    Strong mass effect on ion beam mixing in metal bilayers

    Molecular dynamics simulations have been used to study the mechanism of ion beam mixing in metal bilayers. We are able to explain the ion induced low-temperature phase stability and melting behavior of bilayers using only a simple ballistic picture up to 10 keV ion energies. The atomic mass ratio of the overlayer and the substrate constituents seems to be a key quantity in understanding atomic mixing. The critical bilayer mass ratio of δ<0.33\delta < 0.33 is required for the occurrence of a thermal spike (local melting) with a lifetime of τ>0.3\tau > 0.3 ps at low-energy ion irradiation (1 keV) due to a ballistic mechanism.     Introduction: Examined Live – An Epistemological Exchange Between Philosophy and Cultural Psychology on Reflection

    Besides the general agreement about the human capability of reflection, there is a large area of disagreement and debate about the nature and value of “reflective scrutiny” and the role of “second-order states” in everyday life. This problem has been discussed in a vast and heterogeneous literature about topics such as epistemic injustice, epistemic norms, agency, understanding, meta-cognition etc. However, there is not yet any extensive and interdisciplinary work, specifically focused on the topic of the epistemic value of reflection. This volume is one of the first attempts aimed at providing an innovative contribution, an exchange between philosophy, epistemology and psychology about the place and value of reflection in everyday life. Our goal in the next sections is not to offer an exhaustive overview of recent work on epistemic reflection, nor to mimic all of the contributions made by the chapters in this volume. We will try to highlight some topics that have motivated a new resumption of this field and, with that, drawing on chapters from this volume where relevant. Two elements defined the scope and content of this volume, on the one hand, the crucial contribution of Ernest Sosa, whose works provide original and thought-provoking contributions to contemporary epistemology in setting a new direction for old dilemmas about the nature and value of knowledge, giving a central place to reflection. On the other hand, the recent developments of cultural psychology, in the version of the “Aalborg approach”, reconsider the object and scope of psychological sciences, stressing that “[h]uman conduct is purposeful”

With this goal in mind, PILs were synthesized and their thermal and physical characterization were carried out. Experimental determination of the phase equilibrium for the ternary systems hydrocarbons + ethanol + PIL at 298.15 K and 101.2 kPa were also carried out in order to evaluate the feasibility of this application. The solute distribution ratio and the selectivity were also determined to compare the solvent capacity of these PILs. The NRTL equation was used to correlate the experimental data. Furthermore, this paper provides a comparison of the solvent capacity of these PILs with different extraction solvents (ionic liquids (ILs), ILs mixtures and deep eutectic solvents) available in the literature.     Handwriting and Metacognition: The Relationship Between Self-Reflection and Penmanship

    The majority of school-based occupational therapy (OT) referrals are for handwriting. In fact, fine motor and handwriting concerns affecting educational performance make up 80-85% of OT referrals in schools. Occupational therapists use an abundance of interventions for remediating handwriting difficulties, but there is scant evidence of why specific strategies or combinations of strategies are effective. Cognitive interventions have shown to be successful in the treatment of handwriting. Metacognitive skill, a component of cognition, allows a child to self-monitor and self-reflect on his or her handwriting skills to correct mistakes and generate goals for improvement. Therefore, a child’s ability to self-reflect on handwriting is likely an important factor when strengthening the learning and use of handwriting. Having insight into a child’s reflection of his or her handwriting abilities will also assist occupational therapists in creating an appropriate and effective handwriting intervention.     Sorption of fluorinated greenhouse gases in silica-supported fluorinated ionic liquids

Publisher Copyright: © 2022 The Authors.The Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol limits the global use of fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) and encourages the development of a new generation of refrigerants with lower global warming potential. Therefore, there is a need to develop efficient and sustainable technologies to selectively capture and recycle the F-gases as new environmentally sustainable refrigerants. Here, ionic liquids (ILs) with high F-gas uptake capacity and selectivity were supported on silica and their potential as media for selective F-gas sorption was studied. For this purpose single-component sorption equilibria of difluoromethane (R-32), pentafluoroethane (R-125), and 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (R-134a) were measured at 303.15 K by gravimetry. The sorption data were successfully correlated using classical models of sorption thermodynamics. The results show that the IL supported in the porous volume and on the external surface of the porous silica controls the F-gas uptake in the composites and that changing the IL's cations and anions allows fine-tuning the selectivity of the sorption process.     Absorption of Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases Using Fluorinated Ionic Liquids

FCT/MCTES (UID/QUI/50006/2019).The increasing awareness of the environmental impact of fluorinated gases (F-gases) used in refrigeration is instigating the development of technologies to recover and recycle them. With this goal in mind, single-component absorption equilibrium isotherms at 303.15 K of F-gases in different ionic liquids (ILs) were determined using a gravimetric method. The selected F-gases are the most used in domestic refrigeration (R-32: difluoromethane, R-125: pentafluoroethane, and R-134a: 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane). The results show that ILs containing a fluorinated alkyl side chain with four carbon atoms, that is, fluorinated ILs (FILs), have higher gas absorption capacity than conventional fluoro-containing ILs. All studied ILs showed ideal selectivity toward R-134a. Conventional fluoro-containing ILs showed better selectivities for the separation of the binary mixtures R-134a/R-125 and R-32/R-125, and FILs showed better selectivities for the R-134a/R-32 mixture. These results provide fundamental knowledge of the behavior of these new alternative solvents and key information for their application in the separation of F-gas mixtures of commercial refrigerants.authorsversionpublishe
