Finding a More Inclusive Workplace: Engaging Those with Low and High Functioning Autism

    Get PDF
Autism Spectrum Disorder as a diagnosis is becoming more common than in past years. This results in a larger number of individuals attempting to enter the work force but facing challenges in the employment process. Organizations that hold social responsibility to high regards will be motivated to incorporate more ways to be inclusive. This study will examine specific jobs that would pair with lower and higher functioning individuals with ASD, alter the recruiting process to accommodate for a more inclusive environment, and focus on current employees to engage them in the change as well. This initiative will be an education intervention that will involve all employees in order to facilitate a more inclusive, welcoming environment. The current study will survey employees using the following: the employee engagement scale (Schaufeli, Salanova, González-Romá, & Bakker, 2002), job satisfaction scale (Spector, 1997), and levels of turnover intention scale (Allen, 2001). We will take a pre-initiative survey as well as a post-initiative survey to see whether our initiative is related to increases in job satisfaction and engagement in all employees, as well as a decrease in turnover intentions within the company

Frontal brain dysfunction in alcoholism with and without antisocial personality disorder

    Get PDF
Alcoholism and antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) often are comorbid conditions. Alcoholics, as well as nonalcoholic individuals with ASPD, exhibit behaviors associated with prefrontal brain dysfunction such as increased impulsivity and emotional dysregulation. These behaviors can influence drinking motives and patterns of consumption. Because few studies have investigated the combined association between ASPD and alcoholism on neuropsychological functioning, this study examined the influence of ASPD symptoms and alcoholism on tests sensitive to frontal brain deficits. The participants were 345 men and women. Of them, 144 were abstinent alcoholics (66 with ASPD symptoms), and 201 were nonalcoholic control participants (24 with ASPD symptoms). Performances among the groups were examined with Trails A and B tests, the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, the Controlled Oral Word Association Test, the Ruff Figural Fluency Test, and Performance subtests of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale. Measures of affect also were obtained. Multiple regression analyses showed that alcoholism, specific drinking variables (amount and duration of heavy drinking), and ASPD were significant predictors of frontal system and affective abnormalities. These effects were different for men and women. The findings suggested that the combination of alcoholism and ASPD leads to greater deficits than the sum of each

    [?] lifetime measurement in the \u3ci\u3eCP\u3c/i\u3e-odd decay channel [?] → J/ψ f\u3ci\u3e0\u3c/i\u3e(980)

The lifetime of the [?] meson is measured in the decay channel [?] → J/ψπ+π− with 880 ≤ Mπ+π- - ≤ 1080 MeV / c2, which is mainly a CP-odd state and dominated by the f0 (980) resonance. In 10.4 fb-1 of data collected with the D0 detector in Run II of the Tevatron, the lifetime of the [?] meson is measured to be [?] = 1.70 ± 0.14(stat) ± 0.05(syst) ps. Neglecting CP violation in [?]/[?] mixing, the measurement can be translated into the width of the heavy mass eigenstate of the [?], ΓH = 0.59 ± 0.05(stat) ± 0.02(syst) ps-1

Measurement of the top quark mass using the matrix element technique in dilepton final states

    Get PDF
We present a measurement of the top quark mass in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The data were collected by the D0 experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.7 fb−1. The matrix element technique is applied to tt events in the final state containing leptons (electrons or muons) with high transverse momenta and at least two jets. The calibration of the jet energy scale determined in the lepton + jets final state of tt decays is applied to jet energies. This correction provides a substantial reduction in systematic uncertainties. We obtain a top quark mass of mt = 173.93 ± 1.84 GeV

We measure the cross section and the difference in rapidities between photons and charged leptons for inclusive W(→ lv) + y production in ey and µy final states. Using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.2 fb-1 collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, the measured cross section times branching fraction for the process pp̅ → Wy + X → lvy + X and the distribution of the charge-signed photon-lepton rapidity difference are found to be in agreement with the standard model. These results provide the most stringent limits on anomalous WW[1] couplings for data from hadron colliders: -0.4 \u3c ∆ky \u3c 0.4 and -0.08 \u3c λy \u3c 0.07 at the 95% C.L

Measurement of the forward-backward asymmetries in the production of Ξ and Ω baryons in \u3ci\u3epp\u3c/i\u3e collisions

We measure the forward-backward asymmetries AFB of charged Ξ and Ω baryons produced in pp collisions recorded by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider at [?] = 1.96 TeV as a function of the baryon rapidity y. We find that the asymmetries AFB for charged Ξ and Ω baryons are consistent with zero within statistical uncertainties

Measurement of top quark polarization in \u3ci\u3ett\u3c/i\u3e lepton + jets final states

    Get PDF
We present a measurement of top quark polarization in tt pair production in pp collisions at [?] = 1.96 TeV using data corresponding to 9.7 fb−1 of integrated luminosity recorded with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We consider final states containing a lepton and at least three jets. The polarization is measured through the distribution of lepton angles along three axes: the beam axis, the helicity axis, and the transverse axis normal to the tt production plane. This is the first measurement of top quark polarization at the Tevatron using lepton + jet final states and the first measurement of the transverse polarization in tt production. The observed distributions are consistent with standard model predictions of nearly no polarization

Study of double parton interactions in diphoton + dijet events in \u3ci\u3epp\u3c/i\u3e collisions at [?] = 1.96 TeV

    Get PDF
We use a sample of diphoton + dijet events to measure the effective cross section of double parton interactions, which characterizes the area containing the interacting partons in proton-antiproton collisions, and find it to be σeff = 19.3 ± 1.4(stat) ± 7.8(syst) mb. The sample was collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider in pp collisions at [?] = 1.96 TeV and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 8.7 fb-1

Evidence for Simultaneous Production of J/ψ and ϒ Mesons

    Get PDF
We report evidence for the simultaneous production of J/ψ and ϒ mesons in 8.1 fb−1 of data collected at √s = 1.96 TeV by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab p¯p Tevatron Collider. Events with these characteristics are expected to be produced predominantly by gluon-gluon interactions. In this analysis, we extract the effective cross section characterizing the initial parton spatial distribution, σeff = 2.2 ± 0.7(stat) ± 0.9(syst) mb
