    Multifunctional P-Doped TiO 2

    Multifunctional P-doped TiO2 thin films were synthesized by atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition (APCVD). This is the first example of P-doped TiO2 films with both P5+ and P3– states, with the relative proportion being determined by synthesis conditions. This technique to control the oxidation state of the impurities presents a new approach to achieve films with both self-cleaning and TCO properties. The origin of electrical conductivity in these materials was correlated to the incorporation of P5+ species, as suggested by Hall Effect probe measurements. The photocatalytic performance of the films was investigated using the model organic pollutant, stearic acid, with films containing predominately P3– states found to be vastly inferior photocatalysts compared to undoped TiO2 films. Transient absorption spectroscopy studies also showed that charge carrier concentrations increased by several orders of magnitude in films containing P5+ species only, whereas photogenerated carrier lifetimes—and thus photocatalytic activity—were severely reduced upon incorporation of P3– species. The results presented here provide important insights on the influence of dopant nature and location within a semiconductor structure.     Glass has always played a crucial role in directing the investigation of natural phenomena onto revolutionary and innovative paths. Since antiquity philosophers of nature perceived the peculiar quality of this material and their increasing attention to the extraordinarily rich and varied productions made by craftsmen after the introduction of glassblowing techniques reveal the special status glass had in the economy and culture of the Roman Empire. Because of its chemical nature, large scale production of glass was a difficult technological process which required, in addition to dexterity, a broad knowledge of different operations and devices. The fusion of glass requires high temperatures that can only be obtained with the construction of special furnaces and crucibles, combined with the accurate use of salts, namely soda and potash, which enables to decrease the degree of glass\u2019 fusion

    Consensus Approach to a Treat-to-target Strategy in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis Care: Report From the 2020 PR-COIN Consensus Conference.

    OBJECTIVE: Treat to target (T2T) is a strategy of adjusting treatment until a target is reached. An international task force recommended T2T for juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) treatment. Implementing T2T in a standard and reliable way in clinical practice requires agreement on critical elements of (1) target setting, (2) T2T strategy, (3) identifying barriers to implementation, and (4) patient eligibility. A consensus conference was held among Pediatric Rheumatology Care and Outcomes Improvement Network (PR-COIN) stakeholders to inform a statement of understanding regarding the PR-COIN approach to T2T. METHODS: PR-COIN stakeholders including 16 healthcare providers and 4 parents were invited to form a voting panel. Using the nominal group technique, 2 rounds of voting were held to address the above 4 areas to select the top 10 responses by rank order. RESULTS: Incorporation of patient goals ranked most important when setting a treatment target. Shared decision making (SDM), tracking measurable outcomes, and adjusting treatment to achieve goals were voted as the top elements of a T2T strategy. Workflow considerations, and provider buy-in were identified as key barriers to T2T implementation. Patients with JIA who had poor prognostic factors and were at risk for high disease burden were leading candidates for a T2T approach. CONCLUSION: This consensus conference identified the importance of incorporating patient goals as part of target setting and of the influence of patient stakeholder involvement in drafting treatment recommendations. The network approach to T2T will be modified to address the above findings, including solicitation of patient goals, optimizing SDM, and better workflow integration

    Current Trends and Future Directions in Data Curation Research and Education

    Digital research data have introduced a new set of collection, preservation, and service demands into the tradition of digital librarianship. Consequently, the role of an information professional has evolved to include the activities of data curation. This new field more specifically addresses the needs of stewarding and preserving digital research data. In this paper, we offer an overview of data curation research and education in the field of library and information science (LIS), focusing specifically on the current state of professional practice, trends in education and workforce development, and future directions for both basic and applied research. Drawing on the proceedings from two data curation summits held in late 2010, we highlight and build on the major insights and recommendations that emerged from discussions among more than 50 leading experts from government agencies, data centers, the field of LIS, and the publishing industry. Specifically, we note the importance of developing interoperable standards for describing datasets, the need for curators to participate in data privacy and ownership policy development, the increasing demand for a workforce to support discipline-specific data practices, and, finally, the varied approaches for professional education that will be required by a data-driven research agenda in both the sciences and humanities. We conclude with an overview of future directions for research and workforce development in data curation.published or submitted for publicationis peer reviewe
