    Effects of dietary supplementation of multi-enzyme complex on the energy utilization in rooster and performance of broiler chicks

    Two experiments were conducted to determine the effects of dietary supplementation of REAP® enzyme into corn-soybean diet on the energy utilization in poultry and performance of broiler chicks. In the first experiment, a total of 16 50 weeks adult roosters (ISA-Brown) were divided into 4 groups with 4 birds per replicate and the experimental diets contained the two levels of energy (2650 and 2759 kcal TMEn/kg diet) with 0 or 0.1% REAP® and were subjected to assay of apparent metabolizable energy (AME). In the second experiment, 360 3 days old male broiler chicks (Ross) were divided into 4 groups with 3 replicates of 30 birds per replicate and were assigned at random to one of the four experimental diets containing the two levels of energy (3100 and 2980 kcal TMEn/kg diet) with 0 or 0.1% REAP®. AME value of the high energy groups were significantly higher (p < 0.05) than that of the low energy groups when measured at 28 days. The body weight gain of the birds fed the low energy diet with 0% REAP was lower significantly than those of the other groups (p < 0.05). There were no significant differences in feed intake and feed conversion rate among the treatments. The breast muscle weights of the low energy diet birds were higher than those of the high ones and those of the lower energy group with 0.1% REAP were the highest (p < 0.05). The relative abdominal fat weight was reduced by the dietary REAP (p < 0.05). Percentage duodenum weights of high energy group were higher than those of the low energy group. The intestinal lengths (cm/100 g BW) of low energy diet group without REAP were lower than those of the others (P < 0.05). The results demonstrated that, dietary REAP improved body weight gain and reduced abdominal fats. Therefore, it can be concluded that, dietary supplementation of REAP improves nutritive value of corn-soybean diet in the broiler chicks.Key words: REAP®, broiler chicks, corn-soybean, apparent metabolizable energy (AME)

    Assessing the Physical Activity of Health Volunteers Based on the Pender's Health Promotion Model

    Abstract Aims: Physical inactivity has been identified as the 4th leading risk factor for global mortality causing an estimated of 3.2million deaths per year. This study aimed to assess the physical activity of health volunteers with Pender's Health Promotion Model. Instrument & Methods: This cross-sectional analytical study was performed on 80 health volunteers in Torbat-e-Jam City, Iran, in 2015. A researcher-made questionnaire with the following sections was used to gather data; perceived benefits, perceived barriers, self-efficacy, interpersonal influences, positive emotion, commitment, modeling and competing preferences. SPSS 16 sofware was used to analyze data by independent T, Pearson's correlation coefficient and linear regression tests. Findings: There was no significant difference between the scores according to educational levels, age groups, BMI score, marital status, habitat and experience as a health volunteer duration. Physical activity had positive correlation with perceived benefits, self-efficacy, commitment, positive emotion and situational influences and a negative correlation with perceived barriers. Situational influences, as the strongest predictor of the physical activity, predicted 35.1 of it and then positive emotions predicted 34.7 and self-efficacy predicted 23.4 of physical activity. Conclusion: The level of physical activity in health volunteers of Torbat-e-Jam City, Iran, is not appropriate and is less than moderate

    Effects of &#946-Mannanase on broiler performance, gut morphology and immune system

    An experiment was designed to assess the effects of graded levels of β-mannanase on performance, gut morphology and some blood proteins and leucocytes of broilers provided with diets based on corn and soybean meal. Broiler chickens are divided four group and supplied diet which contains 0, 500, 700, or 900 g/ton β-mannanase. Each treatment contained 4 pen with 15 birds/pen. 900 g/ton β- mannanase supplementation significantly reduced feed intake but did not influenced body weight gain and feed conversion ratio in both finisher and total period. 900 g/ton β-mannanase supplementation increased (P < 0.01) villus height and crypt depth and decreased (P < 0.01) goblet cell number, epithelial thickness and ratio of crypt depth to villus height in different sections of small intestine, suggesting that β-mannanase improves gut morphology in broiler chickens. The addition of β- mannanase at 700 and 900 g/ton to the diets significantly (P < 0.05) reduced jejunal viscosity compared with the control group. β-mannanase did not influence the blood serum proteins (albumin, alpha 1-, alpha 2-, beta and gamma-globulins) eosinophils and monocytes, but the addition β-mannanase increased lymphocyte, and decreased heterophil and heterophil: lymphocyte (H:L) ratio (p < 0.05).     Impact of Performing Health Promotion Model Intervention on Physical Activity of Health Volunteer of Torbat-e-Jam City, Iran

    Abstract Aims: Regular physical activity can reduce the burden of chronic diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, and some cancers, and can prevent early death. This study examined the impact of performing health promotion model intervention on physical activity of the health volunteers. Materials & Methods: This cross-sectional research is part of a three-month Intervening study started in 2015 on 80 health volunteers in Torbat-e Jaam City, Iran, which was selected by multistage random sampling method and participants were divided into two interventional and control groups. A Demographic Questionnaire and The Persian version of International Physical Activity Questionnaire were used to collect data. The data was analyzed in SPSS 16 using independent T, Pearson's correlation coefficient and linear regression tests. Findings: Before the intervention the mean of perceived benefit score was 31.3±4.5 that was evaluated as “good” but self-efficacy and behavior scores were 5.8±4.1 and 912.4±750.8 that were assessed as “poor”. Physical activity had positive correlation with perceived benefits, self-efficacy, commitment, positive, emotion and situational influences and a negative correlation with perceived barriers. Overall 66.8 of the physical activity was predicted by Pender’s Health Promotion Model variables. There was a significant difference between the mean scores of physical activity and other structures of HPM in the experimental group after the intervention and its score before intervention. Conclusion: Educational program based on Pender's health promotion model is effective in improving physical activity of health volunteers

