    A Multi-Objective HBMO-Based New FC-MCR Compensator for Damping of Power System Oscillations

    In this paper, a novel compensator based on Magnetically Controlled Reactor with Fixed Capacitor banks (FC-MCR) is introduced and then power system stability in presence of this compensator is studied using an intelligent control method. The problem of robust FC-MCR-based damping controller design is formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem. The multi-objective problem is concocted to optimize a composite set of two eigenvalue-based objective functions comprising the desired damping factor, and the desired damping ratio of the lightly damped and undamped electromechanical modes. The controller is automatically tuned by optimization of an eigenvalue-based multi-objective function using Honey Bee Mating Optimization (HBMO) to simultaneously shift the lightly damped and undamped electromechanical modes to a prescribed zone in the s-plane so that the relative stability is guaranteed and the time domain specifications concurrently secured. The effectiveness of the proposed controller in damping low frequency oscillations under different operating conditions is demonstrated through eigenvalue analysis and nonlinear time simulation studies. The results show that the tuned HBMO-based FC-MCR controller which is designed by using the proposed multi-objective function has an outstanding capability in damping power system low frequency oscillations and significantly improves the power systems dynamic stability

    Investigating effective factors on estimated hemorrhage intraoperative in brain meningioma surgery

    Introduction: The primary and definitive diagnosis of meningioma is based on histological assessment; however, employing imaging methods, like Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is very helpful to describe lesion's characteristics. Accordingly, we decided to study the effect of imaging factors, like MRI data on the volume of hemorrhage (estimated blood loss) during meningioma surgery. Methods: This was a cross-sectional, retrospective, and analytical study. The eligible patients were those with meningioma who were candidates for surgery. A total of 40 patients with meningioma were selected and assessed. The preoperative imaging findings were recorded, then estimated blood loss during the surgery was determined Results: A reverse association was revealed between the degree of proximity to the nearest sinus and the rate of bleeding. Furthermore, the size of the mass was positively associated with the rate of bleeding; however, there was no significant correlation between the volume of bleeding and other parameters, including the degree of edema, the volume of mass, the site of the tumor in the brain, and the histological subtype of the tumor. The mean time of operation was strongly correlated with blood loss. The rate of bleeding was more expected in hypertensive versus normotensive patients. Conclusion: Bleeding in various volumes could be a frequent finding in intracranial meningioma surgery. Overall, tumor size, the duration of surgery, a history of hypertension, and distance to the nearest sinuses were the main determinants for the severity of hemorrhage in patients undergoing meningioma surgery. © 2020 Iran University of Medical Sciences.     Synthesis and characterization of a novel organic nitrate NDHP: Role of xanthine oxidoreductase-mediated nitric oxide formation

    In this report, we describe the synthesis and characterization of 1,3-bis(hexyloxy)propan-2-yl nitrate (NDHP), a novel organic mono nitrate. Using purified xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR), chemiluminescence and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, we found that XOR catalyzes nitric oxide (NO) generation from NDHP under anaerobic conditions, and that thiols are not involved or required in this process. Further mechanistic studies revealed that NDHP could be reduced to NO at both the FAD and the molybdenum sites of XOR, but that the FAD site required an unoccupied molybdenum site. Conversely, the molybdenum site was able to reduce NDHP independently of an active FAD site. Moreover, using isolated vessels in a myograph, we demonstrate that NDHP dilates pre-constricted mesenteric arteries from rats and mice. These effects were diminished when XOR was blocked using the selective inhibitor febuxostat. Finally, we demonstrate that NDHP, in contrast to glyceryl trinitrate (GTN), is not subject to development of tolerance in isolated mesenteric arteries.</p

    Prediction of Bitumen Molecular Weight Distribution Using Rheological Property

    Abstract: There are some problems to find heavy hydrocarbon characteristic such as lake of method or techniques and the special hydrocarbon property. Therefore, it is important to obtain the relation to find heavy hydrocarbon characteristic analytically or by experiment. These relations help us to predict special property in different range or area. In this study tried to predict the bitumen&apos;s molecular weight distribution by using its rheological property. This function obtained from the definition of complex modulus and phase angle for polymeric mixtures and investigated by zero relaxation time as rheological property. The result indicate that molecular weight distribution is sharp in low zero relaxation time and it&apos;s so wide in high zero relaxation time and this means that the molecular weight of bitumen&apos;s mixture increase by increasing the zero relaxation time and the distribution of molecular weight be wider

