Vanishing chiral couplings in the large-N_C resonance theory
The construction of a resonance theory involving hadrons requires
implementing the information from higher scales into the couplings of the
effective Lagrangian. We consider the large-Nc chiral resonance theory
incorporating scalars and pseudoscalars, and we find that, by imposing LO
short-distance constraints on form factors of QCD currents constructed within
this theory, the chiral low-energy constants satisfy resonance saturation at

Deposition of general ellipsoidal particles
We present a systematic overview of granular deposits composed of ellipsoidal
particles with different particle shapes and size polydispersities. We study
the density and anisotropy of such deposits as functions of size polydispersity
and two shape parameters that fully describe the shape of a general ellipsoid.
Our results show that, while shape influences significantly the macroscopic
properties of the deposits, polydispersity plays apparently a secondary role.
The density attains a maximum for a particular family of non-symmetrical
ellipsoids, larger than the density observed for prolate or oblate ellipsoids.
As for anisotropy measures, the contact forces show are increasingly preferred
along the vertical direction as the shape of the particles deviates for a
sphere. The deposits are constructed by means of an efficient molecular
dynamics method, where the contact forces are efficiently and accurately
computed. The main results are discussed in the light of applications for
porous media models and sedimentation processes.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figure
Economic growth and obesity in South African adults: an ecological analysis between 1994 and 2014
Abstract: To assess the trend associations between South Africaâs economic growth using various economic growth indicators (EGIs) with adult obesity prevalence over a specified period of time. Methods: Data for obesity levels reported was obtained from national surveys conducted in South African adults between the periods of 1994 to 2014. EGIs incorporated in the current analysis were obtained from the World Bank and IHS Global insight databases. Obesity prevalence is presented by gender, urbanisation level and ethnicity. EGIs congruent to the time points where obesity data are available are presented. Unadjusted time trend plots were applied to assess associations between obesity prevalence and EGIs by gender, urbanisation level and ethnicity. Results: Females present higher levels of obesity relative to males for all time points. For both males and females, an overall increase in prevalence was observed in both rural and urban settings overâtime, with urban dwellers presenting higher obesity levels. An overall increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita and Household Final Consumption Expenditure (HFCE) per capita was observed. A Critique of Current Magnetic-Accretion Models for Classical T-Tauri Stars
Current magnetic-accretion models for classical T-Tauri stars rely on a
strong, dipolar magnetic field of stellar origin to funnel the disk material
onto the star, and assume a steady-state. In this paper, I critically examine
the physical basis of these models in light of the observational evidence and
our knowledge of magnetic fields in low-mass stars, and find it lacking.
I also argue that magnetic accretion onto these stars is inherently a
time-dependent problem, and that a steady-state is not warranted.
Finally, directions for future work towards fully-consistent models are
