    Comparing phenomenological recipes with a microscopic model for the electric amplitude in strangeness photoproduction

    Corrections to the Born approximation in photo-induced strangeness production off a proton are calculated in a semi-realistic microscopic model. The vertex corrections and internal contributions to the amplitude of the γp→K+Λ\gamma p \to K^+ \Lambda reaction are included on the one-loop level. Different gauge-invariant phenomenological prescriptions for the modification of the Born contribution via the introduction of form factors and contact terms are discussed. In particular, it is shown that the popular minimal-substitution method of Ohta corresponds to a special limit of the more realistic approach.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures in the tex

    Measures of self-regulation used in adult rehabilitation populations:A systematic review and content screening

    Objective We aimed to identify generic measures of self-regulation and to examine the degree to which these measures fit a recently developed conceptual model of self-regulation in a rehabilitation context. Data sources Pubmed, Embase, PsycInfo, and CINAHL were searched. Review methods Articles were included if they were published between January 2015 and August 2020 and reported on empirical studies (trials and observational studies) using a measure of self-regulation or a related concept, in an adult rehabilitation population. Main content was analysed by linking all items of the selected measures to one or more of the six sub-themes of self-regulation: (1) insight into physical and cognitive impairments, (2) insight into the consequences of the impairments, (3) insight into abilities, (4) to be able to communicate limitations, (5) trust in body and functioning, and (6) make use of abilities. Results Two reviewers independently screened 7808 abstracts, resulting in the inclusion of 236 articles. In these articles, 80 different measures were used to assess self-regulation or related concept. Nineteen of these measures met the inclusion criteria and were included for the content analyses. Nine of these were self-efficacy measures. No measures covered four or more of the six sub-themes of self-regulation. The three sub-themes on gaining insights were covered less compared to the sub-domains 'trust' and 'make use of abilities'. Conclusions Many measures on self-regulation exist None of these measures cover all six sub-themes of self-regulation considered important to measure self-regulation as a rehabilitation outcome

    Boson-conserving one-nucleon transfer operator in the interacting boson model

    The boson-conserving one-nucleon transfer operator in the interacting boson model (IBA) is reanalyzed. Extra terms are added to the usual form used for that operator. These new terms change generalized seniority by one unit, as the ones considered up to now. The results obtained using the new form for the transfer operator are compared with those obtained with the traditional form in a simple case involving the pseudo-spin Bose-Fermi symmetry UB(6)⊗UF(12)U^{B}(6) \otimes U^F(12) in its UBF(5)⊗UF(2)U^{BF}(5) \otimes U^F(2) limit. Sizeable differences are found. These results are of relevance in the study of transfer reactions to check nuclear supersymmetry and in the description of (\beta)-decay within IBA.Comment: 13 pages, 1 table, 0 figures.     AUC-guided dosing of tacrolimus prevents progressive systemic overexposure in renal transplant recipients.BackgroundTacrolimus has a narrow therapeutic window, and bioavailability is known to vary considerably between renal transplant recipients. Most centers still rely on measurement of trough levels, but there are conflicting reports on the correlation between tacrolimus trough levels and systemic exposure, as measured by the area-under-the-concentration-over-time curve (AUC(0-12h)).MethodsWe developed and validated a two-compartmental population-based pharmacokinetic model with Bayesian estimation of tacrolimus systemic exposure. Subsequently, we used this model to apply prospectively AUC-guided dosing of tacrolimus in 15 consecutive renal transplant recipients. The main objective was to study intrapatient variability in the course of time.ResultsBayesian forecasting with a two-point sampling strategy, a trough level, and a second sample obtained between two and four hours post-dose significantly improved the squared correlation with the AUC(0-12h) (r2= 0.94). Compared with trough level monitoring only, this approach reduced the 95%-prediction interval by 50%. The Bayesian approach proved to be feasible in clinical practice, and provided accurate information about systemic tacrolimus exposure in individual patients. In the AUC-guided dosing cohort the apparent clearance of tacrolimus decreased gradually over time, which was not reflected in corresponding trough levels.ConclusionThis simple, flexible method provides the opportunity to tailor immunosuppression, and should help minimize tacrolimus-related toxicity, such as nephrotoxicity and post-transplant diabetes mellitus

    Virtual-pion and two-photon production in pp scattering

    Two-photon production in pp scattering is proposed as a means of studying virtual-pion emission. Such a process is complementary to real-pion emission in pp scattering. The virtual-pion signal is embedded in a background of double-photon bremsstrahlung. We have developed a model to describe this background process and show that in certain parts of phase space the virtual-pion signal gives significant contribution. In addition, through interference with the two-photon bremsstrahlung background, one can determine the relative phase of the virtual-pion process

    A unitary model for meson-nucleon scattering

    In an effective Lagrangian model employing the K-matrix approximation we extract nucleon resonance parameters. To this end we analyze simultaneously all available data for reactions involving the final states πN\pi N, ππN\pi\pi N, ηN\eta N and KΛK \Lambda in the energy range mN+mπ≤s≤1.9m_N + m_{\pi} \le \sqrt s \le 1.9 GeV. The background contributions are generated consistently from the relevant Feynman amplitudes, thus significantly reducing the number of free parameters.Comment: Revised version. 60 pages, 17 figures.     Numerical study of anharmonic vibrational decay in amorphous and paracrystalline silicon

    The anharmonic decay rates of atomic vibrations in amorphous silicon (a-Si) and paracrystalline silicon (p-Si), containing small crystalline grains embedded in a disordered matrix, are calculated using realistic structural models. The models are 1000-atom four-coordinated networks relaxed to a local minimum of the Stillinger-Weber interatomic potential. The vibrational decay rates are calculated numerically by perturbation theory, taking into account cubic anharmonicity as the perturbation. The vibrational lifetimes for a-Si are found to be on picosecond time scales, in agreement with the previous perturbative and classical molecular dynamics calculations on a 216-atom model. The calculated decay rates for p-Si are similar to those of a-Si. No modes in p-Si reside entirely on the crystalline cluster, decoupled from the amorphous matrix. The localized modes with the largest (up to 59%) weight on the cluster decay primarily to two diffusons. The numerical results are discussed in relation to a recent suggestion by van der Voort et al. [Phys. Rev. B {\bf 62}, 8072 (2000)] that long vibrational relaxation inferred experimentally may be due to possible crystalline nanostructures in some types of a-Si.Comment: 9 two-column pages, 13 figure
