Data Mining to Support Engineering Design Decision

    No full text
The design and maintenance of an aero-engine generates a significant amount of documentation. When designing new engines, engineers must obtain knowledge gained from maintenance of existing engines to identify possible areas of concern. Firstly, this paper investigate the use of advanced business intelligence tenchniques to solve the problem of knowledge transfer from maintenance to design of aeroengines. Based on data availability and quality, various models were deployed. An association model was used to uncover hidden trends among parts involved in maintenance events. Classification techniques comprising of various algorithms was employed to determine severity of events. Causes of high severity events that lead to major financial loss was traced with the help of summarization techniques. Secondly this paper compares and evaluates the business intelligence approach to solve the problem of knowledge transfer with solutions available from the Semantic Web. The results obtained provide a compelling need to have data mining support on RDF/OWL-based warehoused data

Hybrids and cultivars of single type tuberose was evaluated to fulfill the need to develop new hybrids as demanded by commercial growers. Evaluation of fifteen genotypes showed significant variation in growth, floral and bulb characters. Cultivar Arka Prajwal was significantly superior over all genotypes, which recorded least number of days for opening of 1st floret (78.55 days) with maximum diameter of spike (1.18 cm), length of floret (6.05 cm), weight of individual floret (3.12 g) and weight of spike (121.43 g).The hybrid genotype L1P4 (Variegated X Phule Rajani) was observed to be superior in terms of rachis length (39.78 cm), inter-nodal length (7.25 cm), length of bulb (8.09 cm), diameter of bulb (3.76 cm) and diameter of bulb-lets (1.85 cm). Among the hybrid genotypes L1P4 also recorded maximum plant height (116.39 cm), spike length (109.58 cm), weight of cut spike (105.08 g) and vase life (11.00 days). However, it was foundto be at par for number of florets per spike (57.25), length of floret (5.92 cm) and number of spikes per clump (10.14) with all other cultivars and hybrids tested. From the overall performance, it was found that the cultivar Arka Prajwal was the best. Genotype L1P4 found promising for loose as well as cut flower production because of its number of florets, inter-nodal length and spikes per clump which are important characters considering loose flower for taking maximum number of pickings. However, characters such as rachis length, spike length, vase life and weight of spike which are imperative for cut flowers are also noted superior in genotype L1P4

Energy Metering by using Power Line Communication

Everywhere automation is needed to reduce the work. We decided to put in to practice the meter reading using power line communication. It can be measure real time and also save the time. It had better user interface and digital data analysis. Data was send over existing carrier by using power line that's minimizes the complexity and cost of system. Energy meter reading was a monotonous and costly work. The meter reader people run through each meter and catch the meter reading manually to issue the bill which will later be entered in the billing software for payment automation. If the manual meter reading and bill data entry process can be automated then it minimizes the hard task and financial wastage system. It was used for data collecting from the meter and processing the collected data for billing and other decision purposes. We had proposed an automatic meter reading system which was low cost, high performance and cover highest coverage area. In the data receiving and processing unit meter reading was collected from the transceiver which controlled by another microcontroller. There was computer application that will take the data from the microcontroller. This was help to avoid any tampering or break down of energy. DOI: 10.17762/ijritcc2321-8169.15027

Orif of lateral Hoffa's fracture with irreducible patella dislocation and incarcerated patella in lateral Hoffa's fragment: rare injury presentation

Majority of lateral Hoffa fracture are associated with knee injury. Presenting a case of 30-years-old gentleman who presented with pain, swelling, deformity in knee of right side after road traffic accident.  On local examination there was marked swelling with inability to palpate patella, inability to flex knee. On clinical examination, there was patella dislocation as it was not in place and unable to reduce. Radiological investigation showed a lateral Hoffa's fracture with dislocation of patella and patella being incarcerated in Hoffa fragment. Operative and follow up: Patient was operated by open reduction of patella dislocation and CC screw fixation for lateral Hoffa fracture. On six weeks follow up normal ROM achieved. Patient was surgically treated to relocate locked patella fragment in Hoffa's fragment and fix Hoffa's fragment and achieved good range of motion

A preclinical model for identifying rats at risk of alcohol use disorder.

Alcohol use is one of the world's leading causes of death and disease, although only a small proportion of individuals develop persistent alcohol use disorder (AUD). The identification of vulnerable individuals prior to their chronic intoxication remains of highest importance. We propose here to adapt current methodologies for identifying rats at risk of losing control over alcohol intake by modeling diagnostic criteria for AUD: inability to abstain during a signaled period of reward unavailability, increased motivation assessed in a progressive effortful task and persistent alcohol intake despite aversive foot shocks. Factor analysis showed that these three addiction criteria loaded on one underlying construct indicating that they represent a latent construct of addiction trait. Further, not only vulnerable rats displayed higher ethanol consumption, and higher preference for ethanol over sweetened solutions, but they also exhibited pre-existing higher anxiety as compared to resilient rats. In conclusion, the present preclinical model confirms that development of an addiction trait not only requires prolonged exposure to alcohol, but also depends on endophenotype like anxiety that predispose a minority of individuals to lose control over alcohol consumption

Spherical Casimir energies and Dedekind sums

Casimir energies on space-times having general lens spaces as their spatial sections are shown to be given in terms of generalised Dedekind sums related to Zagier's. These are evaluated explicitly in certain cases as functions of the order of the lens space. An easily implemented recursion approach is used.Comment: 18 pages, 2 figures, v2:typos corrected, inessential equation in Discussion altered. v3:typos corrected, 1 reference and comments added. v4:typos corrected. Effect of Sodium Valproate pretreatment on Apomorphine and Dexamphetamine induced Stereotyped Behavior in rats.

Sodium valproate a broad spectrum antiepileptic elevates the brain GABA levels. Studies have suggested regulatory role of GABA on dopaminergic neurons, which is evident by behavioral studies in animals that reveal functional interaction between GABAergic and DAergic systems. Hyperfunctioning of DAergic system in rats is responsible for occurrence of stereotyped behavior (SB) in them. Drugs like apomorphine (Apo) and amphetamine induce SB by acting directly or indirectly. GABA, by acting at different sites has shown to influence the dopaminergically mediated behaviors. Hence the study was taken up to investigate the effect of sodium valproate pretreatment on apomorphine and dexamphetamine induced SB in rats. Pretreatment with 100 to 400mg/kg sodium valproate did not antagonize the apomorphine induced SB, however pretreatment with 100 to 400mg/kg sodium valproate significantly antagonized SB induced by 10 & 15mg/kg dexamphetamine
