Cultural resource directory with activities : a model based on the Spanish-speaking influences in the state of Tennessee

This study was conducted to identify and catalogue cultural resources of Spanish-speaking origin in Tennessee. The compilation of cultural resources is designed as a directory. This directory is intended to provide foreign language educators with a helpful and convenient reference guide containing information on the availability of resources that can help them enrich classroom instruction. It is meant to be useful as well to all persons who are concerned with the study or advancement of foreign languages and cultures. This directory is divided into five parts; review of the related literature, methods, cultural resources, suggested activities, and summary. The data for this directory were collected by reviewing the related literature, visiting libraries, searching the Internet; employing telephone directories, interviewing community members, visiting educational institutions and private and government offices, and attending conferences and special events. The resulting resources are organized under headings and subheadings in alphabetical order. The activities section cross-references each activity to a resource in the directory. This study revealed numerous cultural resources of Spanish-speaking origin in Tennessee that offer the potential for innovation in teaching Spanish

Equivalent Circuit for Double Annular Aperture Frequency Selective Surfaces

In this work a double annular aperture frequency selective surface is analyzed from an equivalent circuit perspective. A comparison between full wave numerical solution and the proposed equivalent circuit results is provided for different examples. A very good agreement is obtained endowing the equivalent circuit with great potential as a very powerful and efficient design tool for advanced space filters

Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals in a Market of Bolivian Immigrants in Buenos Aires (Argentina)

This paper presents the results of a research in urban ethnobotany, conducted in a market of Bolivian immigrants in the neighborhood of Liniers, Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires (Argentina). Functional foods and nutraceuticals belonging to 50 species of 18 families, its products, and uses were recorded. Some products are exclusive from the Bolivian community; others are frequent within the community, but they are also available in the general commercial circuit; they are introduced into it, generally, through shops called dietéticas (“health-food stores”), where products associated with the maintenance of health are sold. On this basis, the traditional and nontraditional components of the urban botanical knowledge were evaluated as well as its dynamics in relation to the diffusion of the products. Both the framework and methodological design are innovative for the studies of the urban botanical knowledge and the traditional markets in metropolitan areas
