Microscopic analysis of the microscopic reversibility in quantum systems

We investigate the robustness of the microscopic reversibility in open quantum systems which is discussed by Monnai [arXiv:1106.1982 (2011)]. We derive an exact relation between the forward transition probability and the reversed transition probability in the case of a general measurement basis. We show that the microscopic reversibility acquires some corrections in general and discuss the physical meaning of the corrections. Under certain processes, some of the correction terms vanish and we numerically confirmed that the remaining correction term becomes negligible; the microscopic reversibility almost holds even when the local system cannot be regarded as macroscopic.Comment: 12 pages, 10 figure

Tridiagonal pairs and the quantum affine algebra Uq(sl 2)

Let double-struck K denote an algebraically closed field and let q denote a nonzero scalar in double-struck K that is not a root of unity. Let V denote a vector space over double-struck K with finite positive dimension and let A, A* denote a tridiagonal pair on V. Let θ0, θ1,..., θd (resp. θ0*, θ1*,..., θd*) denote a standard ordering of the eigenvalues of A (resp. A*). We assume there exist nonzero scalars a, a* in double-struck K such that θi = aq 2i-d and θi* = a*qd-2i for 0 ≤ i ≤ d. We display two irreducible Uq(sl2)-module structures on V and discuss how these are related to the actions of A and A*. © 2006 Springer Science + Business Media, LLC

q-Inverting pairs of linear transformations and the q-tetrahedron algebra

金沢大学大学院自然科学研究科計算科学金沢大学理学部As part of our study of the q-tetrahedron algebra {squared times}q we introduce the notion of a q-inverting pair. Roughly speaking, this is a pair of invertible semisimple linear transformations on a finite-dimensional vector space, each of which acts on the eigenspaces of the other according to a certain rule. Our main result is a bijection between the following two sets: (i) the isomorphism classes of finite-dimensional irreducible {squared times}q-modules of type 1; (ii) the isomorphism classes of q-inverting pairs. © 2007 Elsevier Inc. Polarised target for Drell-Yan experiment in COMPASS at CERN, part I

In the polarised Drell-Yan experiment at the COMPASS facility in CERN pion beam with momentum of 190 GeV/c and intensity about 10810^8 pions/s interacted with transversely polarised NH3_3 target. Muon pairs produced in Drel-Yan process were detected. The measurement was done in 2015 as the 1st ever polarised Drell-Yan fixed target experiment. The hydrogen nuclei in the solid-state NH3_3 were polarised by dynamic nuclear polarisation in 2.5 T field of large-acceptance superconducting magnet. Large helium dilution cryostat was used to cool the target down below 100 mK. Polarisation of hydrogen nuclei reached during the data taking was about 80 %. Two oppositely polarised target cells, each 55 cm long and 4 cm in diameter were used. Overview of COMPASS facility and the polarised target with emphasis on the dilution cryostat and magnet is given. Results of the polarisation measurement in the Drell-Yan run and overviews of the target material, cell and dynamic nuclear polarisation system are given in the part II.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, Proceedings of the 22nd International Spin Symposium, Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, USA, 25-30 September 201

Deterioration of red blood cell mechanical properties is reduced in anaerobic storage

Background Hypothermic storage of red blood cells (RBCs) results in progressive deterioration of the rheological properties of the cells, which may reduce the efficacy of RBC transfusions. Recent studies have suggested that storing RBC units under anaerobic conditions may reduce this storage-induced deterioration. Materials and methods The aim of this study was to compare the rheological properties of conventionally and anaerobically stored RBC and provide a measure of the relationship between oxidative damage to stored RBC and their ability to perfuse microvascular networks. Three different microfluidic devices were used to measure the ability of both types of stored RBC to perfuse artificial microvascular networks. Flow rates of the RBC passing through the entire network (bulk perfusion) and the individual capillaries (capillary perfusion) of the devices were measured on days 2, 21, 42, and 63 of storage. Results The bulk perfusion rates for anaerobically stored RBC were significantly higher than for conventionally stored RBCs over the entire duration of storage for all devices (up to 10% on day 42; up to 14% on day 63). Capillary perfusion rates suggested that anaerobically stored RBC units contained significantly fewer non-deformable RBC capable of transiently plugging microfluidic device capillaries. The number of plugging events caused by these non-deformable RBC increased over the 63 days of hypothermic storage by nearly 16- to 21-fold for conventionally stored units, and by only about 3- to 6-fold for anaerobically stored units. Discussion The perfusion measurements suggest that anaerobically stored RBC retain a greater ability to perfuse networks of artificial capillaries compared to conventionally (aerobically) stored RBC. It is likely that anaerobic storage confers this positive effect on the bulk mechanical properties of stored RBC by significantly reducing the number of non-deformable cells present in the overall population of relatively well-preserved RBC

Formation of two-dimensional weak localization in conducting Langmuir-Blodgett films

We report the magnetotransport properties up to 7 T in the organic highly conducting Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) films formed by a molecular association of the electroactive donor molecule bis(ethylendioxy)tetrathiafulvalene (BEDO-TTF) and stearic acid CH3_3(CH2_2)16_{16}COOH. We show the logarithmic decrease of dc conductivity and the negative transverse magnetoresistance at low temperature. They are interpreted in the weak localization of two-dimensional (2D) electronic system based on the homogeneous conducting layer with the molecular size thickness of BEDO-TTF. The electronic length with phase memory is given at the mesoscopic scale, which provides for the first time evidence of the 2D coherent charge transport in the conducting LB films.Comment: 5 pages, 1 Table and 5 figure

Stereotaxic injection of a viral vector for conditional gene manipulation in the mouse spinal cord.

Intraparenchymal injection of a viral vector enables conditional gene manipulation in distinct populations of neurons or particular regions of the central nervous system. We demonstrate a stereotaxic injection technique that allows targeted gene expression or silencing in the dorsal horn of the mouse spinal cord. The surgical procedure is brief. It requires laminectomy of a single vertebra, providing for quick recovery of the animal and unimpaired motility of the spine. Controlled injection of a small vector suspension volume at low speed and use of a microsyringe with beveled glass cannula minimize the tissue lesion. The local immune response to the vector depends on the intrinsic properties of the virus employed; in our experience, it is minor and short-lived when a recombinant adeno-associated virus is used. A reporter gene such as enhanced green fluorescent protein facilitates monitoring spatial distribution of the vector, and the efficacy and cellular specificity of the transfection.journal articleresearch support, n.i.h., extramuralvideo-audio media2013 Mar 182013 03 18importe
