Rotor-to-stator rub vibration in centrifugal compressor

    Get PDF
One example of excessive vibration encountered during loading of a centrifugal compressor train (H type compressor with HP casing) is discussed. An investigation was made of the effects of the dynamic load on the bearing stiffness and the rotor-bearing system critical speed. The high vibration occurred at a "threshold load," but the machine didn't run smoothly due to rubs even when it had passed through the threshold load. The acquisition and discussion of the data taken in the field as well as a description of the case history which utilizes background information to identify the malfunction conditions is presented. The analysis shows that the failures, including full reverse precession rub and exact one half subharmonic vibration, were caused by the oversize bearings and displacement of the rotor center due to foundation deformation and misalignment between gear shafts, etc. The corrective actions taken to alleviate excessive vibration and the problems which remain to be solved are also presented

Quantum secret sharing between multiparty and multiparty with four states

An protocol of quantum secret sharing between multiparty and multiparty with four states is presented. We show that this protocol can make the Trojan horse attack with a multi-photon signal, the fake-signal attack with EPR pairs, the attack with single photons, and the attack with invisible photons to be nullification. In addition, we also give the upper bounds of the average success probabilities for dishonest agent eavesdropping encryption using the fake-signal attack with any two-particle entangled states.Comment: 7 page

Surface phase separation in nanosized charge-ordered manganites

Recent experiments showed that the robust charge-ordering in manganites can be weakened by reducing the grain size down to nanoscale. Weak ferromagnetism was evidenced in both nanoparticles and nanowires of charge-ordered manganites. To explain these observations, a phenomenological model based on surface phase separation is proposed. The relaxation of superexchange interaction on the surface layer allows formation of a ferromagnetic shell, whose thickness increases with decreasing grain size. Possible exchange bias and softening of the ferromagnetic transition in nanosized charge-ordered manganites are predicted.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

The missing link between thermodynamics and structure in F_1-ATPase

F_1F_o-ATP synthase is the enzyme responsible for most of the ATP synthesis in living systems. The catalytic domain F_1 of the F_1F_o complex, F_1-ATPase, has the ability to hydrolyze ATP. A fundamental problem in the development of a detailed mechanism for this enzyme is that it has not been possible to determine experimentally the relation between the ligand binding affinities measured in solution and the different conformations of the catalytic β subunits (β_(TP), β_(DP), β_E) observed in the crystal structures of the mitochondrial enzyme, MF_1. Using free energy difference simulations for the hydrolysis reaction ATP+H_2O → ADP+P_i in the β_(TP) and β_(DP) sites and unisite hydrolysis data, we are able to identify β_(TP) as the “tight” (K_D = 10^(−12) M, MF_1) binding site for ATP and β_(DP) as the “loose” site. An energy decomposition analysis demonstrates how certain residues, some of which have been shown to be important in catalysis, modulate the free energy of the hydrolysis reaction in the β_(TP) and β_(DP) sites, even though their structures are very similar. Combined with the recently published simulations of the rotation cycle of F_1-ATPase, the present results make possible a consistent description of the binding change mechanism of F_1-ATPase at an atomic level of detail

A Simultaneous Quantum Secure Direct Communication Scheme between the Central Party and Other M Parties

We propose a simultaneous quantum secure direct communication scheme between one party and other three parties via four-particle GHZ states and swapping quantum entanglement. In the scheme, three spatially separated senders, Alice, Bob and Charlie, transmit their secret messages to a remote receiver Diana by performing a series local operations on their respective particles according to the quadripartite stipulation. From Alice, Bob, Charlie and Diana's Bell measurement results, Diana can infer the secret messages. If a perfect quantum channel is used, the secret messages are faithfully transmitted from Alice, Bob and Charlie to Diana via initially shared pairs of four-particle GHZ states without revealing any information to a potential eavesdropper. As there is no transmission of the qubits carrying the secret message in the public channel, it is completely secure for the direct secret communication. This scheme can be considered as a network of communication parties where each party wants to communicate secretly with a central party or server.Comment: 4 pages, no figur

On the nature of radiative recombination in GaAsN

    No full text
Radiative recombination at low temperatures in GaAsN is often associated with localized excitons. In this short note, we report results from high-resolution time-resolvedphotoluminescencespectroscopy that indicate that excitons, localized or otherwise, cannot be involved in the recombination process of this alloy system. The risetime of the photoluminescence signal is more than two orders of magnitude shorter than that expected, and found from excitonic recombination in other III–V materials, such as GaAs. We suggest that the radiative recombination in GaAsN takes place between localized electrons and delocalized holes

A geometric description of the non-Gaussianity generated at the end of multi-field inflation

In this paper we mainly focus on the curvature perturbation generated at the end of multi-field inflation, such as the multi-brid inflation. Since the curvature perturbation is produced on the super-horizon scale, the bispectrum and trispectrum have a local shape. The size of bispectrum is measured by fNLf_{NL} and the trispectrum is characterized by two parameters τNL\tau_{NL} and gNLg_{NL}. For simplicity, the trajectory of inflaton is assumed to be a straight line in the field space and then the entropic perturbations do not contribute to the curvature perturbation during inflation. As long as the background inflaton path is not orthogonal to the hyper-surface for inflation to end, the entropic perturbation can make a contribution to the curvature perturbation at the end of inflation and a large local-type non-Gaussiantiy is expected. An interesting thing is that the non-Gaussianity parameters are completely determined by the geometric properties of the hyper-surface of the end of inflation. For example, fNLf_{NL} is proportional to the curvature of the curve on this hyper-surface along the adiabatic direction and gNLg_{NL} is related to the change of the curvature radius per unit arc-length of this curve. Both fNLf_{NL} and gNLg_{NL} can be positive or negative respectively, but τNL\tau_{NL} must be positive and not less than (65fNL)2({6\over 5}f_{NL})^2.Comment: 19 pages, 4 figures; refs added; a correction to \tau_{NL} for n-field inflation added, version accepted for publication in JCA

    The trispectrum in ghost inflation

We calculate the trispectrum in ghost inflation where both the contact diagram and scale-exchange diagram are taken into account. The shape of trispectrum is discussed carefully and we find that the local form is absent in ghost inflation. In general, for the non-local shape trispectrum there are not analogous parameters to τNLloc.\tau_{NL}^{loc.} and gNLloc.g_{NL}^{loc.} which can completely characterize the size of local form trispectrum.Comment: 19 pages, 8 figures; clarifications and corrections added, version accepted for publication in JCA

Probabilistic teleportation of unknown two-particle state via POVM

We propose a scheme for probabilistic teleportation of unknown two-particle state with partly entangled four-particle state via POVM. In this scheme the teleportation of unknown two-particle state can be realized with certain probability by performing two Bell state measurements, a proper POVM and a unitary transformation.Comment: 5 pages, no figur
