Probing the strange Higgs coupling at lepton colliders using light-jet flavor tagging

We propose a method to probe the coupling of the Higgs to strange quarks by tagging strange jets at future lepton colliders. For this purpose we describe a jet-flavor observable, JFJ_F, that is correlated with the flavor of the quark associated with the hard part of the jet. Using this variable, we set up a strangeness tagger aimed at studying the decay hssˉh\to s\bar{s}. We determine the sensitivity of our method to the strange Yukawa coupling, and find it to be of the order of the standard-model expectation.Comment: 6 pages, v2 accepted for publication in PR

Empowered but not Equal: Challenging the Traditional Gender Roles as Seen by University Students in Saudi Arabia

    Get PDF
This study examines perspectives of Saudi university students regarding changing gender roles as affected by women’s rights, education, employment, and activity in the public sphere. Results from a questionnaire distributed among 4,455 male and female students indicate students are confident and optimistic about improving gender equity, however resistance from those holding traditional views still exist. Female respondents are more optimistic than male respondents, seeing changes in gender roles as advantageous to their personal and professional lives. Representing a group of allies, a majority of male students regard changing gender roles positively. Men and women reported personal courage to address these challenges, which is an asset moving forward. While approval will never reach consensus, changes may be forthcoming. By surveying the Saudi university population, this study seeks to inform strategy and policy. Gender equity is only possible through increased societal acceptance of women’s freedom in their everyday lives

The CLIC Potential for New Physics

    Get PDF
The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) is a mature option for the future of high energy physics. It combines the benefits of the clean environment of e+ee^+e^- colliders with operation at high centre-of-mass energies, allowing to probe scales beyond the reach of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) for many scenarios of new physics. This places the CLIC project at a privileged spot in between the precision and energy frontiers, with capabilities that will significantly extend knowledge on both fronts at the end of the LHC era. In this report we review and revisit the potential of CLIC to search, directly and indirectly, for physics beyond the Standard Model