    A review on the role of inositol in aquaculture

    Inositol is usually classified as an essential vitamin for most animals, and is recognised as a part of the B-complex vitamins. Among all other inositol isomer forms, myo-inositol possesses biological activity. It is found in the brain, skeletal, heart, and main reproductive tissues and exists as a structural component of phosphatidylinositol in biological cell membranes. Myo-inositol, also acts as a growth factor and affects the antioxidant capacity and oxidative status of cells. It is a major intracellular osmolyte that can be accumulated to protect cells from a variety of stresses and can also participate in transmembrane signal transfer. Myo-inositol is synthesised by various animal tissues and microorganisms in gut and fulfills the requirement for a few fish species. However, the supply of inositol by exogenous source (the diet) is required in most fish and shrimp for preventing deficiency signs such as inefficiency in digestion and food utilization, poor growth, fin erosion, dark skin colouration, and high accumulation of lipid in liver and muscle.     Prevalence and Antibiotic Susceptibility Pattern of E. coli Isolated from Urinary Tract Infection in Patients with Renal Failure Disease and Renal Transplant Recipients

    Purpose: To determine the common uropathogens found in patients with urinary tract infections and to assess their antibiotic susceptibility patterns.Methods: The prevalence and antibiotic susceptibility pattern of E. coli in urinary tract infection inpatients with renal failure disease and renal transplant recipients (group 1) and in outpatients (group 2), admitted in/attending Imam Reza Hospital in Tabriz, Iran, were determined. Isolates were analyzed by standard methods, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed by Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method.Results: A total of 136 E. coli strains from 81 females and 55 males were examined. The high level of antibiotic susceptibility for group 1 was cefuroxime/ceftazidime (100 %) and nitrofurantoin (81.63 %), respectively; and for group 2, it was ampicillin (95.83 %) and nitrofurantoin (93.75 %), respectively.Conclusion: The most important finding of this study is that a considerable proportion of the studied E. coli isolates are resistant to the antibiotics tested, except nitrofurantoin. This finding is useful for clinicians to determine appropriate empirical antimicrobial treatment in similar cases and would also help health authorities to formulate antibiotic prescription policies.Keywords: Urinary tract infection, Antibiotic susceptibility pattern, Uropathogens, Renal failure, Renal transplant, Escherichia col

    What is unpaid female labour worth? Evidence from the Time Use Studies of Iran in 2008 and 2009

    This paper uses the Time Use Survey of Iran of 2008 and 2009 to estimate the monetary value of unpaid domestic work of urban housewives. The surveys recorded domestic work activities such as cooking and cleaning and general care of household members as well as care of children and their education. Using the market-based approach to estimate the monetary value of unpaid domestic work we collected data on the cost of buying in services for domestic work and for education of children from ‘nursing agencies’ and private education colleges in main cities of Iran in the summer of 2011 that were adjusted to obtain the 2008 and 2009 prices. The market value of domestic work of urban housewives was estimated to be US25billionin2008andUS25 billion in 2008 and US29 billion in 2009. These were about 8.6 per cent of non-oil GDP in the same years. Our estimates complement other findings from around the world that confirm substantial contribution of housewives to the economy. These contributions have gone unrecorded and not compensated in most countries. At a minimum, housewives can be insured against basic contingencies of life such has health problems, poverty and disabilities and supported in old age. Our work and other studies do provide the economic and social arguments for costing and putting into practice the long overdue support for housewives; they have earned it

    Pharmacogenetic Study on the Effect of Rivastigmine on PS2 and APOE Genes in Iranian Alzheimer Patients

    Background/Aims: Alzheimer disease (AD) is a complex and genetically heterogeneous disorder, and certain genes such as PS2 and APOE4 contribute to the development of AD. Due to its heterogeneity, AD-predisposing genes could vary in different populations. Moreover, not all AD patients will respond to the same therapy. We specifically investigated the effect ofrivastigmine (Exelon) on PS2 and APOE genes in Iranian AD patients. Methods: A total of 100 AD patients, 67 patients with sporadic AD (SAD) and 33 patients with familial AD (FAD), receiving rivastigmine therapy and 100 healthy controls were studied.PCR-RFLP was used for genotyping of PS2 and APOE. Results: We found a positive association between the PS2 –A allele and SAD patients (pc = 0.01), and the PS2 +A/–A genotype was significantly more frequent in SAD than FAD patients (pc = 0.009). The APOE4 allele was associated with total AD, SAD and FAD (pc = 0.000002). Patients with the PS2 +A/–A genotype and bigenic genotypes of +A/–A·Ε3/Ε3 and +A/–A·Ε3/Ε4 were the best responders to Exelon therapy, and those with the PS2 +A/+A and APOE Ε3/Ε4 genotypes were the worst responders. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that the PS2 and APOE4 alleles and genotypes affect both AD risk and response to rivastigmine therapy

    Quantum teleportation with nonclassical correlated states in noninertial frames

    Quantum teleportation is studied in noninertial frame, for fermionic case, when Alice and Bob share a general nonclassical correlated state. In noninertial frames two fidelities of teleportation are given. It is found that the average fidelity of teleportation from a separable and nonclassical correlated state is increasing with the amount of nonclassical correlation of the state.
