Prediction of force coefficients for labyrinth seals
The development of a linear model for the prediction of labyrinth seal forces and on its comparison to available stiffness data is presented. A discussion of the relevance of fluid damping forces and the preliminary stages of a program to obtain data on these forces are examined. Fluid-dynamic forces arising from nonuniform pressure patterns in labyrinth seal glands are known to be potentially destablizing in high power turbomachinery. A well documented case in point is that of the space Shuttle Main Engine turbopumps. Seal forces are also an important factor for the stability of shrouded turbines, acting in that case in conjunction with the effects of blade-tip clearance variations
Momentum modes of M5-branes in a 2d space
We study M5 branes by considering the selfdual strings parallel to a plane.
With the internal oscillation frozen, each selfdual string gives a 5d SYM
field. All selfdual strings together give a 6d field with 5 scalars, 3 gauge
degrees of freedom and 8 fermionic degrees of freedom in adjoint representation
of U(N). Selfdual strings with the same orientation have the SYM-type
interaction. For selfdual strings with the different orientations, which could
also be taken as the unparallel momentum modes of the 6d field on that plane or
the (p,q) (r,s) strings on D3 with (p,q)\neq (r,s), the [i,j]+[j,k]\rightarrow
[i,k] relation is not valid, so the coupling cannot be written in terms of the
standard N \times N matrix multiplication. 3-string junction, which is the
bound state of the unparallel [i,j] [j,k] selfdual strings, may play a role
here.Comment: 37 pages, 5 figures, to appear in JHEP; v2: reference adde
Degenerate Four Virtual Soliton Resonance for KP-II
By using disipative version of the second and the third members of AKNS
hierarchy, a new method to solve 2+1 dimensional Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP-II)
equation is proposed. We show that dissipative solitons (dissipatons) of those
members give rise to the real solitons of KP-II. From the Hirota bilinear form
of the SL(2,R) AKNS flows, we formulate a new bilinear representation for
KP-II, by which, one and two soliton solutions are constructed and the
resonance character of their mutual interactions is studied. By our bilinear
form, we first time created four virtual soliton resonance solution for KP-II
and established relations of it with degenerate four-soliton solution in the
Hirota-Satsuma bilinear form for KP-II.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, Talk on International Conference Nonlinear

DLCQ of Fivebranes, Large N Screening, and L^2 Harmonic Forms on Calabi Manifolds
We find one explicit L^2 harmonic form for every Calabi manifold. Calabi
manifolds are known to arise in low energy dynamics of solitons in Yang-Mills
theories, and the L^2 harmonic form corresponds to the supersymmetric ground
state. As the normalizable ground state of a single U(N) instanton, it is
related to the bound state of a single D0 to multiple coincident D4's in the
non-commutative setting, or equivalently a unit Kaluza-Klein mode in DLCQ of
fivebrane worldvolume theory. As the ground state of nonabelian massless
monopoles realized around a monopole-``anti''-monopole pair, it shows how the
long range force between the pair is screened in a manner reminiscent of large
N behavior of quark-anti-quark potential found in AdS/CFT correspondence.Comment: LaTeX, 23 page
Research Framework for Consumer Satisfaction with Internet Shopping
Consumer satisfaction with Internet shopping has been conceptualized in a variety of ways. Studies in this area remain broad and appear relatively fragmented. In view of this, the purpose of this study is to propose a research framework that integrates both end-user computing satisfaction literature and service quality literature. This framework explicitly considers information quality, system quality, and service quality as the key dimensions of consumer satisfaction with Internet shopping. We believe the research framework and propositions serve as salient guidelines for researchers
SPH Simulations of Galactic Gaseous Disk with Bar: Distribution and Kinematic Structure of Molecular Clouds toward the Galactic Center
We have performed Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamic (SPH) simulations to study
the response of molecular clouds in the Galactic disk to a rotating bar and
their subsequent evolution in the Galactic Center (GC) region. The Galactic
potential in our models is contributed by three axisymmetric components
(massive halo, exponential disk, compact bulge) and a non-axisymmetric bar.
These components are assumed to be invariant in time in the frame corotating
with the bar. Some noticeable features such as an elliptical outer ring, spiral
arms, a gas-depletion region, and a central concentration have been developed
due to the influence of the bar. The rotating bar induces non-circular motions
of the SPH particles, but hydrodynamic collisions tend to suppress the random
components of the velocity. The velocity field of the SPH particles is
consistent with the kinematics of molecular clouds observed in HCN (1-0)
transition; these clouds are thought to be very dense clouds. However, the l-v
diagram of the clouds traced by CO is quite different from that of our SPH
simulation, being more similar to that obtained from simulations using
collisionless particles. The diagram of a mixture of collisional and
collisionless particles gives better reproduction of the kinematic structures
of the GC clouds observed in the CO line. The fact that the kinematics of HCN
clouds can be reproduced by the SPH particles suggests that the dense clouds in
the GC are formed via cloud collisions induced by rotating bar.Comment: 31 pages, 10 pigures, accepted for publication in Ap
Dyons in N=4 Supersymmetric Theories and Three-Pronged Strings
We construct and explore BPS states that preserve 1/4 of supersymmetry in N=4
Yang-Mills theories. Such states are also realized as three-pronged strings
ending on D3-branes. We correct the electric part of the BPS equation and
relate its solutions to the unbroken abelian gauge group generators. Generic
1/4-BPS solitons are not spherically symmetric, but consist of two or more
dyonic components held apart by a delicate balance between static
electromagnetic force and scalar Higgs force. The instability previously found
in three-pronged string configurations is due to excessive repulsion by one of
these static forces. We also present an alternate construction of these 1/4-BPS
states from quantum excitations around a magnetic monopole, and build up the
supermultiplet for arbitrary (quantized) electric charge. The degeneracy and
the highest spin of the supermultiplet increase linearly with a relative
electric charge. We conclude with comments.Comment: 33 pages, two figures, LaTex, a footnote added, the figure caption of

Complete trails of co-authorship network evolution
The rise and fall of a research field is the cumulative outcome of its
intrinsic scientific value and social coordination among scientists. The
structure of the social component is quantifiable by the social network of
researchers linked via co-authorship relations, which can be tracked through
digital records. Here, we use such co-authorship data in theoretical physics
and study their complete evolutionary trail since inception, with a particular
emphasis on the early transient stages. We find that the co-authorship networks
evolve through three common major processes in time: the nucleation of small
isolated components, the formation of a tree-like giant component through
cluster aggregation, and the entanglement of the network by large-scale loops.
The giant component is constantly changing yet robust upon link degradations,
forming the network's dynamic core. The observed patterns are successfully
reproducible through a new network model
Complete Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics of Magnetic Monopoles in N=4 SYM Theory
We find the most general low energy dynamics of 1/2 BPS monopoles in the N=4
supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories (SYM) when all six adjoint Higgs expectation
values are turned on. When only one Higgs is turned on, the Lagrangian is
purely kinetic. When all six are turned on, however, this moduli space dynamics
is augmented by five independent potential terms, each in the form of half the
squared norm of a Killing vector field on the moduli space. A generic
stationary configuration of the monopoles can be interpreted as stable non BPS
dyons, previously found as non-planar string webs connecting D3-branes. The
supersymmetric extension is also found explicitly, and gives the complete
quantum mechanics of monopoles in N=4 SYM theory. We explore its supersymmetry
algebra.Comment: Errors in the SUSY algebra corrected. The version to appear in PR
