In vitro sensitivity pattern of some urinary tract isolates to Carica papaya extracts
Powdered leaves of Carica papaya(L.) were extracted with ethanol and partitioned in chloroform and distilled water. The extract and fractions were tested for antibacterial activity against clinical isolates of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis and Pseudomonas species using disc diffusion and microbroth dilution technique. The extract and fractions were further subjected to phytochemical tests for the presence of secondary metabolites using standard procedures. Results of sensitivity test results showed that ethanol extract of the leaf was active against E. coli and K. pneumoniae (7mm each) at 1000ÎĽg/disc concentration while chloroform and water fractions of the leaf were active against Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Proteus mirabilis at 1000ÎĽg/disc concentration with zone diameter of 7mm each. Both the extract and fractions were inactive against P. aeruginosa at all concentrations used in this study. The results of phytochemical screening indicated the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids and tannins in either ethanol extract, fraction(s) or both. This indicates that the Carica papaya has the potential for the production of drugs against organisms causing urinary tract infections.

During the period, 76 batches of broilers were reared to point of slaughter. The results shows that the enterprise incurred an average total variable cost of N620,6333.31 out of which feeding cost, day old chicks (stock) and mortality cost represents 58.13%, 19.13% and of 9.64% of the total cost of production, respectively. Total revenue within the period was estimated to be N763,969.44 which was mainly generated from the sales of broiler birds. The gross margin was found to be N143,334.13 with N0.23 as the returns per naira invested in the enterprise. Thus the broiler production is a profitable venture in the study area.Broilers, Income, Investment & Profitability, Livestock Production/Industries,
Laparoscopic salpingectomy and adhesiolysis for concomitant left-sided cornual ectopic gestation and adhesive partial intestinal obstruction: A case report.
Cornual gestation is one of the most hazardous types of ectopic gestation. It carries a significant challenge and a greater maternal mortality risk than ampullary ectopic pregnancy. The diagnosis and treatment are challenging and frequently constitute a medical emergency. Traditionally, the treatment of cornual pregnancy has been hysterectomy or cornual resection at laparotomy. However endoscopic approach is a viable option and consists of conservative techniques such as laparoscopic cornual resection, laparoscopic cornuostomy, laparoscopic salpingectomy or hysteroscopic removal of interstitial ectopic tissue. Case presentation: We report a case of a 28-year-old multipara who had an unruptured left cornual ectopic gestation with moderate pelvic adhesions and concomitant partial intestinal obstruction. She was managed via laparoscopic adhesiolysis and left total salpingectomy. Conclusions: Cornual pregnancy occurs rarely, there is a need for early and prompt diagnosis to prevent potentially fatal complications
An Assessment of Commercial Motorcycle Transport Operators (CMTO) In Zaria Metropolis, Kaduna State
The presence and activities of Commercial Motorcycle Transport Operators (CMTO) is ubiquitous in Zaria metropolis and its growing effects fully felt. Consequently there is the need of a research focusing on its assessment. The aim of this study is to assess the activities of CMTO with a view to positively repositioning and regulating its activities for effectiveness. Accordingly, the researchers utilized primary data via the use of 250questionnaires; collecting data on several research parameters relevant to this study. The study reveals that CMTO activities are indispensable in Zaria metropolis due to their significance in facilitating transportation activities in the study area. The study also shows that the number of people joining the business is on the increase and it is a readilyavailable means of employment in the study area. Majority of the operators have experienced one form of accident or the other and expressed the view that the job is highly risky in nature due to fatal accidents that have led many operators to their premature graves. The study also highlighted some of the problems confronting the CMTOactivities and proffered relevant workable solutions for ameliorating the problems
A Class of Three Stage Implicit Rational Runge-Kutta Schemes for Approximation of Second Order Ordinary Differential Equations
In this paper, 3 – stage Implicit Rational Runge – Kutta methods are derived using Taylor and Binomial series expansion for the direct solution of general second order initial value problems of ordinary differential equations with constant step length. The basic properties of the developed method were investigated and found to be consistent and convergent. The efficiency of the method were tested on some numerical examples and found to give better approximations than the existing methods. Surface Phonon Polariton Modes in Suspended Monolayer Hexagonal Boron Nitrides
Dispersion properties and characteristics of transverse magnetic (TM) and transverse electric (TE) surface phonon polaritons (SPhP) in suspended monolayer hexagonal boron nitrides (hBN) was studied extensively. The analytical results show that the hBN based TM (TE) phonon polaritons exist in restsrahlen bands when imaginary surface conductivity is positive. The effective mode index of TM phonon polaritons is much higher than that of TE phonon polaritons with respective values of ~3000 and ~1.0002 which makes TM SPhP more promising in the practical realization. In addition, the propagation length of TE SPhP is less lossy and surpass that of TM SPhP by factor of 104. This study compares these important properties and sheds more insight into their applications in optical communications, photonics and optoelectronics devices
A photovoltaic system using supercapacitor energy storage for power equilibrium and voltage stability
In a photovoltaic system, a stable voltage and of tolerable power equilibrium is needed. Hence, a dedicated analog charge controller for a storage system which controls energy flow to impose power equilibrium, and therefore, voltage stability on the load is required. We demonstrate here our successful design considerations employing supercapacitors as main energy storage as well as a buffer in a standalone photovoltaic system, incorporating a dedicated supercapacitor charge controller for the first time. Firstly, we demonstrated a photovoltaic system employing supercapacitors as main energy storage as well as a buffer in a standalone photovoltaic system. Secondly, we design a constant voltage maximum power point tracker (MPPT) for peak power extraction from the photovoltaic generator. Thirdly, we incorporated a supercapacitor charge controller for power equilibrium and voltage stability through a dedicated analog charge controller in our design, the first of its kind. Fourthly, we analyzed the use of supercapacitor storage to mitigate disequilibrium between power supply and demands, which, in turn, causes overvoltage or under voltage across the load. Lastly, we then went ahead to demonstrate the control of the energy flow in the system so as to maintain rated voltage across a variant demand load
