Prayer, personality and happiness: a study among undergraduate students in Wales

    Get PDF
In order to examine the association between prayer and happiness, a sample of 131 undergraduate students attending a university in Wales completed three measures: the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire, the abbreviated Eysenck Personality Questionnaire Revised, and prayer frequency assessed on a 5-point scale. The data demonstrated a significant positive correlation between prayer frequency and happiness before controlling for individual differences in personality. After controlling for personality, however, this apparent association vanished

The teenage religion and values survey in England and Wales : an overview

    Get PDF
The Teenage Religion and Values Survey was conducted throughout the 1990s among young people between the ages of 13 and 15 years. A total of 33,982 young people took part in the survey. As the next phase of this research begins for the twenty-first century this paper looks back at the survey conducted in the 1990s and considers two aspects of the research. First, this paper considers the methodology behind designing such a survey. Second, this paper considers some of the insights generated by the survey under five headings: personality, spiritual health, religious affiliation, belonging without believing, and church leaving

Antenna tracking mechanism for geostationary satellites

    Get PDF
The design and development of a continuous duty cycle antenna tracking mechanism (ATM) for geostationary communications satellites is described. The FACC requirements for an ATM and description of the development mechanism designed and built for the program are presented. The mechanism mechanical configuration and component performance is documented along with its launch and operational constraints. The proposed development tests and the results of computer simulations are discussed. The advantages of this mechanism are its simplicity with inherent reliability, low mass, high stiffness, and ability to accurately point a wide range of antenna sizes

An Integrative Neurological Model for Basic Observable Human Behavior

    Get PDF
The scientific method uncovers information from the natural world in small increments. This spurs the design of models to explain how the pieces fit together and to identify future targets of research. This is especially the case in psychology, where visualizing concepts is an advantageous practice. One all too common criticism of cognitive and behavioral models in psychology is the lack of a biological basis. This paper aims to alleviate part of this issue by integrating currently understood biological and neurological mechanisms that drive psychological phenomena into a predictive and descriptive model for basic human behavior. To accomplish this task, this paper explores numerous scientific reviews and studies regarding sensory perception, emotion, learning, and memory. This paper also features original research about decision making. Creating this model is a necessary first step for targeting possible future research and clinical practices related to human behavior
