Molten Salt Thermal Energy Storage Systems
The feasibility of storing thermal energy at temperatures of 450 C to 535 C in the form of latent heat of fusion was examined for over 30 inorganic salts and salt mixtures. Alkali carbonate mixtures were chosen as phase-change storage materials in this temperature range because of their relatively high storage capacity and thermal conductivity, moderate cost, low volumetric expansion upon melting, low corrosivity, and good chemical stability. Pair formation and collapse in imbalanced Fermion populations with unequal masses
We present an exact Quantum Monte Carlo study of the effect of unequal masses
on pair formation in Fermionic systems with population imbalance loaded into
optical lattices. We have considered three forms of the attractive interaction
and find in all cases that the system is unstable and collapses as the mass
difference increases and that the ground state becomes an inhomogeneous
collapsed state. We also address the question of canonical vs grand canonical
ensemble and its role, if any, in stabilizing certain phases
On Some Geometric Structures Associated to a k-Symplectic Manifold
A canonical connection is attached to any k-symplectic manifold. We study the
properties of this connection and its geometric applications to k-symplectic
manifolds. In particular we prove that, under some natural assumption, any
ksymplectic manifold admits an Ehresmann connection, discussing some
corollaries of this result, and we find vanishing theorems for characteristic

Despite their popularity, on-line games and Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games in particular are still a comparatively under-researched area in the fields of both Education and more broadly Youth Studies. Drawing on a Five year ethnographic study, this paper considers the ways that young people use the virtual spaces offered by MMORPGs. This paper suggests that MMORPGs represent significant arenas within which young people act out a range of social narratives through gaming. It argues that MMORPG have become important fantasy spaces which offer young people possibilities to engage in what were formally material practices. Although this form of play is grounded in the everyday it also extends material practices and offers new and unique forms of symbolic experimentation, thus I argue that game-play narratives cannot be divorced from the everyday lives of their participants
Youth at Risk: Part 1, 2012 Massachusetts Family Impact Seminar
The youth of Massachusetts are of primary concern to legislators and citizens. This briefing report features three essays by experts â Lisa Jones, Ramon Borges-Mendez, and Janis Wolak â who focus on three aspects of youth wellbeing: youth victimization and other indicators of psychological health, youth unemployment, and online sexual predators of youth. Although youth well-being is of primary concern, the worrisome stories about crimes against children that regularly fill the media have unfortunately obscured some more positive news from statistical reports on these same issues. Child victimizations of various types â i.e., child sexual abuse, witnessing domestic violence, child physical abuse, sexual assaults of teenagers, physical assaults and robberies of teenagers, and homicides of teenagers â have been declining nationwide and in Massachusetts since the early 1990s, in some cases declining dramatically
âI h 8 uâ: Findings from a five-year study of text and e-mail bullying

The final version of this article is available at the link below.This study charts reports of nasty or threatening text and e-mail messages received by students in academic years 7 and 8 (11-13 years of age) attending 13 secondary schools in the North of England between 2002-2006. Annual surveys were undertaken on behalf of the local education authority (LEA) to monitor bullying. Results indicated that, over five years, the number of pupils receiving one or more nasty or threatening text messages or e-mails increased significantly, particularly among girls. However, receipt of frequent nasty or threatening text and e-mail messages remained relatively stable. For boys, being a victim of direct-physical bullying was associated with receiving nasty or threatening text and e-mail messages; for girls it was being unpopular among peers. Boys received more hate-related messages and girls were primarily the victims of name-calling, Findings are discussed with respect to theoretical and policy developments, and recommendations for future research are offered
Magnetic moments of short-lived nuclei with part-per-million accuracy: Towards novel applications of -detected NMR in physics, chemistry and biology
We determine for the first time the magnetic dipole moment of a short-lived
nucleus with part-per-million (ppm) accuracy. To achieve this two orders of
magnitude improvement over previous studies, we implement a number of
innovations into our -detected Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (-NMR)
setup at ISOLDE/CERN. Using liquid samples as hosts we obtain narrow, sub-kHz
linewidth, resonances, while a simultaneous in-situ H NMR measurement
allows us to calibrate and stabilize the magnetic field to ppm precision, thus
eliminating the need for additional -NMR reference measurements.
Furthermore, we use ab initio calculations of NMR shielding constants to
improve the accuracy of the reference magnetic moment, thus removing a large
systematic error. We demonstrate the potential of this combined approach with
the 1.1 s half-life radioactive nucleus Na, which is relevant for
biochemical studies. Our technique can be readily extended to other isotopic
chains, providing accurate magnetic moments for many short-lived nuclei.
Furthermore, we discuss how our approach can open the path towards a wide range
of applications of the ultra-sensitive -NMR in physics, chemistry, and