    Understanding epidemic data and statistics: A case study of COVID-19

    The 2019 novel-coronavirus (COVID-19) has affected 181 countries with approximately 1197405 confirmed cases (by 5th April). Understanding the transmission dynamics of the infection in each country which got affected on a daily basis and evaluating the effectiveness of control policies are critical for our further actions. To date, the statistics of COVID-19 reported cases show that more than 80 of infected are mild cases of disease, around 14 of infected have severe complications, and about 5 are categorized as critical disease victims. Today's report (5th April 2020; daily updates in the prepared website) shows that the confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United States, Spain, Italy, and Germany are 308850, 126168, 124632, and 96092, respectively. Calculating the total case fatality rate (CFR) of Italy (4th April 2020), about 13.3 of confirmed cases have passed away. Compared with South Korea's rate of 1.8 (seven times lower than Italy) and China's 4 (69 lower than Italy), the CFR of Italy is too high. Some effective policies that yielded significant changes in the trend of cases were the lockdown policy in China, Italy, and Spain (the effect observed after some days), the shutdown of all nonessential companies in Hubei (the effect observed after 5 days), combined policy in South Korea, and reducing working hours in Iran. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc

    Numerous proteins with unique characteristics are degraded by the 26S proteasome following monoubiquitination

    The "canonical" proteasomal degradation signal is a substrate-anchored polyubiquitin chain. However, a handful of proteins were shown to be targeted following monoubiquitination. In this study, we established-in both human and yeast cells-a systematic approach for the identification of monoubiquitination-dependent proteasomal substrates. The cellular wild-type polymerizable ubiquitin was replaced with ubiquitin that cannot form chains. Using proteomic analysis, we screened for substrates that are nevertheless degraded under these conditions compared with those that are stabilized, and therefore require polyubiquitination for their degradation. For randomly sampled representative substrates, we confirmed that their cellular stability is in agreement with our screening prediction. Importantly, the two groups display unique features: monoubiquitinated substrates are smaller than the polyubiquitinated ones, are enriched in specific pathways, and, in humans, are structurally less disordered. We suggest that monoubiquitination-dependent degradation is more widespread than assumed previously, and plays key roles in various cellular processes

    Tracing scientist's research trends realtimely

    In this research, we propose a method to trace scientists' research trends realtimely. By monitoring the downloads of scientific articles in the journal of Scientometrics for 744 hours, namely one month, we investigate the download statistics. Then we aggregate the keywords in these downloaded research papers, and analyze the trends of article downloading and keyword downloading. Furthermore, taking both the download of keywords and articles into consideration, we design a method to detect the emerging research trends. We find that in scientometrics field, social media, new indices to quantify scientific productivity (g-index), webometrics, semantic, text mining, open access are emerging fields that scientometrics researchers are focusing on.Comment: 13 pages, 7 figure

    Validation of the Ottawa Ankle Rules in Iran: A prospective survey

    BACKGROUND: Acute ankle injuries are one of the most common reasons for presenting to emergency departments, but only a small percentage of patients – approximately 15% – have clinically significant fractures. However, these patients are almost always referred for radiography. The Ottawa Ankle Rules (OARs) have been designed to reduce the number of unnecessary radiographs ordered for these patients. The objective of this study was to validate the OARs in the Iranian population. METHODS: This prospective survey was done among 200 patients with acute ankle injury from January 2004 to April 2004 in the Akhtar Orthopedics Hospital Emergency Department. Main outcome measures of this survey were: sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and likelihood ratios (positive and negative) of the OARs. RESULTS: Sensitivity of the OARs for detecting 37 ankle fractures (23 in the malleolar zone and 14 in the midfoot zone) was 100% for each of the two zones, and 100% for both zones. Specificity of the OARs for detecting fractures was 40.50% for both zones, 40.50% for the malleolar zone, and 56.00% for the midfoot zone. Implementation of the OARs had the potential for reducing radiographs by 33%. CONCLUSION: OARs are very accurate and highly sensitive tools for detecting ankle fractures. Implementation of these rules would lead to significant reduction in the number of radiographs, costs, radiation exposure and waiting times in emergency departments
