplex to the suspension of yacons’ root tubers allows increasing the accuracy of substance dosing and increasing bioavailability of bioactive substances, that was indicated by more severe hypoglycemic effect of a suspension stabilized form
